Sir Patrick Moore, astronomer and broadcaster, dies aged 89 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20657939)

"I’m near the end of my life now. It doesn’t worry me. I don’t think it ends here, you see. If it did, the entire thing would be pointless, but the universe is not pointless. No, this isn’t the end. We go on to the next stage. I shall be interested to see what it is."

"Who knows? It might be somewhere I can learn to bat decently."

I don't know if Patrick Moore has much of a reputation outside the United Kingdom, but over here he is something of a legend. He is the most stereotypically British astronomer you could possibly imagine... he's basically the space version of David Attenborough.

Whether it's hanging out with Brian May in his back garden watching eclipses, or yelling at hippies and astrologers about their stupid planetary alignment / Mayan calendar / etc theories, he's been a fixture of the science-on-TV for... well, for my parent's whole life, not just mine. If it weren't for people like Patrick Moore, I wouldn't have the same fascination with space that I do, and the world is most certainly a worse place for his absence from it.

Hope the batting is good wherever you've ended up, Patrick.
