This is the next best thing to a Halo movie and it is really good and requires no knowledge of Halo at all.

This might be intresting for you even if you are not a real Halo Fan or not even slightly familiar with the lore. This show just looks badass and has got a really good narrative that speaks for itself.

Watched all three eps so far and been seriously impessed.

Hope that this ends up getting the whole "webseries to tv/movie" treatment, though would personally rather see a tv series than a movie, but that's for the selfish reason that you get more than just a 2 hour dose at once.

My only concern at this point is the CGI quality of Covenant. Guess we'll see. Hoping that the fact that this was essentially made by the game designers will mean that they didn't cheap out on the CGI and that they are actually believable.

I've watched these again. I've only ever played a bit of Halo 2 co-op, and some of ODST while staying at various friends' houses, and what impresses me most of all I think is that this is a damned good webseries, regardless of the fact that it's Halo. The characters are interesting and compelling, and so is the world that they live in... and while I have enough knowledge to think "Warthog :eee", you don't need to know what's going on in order to enjoy it.

It's managing to capture the same vibe as Starship Troopers without stealing too heavily from it... and it's serving as a pretty good introduction to the games. It makes me want to buy and play them (if only it were available on PC :(). I would absolutely love to see a show like this picked up: it's in the same vein of cool, "gritty" scifi as Battlestar, but it's something pretty fresh and new that audiences haven't seen to death yet.

The first two Halo Games (Halo 1 and 2) are available to play on PC.

I'm aware of that, but nothing after that point is. If I bought 1 and 2 and found I really enjoyed them, I would need to pay out for a console to continue the story experience. Considering how hooked I got with Mass Effect, there's a real danger of that happening again: I don't have the money to buy the games themselves right now, let alone fork out for the xbox.

Also, I enjoyed what I played of ODST much more than what I played of Halo 2: I really enjoyed the way the narrative worked in that, so I think that would probably make a better entry into the franchise for me personally.

I'm a huge Halo nerd so this series is great. It's especially great for anyone who has read the accompanying books. Well, the good ones that is. The Fall of Reach and First Strike (both written by Erik Nylund(great Scifi writer)) are amazing reads and this series borrows heavily from the training camps and regiments described in those books. Even nails the UNSC's obsession with Rome.

I'm pretty psyched for the upcoming game. That's not something I've been able to say about a Halo game in awhile :)

Ohmygodthatwassoawesome!!! :eee

I don't think I've ever seen a scifi gunfight as good as that. The alien (Covenant? Am I remembering that right?) weapons fire was strangely beautiful, all whispy and stuff... and that whole scene with the Elites was sooo well executed. The whole thing was really well-paced: I was literally shaking with excitement throughout; so much that at one point I even squeaked. That's how awesome that episode was.

How many more episodes of this are there? And please, for the love of all things holy, let a network buy the rights to this and make more. :ohno

I liked the fact that the covenant sniper squad used the "new" green repeaters from Halo 2 and the needler rifles from Halo: Reach. The needler crystals looked awesome when they broke.

My only disappointment was that Colonel Mehaffey did not get a badass I sacrifice myself for this generation of soldiers moment since she appeared as a badass in the beginning of the show.

They hinted the appearance of Kelly 087... Fanboy smile she is another Spartan II in other words a killing machine like the chief.

I am curious if they show some Jackals and Grunts next since getting them right without having too much comic relief might be harder than getting the elites right.

Well one more episode to go an then a week later Halo 4 comes out in which you meet Lazky again. A reunion that will happen half a decade after the war against the Covenant that basically just began in those very last two episodes.

I've been really enjoying the snippets at the beginning of each episode showing Cortana going slowly insane. She was already beyond her operating life before the end of Halo 3, and now she's been floating in space with the Chief for four years (I believe).

For those who are not familiar with the canon established in the books the A.I. in Haloverse degrade over time and become corrupt after they have run for more than a few years; kind of like an old computer running down. They eventually develop personality quirks and go insane. They are suppose to be decommissioned and replaced, but Cortana is a special AI and has been integral to the success of the Chief. And he's been nonstop fighting for going on four games so there hasn't been time to cycle her out for a new AI.

In the clips, which I'm figuring will be in the actual game because they are animated and not live action, show her talking to herself; meaning she has copied her own programming so she had someone to converse with. There is also a different voice, which I'm assuming is suppose to belong to Doctor Halsey, who's brain Cortana was modeled after (because they use brains to make AI in Halo). So if you thought Cortana had gone effectively badshitcrazy in Halo 3, well, I guess we were wrong.

As for Jackals and Grunts, the enemy fire on the rooftop should have been coming from Jackals (The sharpshooters of the Covenant) and potentially Grunts. That needler kill was messy, but was very true to the book canon that describes that needlers rip people apart without armor. If you guys stayed to watch the preview of the next episode at the end of this one it shows hunters in the background and in the reflection of Chief's helmet. Also, massive green explosion. Fuel rod cannons go!

If those freaks want to meet God it is our duty to help them along!

This is where Lazkys story will be continued in the Halo universe.

^ Why is that badass woman's voice so familiar? :ohno

Edit:

Apparently the actress is Vedette Lim (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1890728/), and I haven't seen anything she's been in. Guess she must remind me of someone else! :uhoh

Always two they are: A hunter and his twin brother/sister. It's not like already one of them is bad enough :whaa

So 4 more days until the Forward Unto Dawn runs into the Infinity. I will have to figure out how to put my lady into cryo sleep so that I find the time to play all these games.<object height="315" width="560">

What was the thing that the Chief gave to Lasky? I couldn't quite make out what it was - some bit of game knowledge I'm missing?

Pretty sure it was just a chunk of the hunter's armor. A momento. Obviously lasky kept it, polished it down, and keeps it with him.

Ah, okay. It looked surprisingly round and etched... I wondered if it was the hunter equivalent of a dog tag, or if there was some loot drop / "I just killed a Hunter!" trophy / item / thing from the games that it was meant to resemble or somesuch.

Actually it is Silva's dog tag that got melted together with a piece of Lasky's armor due to the hunter plasma fire.
Actually the cut at that point is very bad since it shows the Master Chief destroying the Hunter and then picking up something on the ground with the next cut showing Lasky being passed out in the woods.
So the cut suggests that the Spartan is picking up a piece of the Hunter while infact he is picking up something close to Lasky.
