So Steam Punk is set in an alternate victorian era where people have overcome most of life's problems with pneumatics/steam and gears.

So why is there no Fluid Punk that is set in the Edwardian Era where people have overcome most of life's problems with hydraulics and electric magnets?

John Glayde
Oct 19th, 2012, 06:16:37 AM
^ I think that would probably still get called "Steam Punk".

It's one of those things where there's an accurate definition, and then a more vague definition that is commonly used. Most people would refer to "Steam Punk" as anything that happens before "Diesel Punk" (1930s-40s stuff like the Rocketeer, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, etc).

A lot of Nikolai Tesla style stuff gets called Steam Punk, but that's all electromagnets and stuff.

I'd like to see a piece of legislation passed which would enable the British people to vote utterly stupid people off the island, marking the first time something good ever came from reality TV. And the first to go would be Nick Griffin. Why is that man still even here!?

<rant>And frankly, I'd like to be able to do the same here. For fuck's sake, he parked so poorly I should have taken a pic except I didn't have my damn phone. My 89 year old grandmother could park better than that.

Every now and then, a new technology (http://gizmodo.com/5958721/i-really-want-a-credit-card-with-a-lcd-screen-and-touchscreen-keypad) comes out that reminds me that we're living in the future.

Even though I travel a lot for work/out of habit, there are certain moments where it hits me that I am somewhere other than home. This morning, sitting on a bench up in Piazza Michelangelo in the depths of giardino rose with a cafe mochaccino ('little moroccan'), looking out over Firenze with the Duoma peeking above the rooftops and church bells echoing across the river while leaves fell and the air settled at that perfect crispness that comes before an intolerable chill? Gotta relate this conversation with my mom...

(while riding in the truck on the way to pick up my new bed, with coffee)

Dee: There's only one cupholder that's free. Use that one.
Mom: I can't find the hole. I can't...find...oh. Found it. It slid right in.
Dee: *snorts coffee & can't breathe for several minutes & turns a dozen shades of red*
Mom: What's wrong? Are you alright?
Dee: *nope, still in hysterics*
Mom: So which exit is Creepy's again?

I love my mother...seriously. She's a priceless gem. We went to a Sleepy's warehouse to pick up my new mattress in lieu of paying $130 for a delivery & pickup of the old one.

My sides still hurt.

6. You will get stared at if you ask for a 'dry' cappucino.
7. You will get stared at if you say you do not know who the heck this Wenceslas dude is.
