Oliver Queen

I dunno about anyone else, but with some of my DC characters my brain is shouting: "Oh hey, it would be really cool if someone played <blank>". On the off-chance that other people are thinking about playing those characters, or are looking for inspiration, I figured hey, why not stick it in a thread?

Carrie Cutter (Cupid)

Originally, Carrie Cutter (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Carrie_Cutter_%28New_Earth%29) was a pretty badass government agent, but at some point she went a bit wacko and became obsessed with Green Arrow. She became something of a copycat, but instead of just apprehending criminals she ended up killing them, and the police thought Ollie was responsible. When it became obvious that Green Arrow didn't return her affections, she pretty much became a woman scorned.

For our continuity, it might be interesting to put a different spin on the character, and have her begin as a DEO agent who is in Gotham to capture / unmask Green Arrow. Perhaps she fails, and the obsession slowly starts to take over; she loses her job, but refuses to give up on bringing Arrow down, siding with ever worsening criminals (or with shady groups like Checkmate) as a sort of ends justify the means thing.

There are a lot of archery-themed enemies for Green Arrow: Cupid is one of the most interesting.

Tommy Ludlow

My idea for Tommy Ludlow is sort of an amalgam / mash-up of several characters and roles: I can go into greater detail on the specifics if anyone is interested.

My spin is that Tommy Ludlow is the son of Thomas Ludlow Hallaway: a criminal who created the vigilante alias The Spider in order to take out his competition, and was so convincing that heroes from the golden age believed he was the real deal and recruited him. The Spider - an archery-themed villain - could potentially have been a partner / sidekick for the golden age Green Arrow. Both in the comics and in our version, this faux vigilante would ultimately betray his heroic allies: potentially causing or contributing to the event that caused several of our golden age characters (including Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Hawkwoman) to die.

Tommy Ludlow would be The Spider's son. He is aware of his father's crimes, and has a certain amount of family guilt over it. With his father in prison, Tommy would have gone to boarding school: being from a moderately wealthy family, he managed to go to the same school that Bruce Wayne and Oliver Queen attended. Currently, he owns a nightclub in a slightly rough part of Gotham; and due to events that I haven't cooked up yet, he knows that Oliver Queen is Green Arrow.

The specifics of his association with Green Arrow are entirely open to interpretation. Perhaps he has a web of shady contacts, which he uses to get Oliver information, forged documents, and so on. Perhaps he's "Arsenal", and helps Green Arrow acquire gear and equipment in an off the books / under the table sort of way. Perhaps he'll be a vigilante himself one day. Perhaps he occasionally wears the costume to act as a decoy, or to allow Oliver to do something extremely public and give himself an alibi. Perhaps he's agreed to go "under cover" for Ollie to gather information, as a way of making amends for his father's actions. Perhaps he is secretly working for Checkmate, and Oliver has absolutely no clue.

There's also scope to include Lucas Ludlow, a somewhat more villainous elder brother. Someone playing Tommy might also want to play The Spider in flashbacks and what not: they're likely to play a fairly pivotal role in a whole bunch of people's backstories.

Slade Wilson (Deathstroke)

Formerly in the United States Army, Deathstroke the Terminator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deathstroke) is one of the most badass villains in DC. He's so badass in fact that they cast Michael Hogan to play him on TV. He's potentially the James Bond or Jack Bauer of Checkmate: not only is he it's senior field agent, he's also pretty much allowed to get away with anything. He could be acting alone; he could be secretly tied to other supervillain goings on; he could be leading a team (at one point he led the Teen Titans).

Maxwell Lord

A spy with mind control powers, Maxwell Lord (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxwell_Lord) has worked with Checkmate in the past, but he also founded one of the incarnations of the Justice League. He once shot Blue Beetle in the head, and then had his neck broken by Wonder Woman live on TV; he managed to get better though, and managed to erase everyone's memories of him using his powers. He's got ties to the Illuminati - a group that Vandal Savage leads - and potentially has some cybernetic upgrades, too. He also seems to wear black turtlenecks a lot. He's Stirling Archer, with a built-in memory-wipe thing from Men in Black.

Boomerang

Checkmate employs both solo agents and teams. "Squad Six" is a mash-up of the Secret Six (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Six_%28comics%29) and the Suicide Squad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_Squad): they use a mixture of convicted villains, convicted vigilantes, members of the military, and government agents, on ultra-secret high-risk missions for the US government. They fight terrorists and foreign super-teams mostly, both in the US and abroad. We have a solid core team of Boomerang, Nightshade, and Deadshot, but it would be good to get some more people involved so we can broaden the skill set, mix and match in case people aren't available for threads at particular times, etc. Plus, you know... more people is awesome.

Bane

Bane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bane_%28comics%29) is from Santa Prisca, an island being infiltrated by the team in their first thread (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23094). Bane is the son of King Snake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Snake), who is going to be a prominent member of the snake-themed terrorist group Kobra (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Kobra_Cult). Bane is an incredibly smart character: unlike the Nolan films, the comics have him working out Batman's identity through sheer smarts and detective work. He's a major and frequent part of both the Suicide Squad and the Secret Six. Venom, the steroid/drug that gives him his super strength, is going to be a recurring plot device for the Squad.

Bronze Tiger

Bronze Tiger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronze_Tiger) was a member of the League of Assassins: he's possibly part of the group of animal-themed assassin kids that includes Cassandra Cain, Roy Harper, Cheshire, and Shado. Bronze Tiger is one of the few characters who has managed to beat Batman in hand-to-hand combat. Since most of our characters thus far are ranged, a decent melee person would be a huge boon. It's possible that he is still an active member of the League of Assassins, and that Checkmate is paying the League for his services. It's also possible that he has left the LOA, and works for Checkmate full time.

Catman

Catman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catman_%28comics%29) was a big game hunter who got bored and became a thief, borrowing Catwoman's motif so she'll be implicated in his crimes. He's not a particularly nice guy, but after a string of relatively humiliating defeats he winds up joining the Secret Six to prove himself, and becomes something of an anti-hero... though an anti-hero who thinks that regular heroes are kind of up themselves. He'd be a great tracker/scout character, and is a potential alternative leader if needs be.

Plastique

Plastique (http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Bette_Sans_Souci_%28New_Earth%29) is Canadian, and can make anything she touches explode. It's a controlled explosion; and as one might expect, she's also good at using explosives too. It wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility to make her more than just destructive: it wouldn't be a stretch to make her good at disarming bombs, bypassing locks, hot-wiring cars, and useful things like that. She's one of the major members of the Suicide Squad, and is in just about every incarnation.

Barbara Nolan

I, ah, sort of need a male character to take the place of Rick Grayson in my Virtually, Reality thread and in her life. If possible I'd like to just pick up where they are and not bother about explanation as to where Rick went or who the new person is.

New guy should, if possible, have the same previous interaction with Barbara as Rick did - used to be in the GCPD, knew Barbara when she was 17, he left for a few years and came back to find her 21 and their initial attraction (or at least hers from when she was 17) is still there. He is working in some sort of law enforcement capacity. So, sort of a retcon, replacing Rick with the new person.

Sylvester Pemberton

Courtney Whitmore

Courtney is the stepdaughter of Patrick Dugan: the adult sidekick of Sylvester Pemberton back in the Golden Age, when he was the Star-Spangled Kid. (Think "Bucky's Stepdaughter", and you're on the right lines) In the comics she usually becomes Stargirl, and is Pemberton's protégé. She's usually depicted as being young and enthusiastic, who grew up hearing war stories about the good old days, and has that sort of gung-ho spirit.

Sylvester Pemberton is a Senator, and I've name-dropped Courtney as being his assistant. I don't have any specific plans for her (yet) but there's a lot of scope, and it'd be really useful to have someone around to be the Mercy Graves to the Senator's Lex Luthor.
