So, with us firing things up a little more in the Fallout RP, figured I'd try and help paint a worldview for folks looking to get into things.

The New California Republic - Think of these guys as the Galactic Republic in the Fallout series. They're huge, bloated, inefficient, corrupt, and paving the road to hell with very good intentions. The NCR stretches from south of Los Angeles upward to Klamath Oregon, and east well into Nevada. The NCR champions democratic ideals of the pre-war era, and tries their darnedest to bring its citizens into that semblance of normalcy, with very mixed results. Their army is huge and has no shortage of manpower, although that manpower is usually badly equipped, badly trained, and with spotty morale. The exception to this are the NCR Rangers, who are an elite cadre of special forces, with some of the best training and equipment in the Republic.
The Legion - formerly Caesar's Legion, but following the Second Battle of the Hoover Dam (and Caesar's death), leadership of this group is up in the air. The Legion is a military dictatorship, made up of the sum of over 80 conquered tribes, united under a common culture steeped in the auspices of the ancient Roman Empire. They conquer tribes and smaller civilizations, enslave some, kill others, and recruit the worthy to become Legionaries. Though their technological equipment is crude next to nearly any other faction, they make up for this with respectable numbers, and massive amounts of training. Their legionaries are at peak fitness, and they are professional soldiers who have honed their skills in countless battles.
Khans of the Great Basin - are a criminal empire of motorcycle gangsters, originally from the Utah. They have loose ties to other groups calling themselves Khans, and carve out a living with motorcycle-based pillage, drug running, and the occasional bit of kidnapping. Recent wars in the Utah against Caesar's Legion have gone poorly for them, and they are being pushed further northwest.
The Brotherhood of Steel - The Brotherhood is a sect of technology-fetishists that seek to hoard all high tech weapons and keep them out of the hands of common people, believing this route will prevent atrocities like the Great War from happening. They generally keep to themselves beyond that, and are known for being heavily armed and clad in power armor.
New Reno crime families - There are four families of note in New Reno, the largest of which (and the one with effective control on the city) are the Bishops. The Bishops owe their position of favor in New Reno to efforts by the NCR to install them as proxy rulers, in exchange for the Bishops' help elsewhere. Smaller crime families are the Wrights (bootleggers) and Mordinos (drug runners), although the Van Graff syndicate has also cornered the city's energy weapon market and made a name for themselves, taking the place of the Salvatore family, which was destroyed a generation ago.
The State of Unity - A semi-autonomous district in the NCR (located in what was once called Smith Valley), Unity is a partnership between members of the Followers of the Apocalypse (a sect devoted to free dissemination of knowledge, aid, and charity) and the community of Broken Hills, which gathered humans, ghouls, and super mutants to co-exist peacefully. Unity is ostensibly pro NCR, but generally keeps to themselves.
The Enclave - though effectively wiped out in the events of Fallout 2, the evil remnants of what was once the United States government and its military high echelon possibly still exist in very small numbers, somewhere. This group believes in preserving the human race, and they seek to eradicate those who are imperfect. Such lucky people include super mutants, ghouls, and even people who have been exposed to a little too much radiation. Real charming guys. Their tech is the most advanced in the Fallout universe, even moreso than what the Brotherhood of Steel has. These are just things we've established to this point. There are also the potential for countless different tribes, raider groups, etc. If you're interested in writing into one of these groups and have questions, feel free to sound them off here and we can see if we can get a giant criss-crossing narrative going!
