The mayor dude asked us to retrieve some incriminating evidence from the judge about his liaisons with a certain male member of the city's population. This involved us sneaking into his house, which was full of guards, to locate and retrieve the item covertly. Peter did his hardest to encourage us to come up with a sensible plan, but... well... it's us.
There was one guard (a mercenary) between the back door and the bedrooms, so Glen burst in, yelled "Holy shit, come take a look at this," and then ran away. I rolled sufficiently well on my fast talk that the sell sword did indeed follow me, out the back door and down a short path to where Makky and Rhone were pretending to have a fight. The sell sword was all "This is what you wanted to show me? Who the hell are you anyway?", so Glen punched him in the face, Makky tried to wrestle him to the ground, and Rhone did a fantastic job of repeatedly failing to hit him in any kind of meaningful way. While we were scuffling, Saidra was able to sneak into the house... but she nearly cocked it all up by critical stepping on a creaky floorboard. She retreated to one of the bedrooms when the judge came out of his office to look around, found what we were looking for, and successfully hid under the bed while the judge tried to find the source of the noise, gave up, and went away. She snuck back outside and to safety... at which point the rest of us tried to retreat. Rhone succeeded in bravely running away, but both Glen and Makky fell flat on their faces, and the sell sword got his sword out, stabbed Makky a bit, and we had a bit more of a scuffle before we too succeeded in running away.
In the meantime, Kurth managed to use his awesome legal skills and the favour we'd earned from the Mayor of Flowers to get Scarface and Prettyboy out of jail... and now I think we're off to try and find the magical forest with the fairies in.
And that's what you missed on Glee.

The session was mostly uneventful...
Edit:
I did a blog (http://theholo.net/forum/blog.php?7496-Adventures-of-Aventuria) to recap Sunday's session. It's surprisingly tricky trying to recap the stuff we get up to in less than 10,000 characters. :uhoh
We did get a lot of meaty plot exposition though, so maybe it'll be easier when it's a week that's mostly a battle.
I'm also putting a "dark banana" tag on all of the threads and blog posts - you can bookmark the search page for that tag, which makes it super-easy to find all the previous threads with XP numbers/etc in them.

Jul 30th, 2013, 08:15:42 PM
My idiot brother asked me to help him find some names for horses. In order to give me some ideas, he mounted a bannister and yelled "ride like the wind!", before drunkenly miming horse riding for a good five minutes. He then dismounted, drank more, got into a bar fight, and was beaten up by a girl again. Good times.
At any rate, I thought those of you capable of reading might appreciate the fruits of my research more than he. Before I begin however, there are a few categories of winds in Aventuria that you should be aware of.
The Twelve Winds (of which there are thirteen, naturally) are a collection of winds revered by you southern folk, because you're pretty obsessed with the whole number twelve thing. These wind-gods are regarded by you as emissaries or heralds for Efferd, whereas in Thorwal we consider these to be demigods in their own right. The twelve then split down into two groups: there are the winds of the Sea of Seven Winds, of which there are seven, though there's a little disagreement over which seven winds are the seven winds; and then there are the winds from the Sea of Pearls. For those of you who are geographically challenged, the Sea of Seven Winds is the ocean off the west coast, near Thorwal and Albernia; the Sea of Pearls is off the east coast, by the Bornlands, Tulamidistan, Khom, and so on. There are also a few extra winds that the southerners don't really care about.
The Twelve Winds
Beleman is probably the most famous wind. It blows in from the Sea of Seven Winds pretty much right in the middle of the continent, blowing across Albernia and through to Almada in the centre of the continent. It's steady. It's reliable. If you're shockingly bad at horse riding (and from what Glen tells me, quite a few of you are), you're probably looking for a horse that suits this name.
Rondrikan is the polar opposite of Beleman. She blows in off the Sea of Seven Winds from the northwest, across Thorwal and Orkland, and is wild and unpredictable. She is considered to be a messenger of Rondra as well as of Efferd down south; in Thorwal, we just think of her as "the mother of all storms". If you're out on a ship and Rhondrikan wakes up, then basically you are royally screwed. One of my family's ships was hit by Rondrikan before I was even born; my brother Sven was knocked overboard, and would have died at sea were it not for a little sperm whale intervention. He's now a grown man, but he still pees himself a little whenever the wind starts gusting from that direction.
Nuianna is what we from Thorwal call the Fogbearer, for reasons that you can probably guess unless your cleverness rivals that of my brother. She starts a little further north than Rondrikan, but they blow in roughly the same direction. These two are like sisters, and when they start squabbling, the Sea of Seven Winds is not a pleasant place to be at all. Fortunately, Nuianna is usually content just playing a coastal game of peekaboo with Thorwal during winter nights. I heard a story once about the steppe elves, and how even they have some reverence for Nuianna left over from antiquity.
The Ascanian Breeze is what you southerners call it. In Thorwal we call her Askanje (and remember, our language is strange so that "je" is a "yay"), but I've heard that she's also known as Caranthu abroad. The southerners think of her as being one of the Seven Winds, but we in Thorwal have different ideas about that. She actually blows away from Aventuria, and blows stronger and steadier the further away you get. If you're feeling poetic, you could almost describe it as the wind of adventure, blowing off into the unknown. If you're a sailor from Thorwal though, you'd probably just describe her as a stupid bloody wind blowing in the wrong bloody direction.
Harunka is a wind intimately familiar to those from the Middle Realm. Back in Bosporan days he was worshiped as Baltirus, and in some regions they still call him Baltrir. Nowadays though, Harunka is considered to be one of Beleman's less gentle siblings, blowing in from the Sea of Seven Winds between Thorwal and Albernia, gusting through to the very heart of Aventuria. When she meets the hot breezes spilling out from Khom, things get interesting. And by interesting I mean "stormy".
Katla or Lakauta, based on geography and preference, is a real bitch of a storm. She rarely makes it past the coasts of Thorwal and Albernia, but she absolutely should not be underestimated. Her favourite game is whipping up huge tidal waves of water and slamming them against our ocean defenses. One time, she became so playful that one of our village cows ended up in a tree. That was pretty awesome, but the clean-up? Not so much.
Firunsatem is an icy but steady wind from the frozen north, which blows down through the Bornlands and over the Dragonstone Mountains. Based on the letters that Mister Banhammer has been writing to me on my brother's behalf, it sounds like you've had Firunsatem to your back for some time, which is ironic: not only do the Nivise worship her as Flyrijas, but in Thorwal we revere her as Frenjara, a full-blown demigoddess of curiosity and wisdom. With all the secrets you are currently seeking to uncover, it seems only fitting that Frenjara has been pushing you along these past weeks.
Kauka is a whirlwind. The good news is that she hangs out down south on the Sea of Pearls, around the Forest Islands and Golden Bay: a long, long way from anywhere you've been. The bad news is that if you're circumnavigating Aventura, odds are that she'll spring up in your face at some point. You might get lucky: ten months out of twelve, she's pretty calm and subdued. If you find yourself in her back garden during the months of Praios or Rondra however, it might be worth investing in monsoon-proof clothes.
Siral is a gentle breeze from the Sea of Pearls, who swoops across the swamplands south of Khom, picks up as much rain and moisture as she can, and then dumps it on the Empire of the South. Normally I wouldn't wish rain on anyone, especially oily swamp rain... but those Alanfanishen bastards are the ones whose Black Armada crippled my dad and kidnapped Ben, so by all means Siral: rain the fuck out of them.
Gebelaus is an unpredictable wind, blowing southwest across the Pearl Sea, into the Bornlands and Tobrien. You may not have seen much of her yet, but if you're going to be hanging out in Tobrien for much longer, she'll probably start making your lives wet and miserable pretty soon. (Wet and miserable, sounds like Jesima on her wedding night after Glen stood her up, am I right? Heyo!)
The Dragon's Breath was clearly named by someone with an abundance of imagination and literary skill. They call it that because it blows in from the northeast and across the Bronze Sword - picking up a little volcanic ash along the way - and then brings that smoky air to the kingdom of Gloriana, before getting steered southwards through all those Bornland mountains and down to the Dragonstones. So, next time Kurth breaks wind in front of nobility, if it's in the Bornlands or Tobrien you can always blame it on a whiff of brimstone on the Dragon's Breath. The Tobrische Breeze is a wind you'll be intimately familiar with. She blows into the Sea of Pearls from the northeast, bringing all that cold air with her. It might jog your memory to know that the elves call it Taubriawinya, the "breath from the cursed land". The Tobrische Breeze is that bone-chilling wind that molested you every night you spent searching for the Skytower; seems that when the elves refer to an area as the "cursed land", they're not exaggerating.
If you're from down south, and you (rightly) don't think that Askanje counts as one of the twelve winds, then you probably think of Rastullah's Breath - or Raschtul's Breath depending on religion and geography - as being the logical alternative. It's a hot and dusty wind that blows out of the desert, across Tulamidistan, and into the Sea of Pearls. According to a merchant I once spoke to, who got really into explaining the backstory of a little oil lamp he was trying to flog to me, Rastullah's Breath can really screw with your magic carpet. I don't have any experience with that personally, but I do have experience with my breath screwing with Raschtul's magic carpet, if you know what I'm saying...
Winds that are not the Twelve Winds
Augrimmer is a cool wind from the north, and by that I mean that it's cold. That said, it's arguably cool in the other sense as well, particularly if you use one of it's alternative names. The elves sometimes call it Biundtar sounds more like a name for a donkey, and isn't all that great; but Auenzürner? Come on, that's a pretty fantastic horse name. It's got little dots over the u and everything.
As far as Thorwal is concerned, Doldrum is the twelfth Twelve Winds candidate. Except it's not really a wind: it's more an absence of wind. The Activia of wind deities, as it were. Because in Thorwal we revere the winds as minor gods, it kind of makes sense that we'd worship a deity of not-wind as well. It's someone we can pray to when Rondrikan is kicking our asses; or someone we can grumble about when the wind dies down and we have to row instead.
If you have an evil horse, or just want to spook out people who worship the Twelve Gods, then Nagrach's Touch might be the horse name for you. Nagrach, who you might be more familiar with as Belshirash, is the cold and relentless adversary of Firun. Thus, as you can probably guess, Nagrach's Touch is the cold and relentless adversary of warmth, and of anyone who doesn't enjoy having goosebumps and really teeny-tiny nipples.
While Ghibli sounds like it should be a pet name for your genitals, it is in fact the name of one hell of a dust storm in Khom. That said, given the state of Glen's genitals it kinda look like they've been hit by a dust storm from Khom, amirite?
Khomra is a hurricane, and one might think from the name that it has something to do with Khom. Except that's a stupid thing to think, because everyone knows that hurricanes don't form over deserts: they form out of sea. Even Glen knows that, for Svafnir's sake, and he's a sodding moron. It's probably just some etymology hiccup, and it's named after some deity with a big swirling eye or something like that. I don't know. I don't care. Stop asking questions, damn it.
