So, i buy one of those 70 inch(hi def thingies ) TV and my son has a ps3 that has blu ray. buy a few blu rays and watch them. My question is, why does blu ray look like everything was filmed with a super clear camcorder? i mean the special effects on films are great, its cyrtal clear etc..but it totally takes away from the cinamatic feel of movies! i mean the pirate movies other than the sfx, looks like it was shot with a camcorder. Same with h.d channels, is advancement in technology actually going backwards to some degree? there is a lot i know, but technology aint one, what gives?

There is a setting for your HD tv called 'auto motion' or auto motion plus. When this is on it removes ALL blur from your screen. This leaves a super clear image that looks fakey/home video-ish to most people. Most movies or tv shows look better/normal with a bit of blur during motion. I have ours set on 'clear' (there are several degrees of auto motion plus that I can choose from with our HD TV) which removes some but not all, making the picture a little more sharp without causing it to look bizarre.

Incidentally I heard that Peter Jackson shot The Hobbit in such a way that in select theatres you can see a super clear version. People who've seen it complain that it looks weird and fakey just like with the Auto Motion feature.

Anyway, check the menu settings on your TV. Auto Motion is under Picture Options on mine. We have a Samsung. Just test out the different options and find one you like. :)

Thank you! did all that you said and more. Actually took it back and got a smaller screen(70 way too big for the space :( ) anyway, still the same issue, but turns out, it looks as it is suppose to :/ weird to me high tech is actually makes everything equal (well minus great effects etc..) thanks again!!!!!

Changing from SD to HD is a big difference in and of itself, and I'm glad it worked out for you. I hate that Auto Motion stuff. :)
