Possibly honeymooning in the US - need ideas.

So I'm getting married on the 11th of August and have the following week booked off, meaning I'll be back in work on Monday 20th.

Me and the missus are looking at possible honeymoon destinations in the USA. Ideally we're looking for somewhere warm where she can get a tan, but have plenty of things to keep me occupied outside of the bedroom, be it sights to see, museums, attractions, etc. We're not one for fairground rides so not even considering Disneyland, plus we'd need longer to enjoy the entire resort anway.

Places we've looked at so far are New York and Los Angeles, though Los Angeles is really expensive and likely out straight away. One place Christina thought of was Miami/Florida, and I have to say I'd love to catch a launch at Cape Canaveral while there. But we're still undecided so recommendations of places and what they have to offer would be ossum! And if it's your home town, we'll have to meet up while there!

Miami is incredibly fun, but its quite hot this time of year. I'd say it would be a good trip because of everything you can do there though. You want more than a beach, and Miami offers that and then some.

If you want mountains and such, then maybe Aspen or Breckenridge. You're going to be on the very tail-end of the mountain flower season. At peak season the mountain flowers are absolutely gorgeous.

Plus on top of that there are plenty of lakes, great restaurants, and local attractions. Weather should be plenty warm with good sun, high elevation makes for good tanning (provided you wear enough sunscreen to avoid burning).

Depends on what both of you are into. I personally despise large cities, which is why I suggest the above.

I really liked Miami. If you go to Florida, try and visit Key West. Definitely one of the coolest places I've been in the US so far.

We went to Disney World for our honeymoon. :D It was a blast.

We hit Lake Tahoe, which I highly recommend as well!

Miami was fun, would recommend that. Washington DC may also be your speed; there's tons to do and you're within a day's drive of a ton of stuff, including a beach. I don't recommend New York if you're on a budget since things often get expensive there. If you have money it's just fine, though traffic is kinda terrible.
