View Full Version : Doctor Who: Favorite Doctor?

Now that we have a fairly large Who audience on the boards...
This is a pretty contentious topic so thought I'd put it to a poll! Who is your favorite incarnation of the Doctor?
Oh, and you only get one vote :D

I see what you did there. Sorry, 4th Doctor is the best. When they had something approaching original stories too. Tennant, yeah okay, but Matt Smith is just..... ugh. Un-bloody-watchable

It depends what you're asking.
In terms of the individual characters, I like Tennant the most. He was cool, energetic, often bonkers, and seemed to view the galaxy with a sense of wide-eyed wonder... which made it all the more dramatic when he went all dark, moody, and threatening. He put a really unique and memorable stamp on the character.
I think Matt Smith is a better Doctor, though. Unlike Tennant, who was very much his own thing, Matt Smith feels like an amalgamation of everything that has gone before. There are echoes of Tennant in his performance, but also bits and pieces that remind me of some of the ye-olde Doctors as well. He plays the character as someone who is incredibly old: there's more restraint and maturity. The downside there is that Matt is often overshadowed by his companions: Amy and River both have very strong personalities, and Matt Smith doesn't quite draw attention to himself as much.
So I guess... I think Ten is a better character, but Eleven is a better Doctor, if that distinction makes any kind of sense. :uhoh
I voted Eleven, because the package deal with Matt Smith (companions, writing, production, et al) is just a shit-ton better.

Even though I'm not quite the level of fan that some of y'all are, of the episodes and clips that I have seen of the modern Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston is my favorite. That might be subject to change as I plan on working through the series in order from the beginning as time permits.

In the end, it was an easy choice. Yes, Matt Smith is great at the comedy, both in delivery and in the physicality of his performance, and he is consequently very entertaining to watch. But, most importantly, he is in a league of his own when it comes to convincing me that he is a 900 year old alien; the levity is tempered with great depths of hardened darkness, and it never fails to give me chills when it surfaces.

Nine. Like I've said ad nauseum, he's a real bloke's bloke. Not that I don't enjoy whimsy, I just kind of like how no-nonsense he can be at times. Also he doesn't have a silly costume quirk like chucks or bowties, unless you count big ears.
That being said, I've enjoyed all of the Doctors that I've seen. Tennant had this crazy Jim Carrey energy that snapped around and he had some amazing angry Doctor moments.
Still getting a feel for Matt Smith and trying to parse those...eyebrows. I will admit that he had me from the moment he made fun of Scottish food though!

YES his eyebrows, or rather, lack of them. He needs some. Exactly!

All the Brit posters so far voted Eleven.

It's a tough call, because all 3 actors are downright brilliant in their own way. And Christopher Eccleston is horribly and unjustly underrated and in some ways forgotten for his contributions to the Who universe.
As much as I love all three, I come down on the Tennant side. He's such a ball of intensity, so goofy, so passionate, so funny, and capable of such darkness, he's hard to resist.
And I do have to admit that, as a woman, there's a wee element of sexual attraction that influences my choice. Matt Smith is all full of squee and I love him to bits, but he's more like a pal, almost like a very old little brother. Christopher Eccleston is someone to be in awe of, maybe almost like some kind of professor or teacher. But David Tennant is something else, if you catch my drift. If I had been Donna Noble and thought I heard Ten saying, "I want to mate," my response would have been, "Right here, right now!"
I'm a dork.
:o :mischief :lol :love :hug

One of the things I love the most about Donna, besides her shoutiness, is that she looks like a real woman. A little older than the usual female companion, and with a realistic body type. She bucks the trend of what the media likes to portray as the desirable female form. And that just makes her more perfect, as far as I'm concerned. :)

Hmmm, there's been 11 Doctors, but only 3 options? :huh
Anyway, my vote (as always) is for Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor

I thought I'd put the word "NewWho" somewhere in my original post... apparently not.
Your favorite Doctor since the reboot, I guess, then.

The poll does not support more than 10 options anyway so one of the doctors would have gotten the stick anyway.

The Sixth Doctor. Absolutely no one likes Colin Baker, because he was a dick.

Actually you did (as I just discovered) - it's mentioned in the label for the poll.
But I still vote for the Third Doctor anyway. :p

There was a guy cosplaying him at D*Con who was in character for the whole parade and the photoshoot afterwards. It was pretty funny.

Tennant-Doctor. Because... unf.
Oh, and he made me cry for him. Three times. That's a feat.

At this point in time, I have to give the nod to Tennant. Matt Smith is growing on me, but Tennant is something so very special.

Wait, really? I didn't think I could vote twice under the same account. When I saw how the poll was displayed in the thread I assumed I hadn't and voted.
Why does the poll let you vote twice?
