Have to admit, it is pretty fun! I haven't had a chance to play with anyone else yet, so I am sure it will only be more fun once I have :)

:3 I finally am getting to play again... my Ranger tamed a Shark I can now sick on people in the water. I am infinitely amused.

I am enjoying GW2. I haven't had much chance to play it. Immediately started having computer issues. Again. I've leveled a warrior up to 40ish, but it's starting to feel a little boring. Warriors are kind of simple and straight forward so I started leveling an Elementalist and specializing into Earth and having a lot of fun.

How easy is it to level up, and how practical is it to have multiple characters?

Normally when I start a new game I make a Glen, and berzerker my way through stuff until I get the hang of the game. I usually save the fancier, more complicated things for subsequent playthroughs. If I'm limited by the number of characters I'm allowed to have though, I may have to pick my class a bit more carefully.

What are you playing as, Jenny?

I'm usually not an alt-aholic but, I find myself enjoying all the professions gameplay and wanting to purchase more character slots so I can have one of each.

Neat stuff - you're limited to 2 crafting disciplines *at a time* which means you can level something like weapon smithing and leather working, and shelve it to take up a new profession, say artifice. Your progress in weapon smithing is saved for whenever you want to come back to it. Super cool.

5 characters at start, but you can buy more slots, I think it's 10 bucks a pop though @_@.

So I've barely done any grouping at all, just with friends and stuff to hang out a bit. The way area quests work mean you really don't ever have to group until you decide you want to tackle dungeons which are apparently balls hard. Dunno, not been yet.

So far I'll say Thief is probably my favorite profession, but man everything else is like a close second. Mesmer and Engineer particularly are fun.

I've noticed a gross trend of people who inform people that there are extras to the game, like the extra character slots, that cost additional money to buy but forget to mention that you can exchange your character's gold for the special currency "gems". Even official reviews of the game have left this out and have actually given the game lower scores for it. The exchange rate is pretty fair too. By late game you should have the money to buy enough gems to buy more character slots, bank space, etc.

For any newcomers to the game I would greatly suggest sticking with a single character. The game as a lot to do, and it's almost too much to do across multiple characters. Between crafting, questing, and exploration you never run out of things to do. I'm an alt maniac but I'm trying to curve myself. It's hard, because I keep wanting to try out the classes I haven't played yet and only having five slots for eight professions makes that hard.

Also the armor dye system makes me very happy. I love it. The armor appearance changing system not so much. Rift nailed that one best and no one else has come close. I don't like having to spend gold or use special items to change armor appearance, and in GW2 it's almost necessary because the armor and weapons you craft are usually the most simple and boring of models, while the stuff you find is awesome looking but has horrible stats.

I"m playing on the server Sanctum of Rall. We lose every WvW encounter.

Wow did not know that. Learned something!

Also - I actually transferred off of Sanctum of Rall last week, not for the losing of WvW stuff but to play with friends on another server. Small world!

I'm playing as a Charr Warrior (on Kaineng server) for now, though I will probably try playing a ranged/magic class soon.

Sep 14th, 2012, 06:44:06 PM
I've got a level almost-30 Sylvari Ranger over on Henge of Denravi (whoooooo)

Also have a Charr Necromancer, Human Engineer and an Asura Elementalist that I made but haven't really done much with yet.

From what I've read...we should be able to play with people on other servers. I'll have to look in to it.

Is there a really helpful website that will help me work out what these classes are, or do I need to wait until I have the game installed for that kind of information?

I know that the Ranger uses pets, and I'm guessing the Necromancer is something similar, and I'm pretty sure I saw a youtube video of an Engineer with explodey things, but beyond that I have no idea how any of the classes work.

I played the GW free trial once, but pretty much all I did with that was run around as a female knight/fighter/thing in my underwear, randomly hitting things with swords. ^_^;

The actual site has a bunch of basic info and some more in-depth stuff on their forums. *nod*

It has a basic rundown of each class at least that'll give you a better idea of what each is capable of/specializes in.

Despite having the discs, Guild Wars decided to download everything anyway. It's been running for three hours, and it's still only at 24%. :|

My username is captain untouchable.5713, and I will try and get on the same server as you guys, assuming there is still space by the time this install is done. >_<

Also... Guild Wars? Why your password rules so annoying? :mad

EDIT:

Game installed. Now for the updates. :|

46,000 files to go... :cry

It's at 75% guys. Nearly done! :dance

I couldn't get on Crystal Sands with you guys (it was full), but I've been tromping around on Eregon Terrace and having a fair bit of fun.

When I read about it, I didn't think I'd like the whole weapon skill thing... but actually, it's made it a lot easier to try out the other weapons, and I've discovered awesome skills that I'd never have known about otherwise. My favourite so far is the fifth staff skill for the Guardian: I get a full-on Gandalf style You Shall Not Pass ability, which is amazeballs. :smokin

I dunno if it's like this for any other classes, but depending on which weapon I've got equipped I can actually cover most of the bases as far as healing, tanking, DPS, ranged, etc goes. I'm probably a jack of all trades and master of none... but I get to hit things with swords and shoot glowy lights at people, so I'm pretty happy. :dance

Huh...it wasn't full earlier! We must have taken the lead in WvW :lol

No worries, it'll drop back down and you might be able to get in later :dance

WORST case scenario...is eventually server guesting will show up and we can all play together anyway

Dasquian Belargic

There's only one or two 'ranged' abilities that I've noticed as a warrior, but I have the ability to buff myself, do area of affect damage, tank/dps and heal myself. I think most of the classes are set up in such a way that you can solo without too much difficulty :)

The warrrior can shoot a longbow... once you hit Level 7 you'll be able to swap between two weapon sets with the ` key, so you can archer stuff at range then swap weapons when they get in close.

Hot damn - your bank vault is shared across all your accounts, so you can use it to shuffle around your crafting resources and trade loot items to the appropriate people. That's bloody genius!

Edit:

Something else I just noticed: if you buy additional skills with skill points for the 6, 7, 8, etc keys, there's a little up arrow on your hot bar above them so you can change it really easily. Not sure if you can do it in combat (I would guess no), but being able to swap quickly makes it way less of a ball-ache than going through the menus.

Tippity tip. The first dungeon shows up at 30 via email with directions. It's kinda tough but, doable with a smart group. Careful, make sure you've got good ranged options no matter your class. Projectile reflect is mega helpful too.

I actually didn't bother with that one and kept plugging along till 40 and did the 2nd dungeon, which by comparison is super easy (and fun!)

Thief is my favorite profession by far, but all the others are tied for 2nd? Serious, it's all fun.

Also I am addicted to the cooking trade skill and regularly dispense tasty culinary delights to people for fun.

My Silvari guy has started referring to people as "young one". He was quite literally born yesterday. :|

Also, my personal story hasn't given me the shoes that match the rest of my outfit. :shakefist

I think I need to start keeping a tally of all the cult references in this. I've played for twenty minutes so far today, and I've already had "Urge to kill rising!" (as well as a bunch of other lines I recognised from Baldur's Gate, but can't remember), and some Silvari guy describing himself as a leaf on the wind.

I can has nerdgasm. :3:

Also I am addicted to the cooking trade skill and regularly dispense tasty culinary delights to people for fun.

It seems like everything my Chef prepares becomes "Soulbound", which presumably means I can't trade it to anyone? Am I doing something wrong, does that happen with certain types of food, or does Soulbound not mean what I think it means?

Maybe I've made a stack, used one of the stack, and the whole stack ends up bound to me? I dunno.

Hmmm, that's odd. Not sure if they changed that in the most recent update. I'll take a peak on the official forums, but I've been sending stuff to other people since day 1

Maybe it's just certain items, I'm really not sure at the moment o_O

I totally picked join the circus thing with my human. :uhoh

Edit:

I think I agree with most of what he said there. With the exception of your personal story (which for some races is hilariously awesome at times, like when Seraph sent my David Tennant-esque human spellcaster guy undercover to infiltrate the circus), it's mostly an "Oh look - shit is happening. Get stuck in!" situation. Combined with daily achievements and stuff, you spend so much time with an actual objective that you never actually have to do any grinding... which I think is a stroke of genius.

The only bit that I've found to be different from what he says is the skills thing. My Warrior is the same as he mentioned - only a handful of skills seem actually useful (unless you're part of a raid, I guess), so I've got a bunch of skills that I don't really want, just to unlock the next level. My Engineer has too many skills though - I've already got half a dozen that I want to use regularly, and only two skills unlocked so far. And with my Elementalist, the combat skills are a bit too muddled: the Fire skills with the staff are pretty good, while most of the Air ones are a bit rubbish; whereas with the Scepter it's the opposite way around. I've got to carry one of each weapon around pretty much, so I can swap them over depending on the situation I'm in, which is mildly inconvenient.
