View Full Version : The Great Timeline Shuffle

Okay, now that we've set something to peg our roleplays to in terms of time, here's where we get to shuffle them all into order, more or less. I'll post the consensus in this thread and edit it as people give me their data. If there's any disagreements, lets talk it out here. We will settle all arguments according to the music video "Beat it" and all arguing parties will tie their hands together and fight with switchblades.

Remember the format is YEAR.DAYS where years = # of years after the battle of Yavin and days number 1-368.

So, let's begin:

Looks good to me, very helpful. :)

I'm going to suggest we put the date into the title of a thread so you can tell when it is without having to open it. And also if you go back and backdate your threads you can edit the title by doubleclicking on the main forum page rather than editing in post, and then your old thread won't get bumped.

http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php?title=SW_Timeline_2

Put up a new wiki page for new timeline shenanigans. I'm using the MU template that Jace made but I'm sure/I think/I hope? he might want to do a SW specific one perhaps? I don't know. Anyway... have at it. :)

Once this gets mostly figured out and settled down "we" can start converting the old timeline to BBY/ABY.

Template for putting in RPs to the wiki

<code>
{{SW_Timeline
| Title=Thread Title
| URL=Thread URL
| Date=Date
| Factions=Participating Factions
| Characters=Participating Characters
| Description=Summary of Events }}</code>

I've updated the 7 ABY and 8 ABY entries per what has been confirmed in this thread, but it's up to y'all to fill in the plot summaries. I might start in on all the 9 ABY stuff tonight or tomorrow.

As this timeline grows, it may become prudent to split off individual years off onto their own pages, possibly organizing those individual years by month or some other subdivider (still on one page though) for ease of navigation.

don't get them started on months again ;)

Okay I was talking to Droo and we're a little ?? at the dates Charley put in for some of his Wheel RPs.

In the "old" timeline I have Serena's capture from Cloud City happening about 6 months before her rescue. That puts that thread at about 8.175 and is the date of the formation of The Wheel (there is no thread where it's formed of course). She was captured as the Jedi were leaving Cloud City to go to the Wheel of course.

Anyway, so Cirr's Kree'arr thread can't be at 8.125 it has to be later than that. I'm not sure if you have a justification for that date, Charley, or if you just pulled the number out of your ass ;). 8.175 is approximate but I dont' want to put it more than twenty days earlier than that.

http://www.sw-fans.net/wiki/index.php?title=3_AE#3_Years.2C_12_Months_AE see? it's like at the beginning of the month and then there's the Life Day thread at the end of the year. Which of course our years don't match up anymore but... anyway. :\

Consensus is date at the end? I will change what I've done if we all do it at the end of the title. I think it should be consistent across the board, don't you?

Sanis Prent

I'm not really worried one way or another. Whatever you like, I think?

I just think they should all look the same. *shrug*

I'm not sure it necessarily matters all that much, but I prefer it at the start, personally.

The whole "X.XXX - Thread Title" thing looks cool, and it means all the numbers line up on the left, which is all neat and organised and appeals to my inner neatfreak. Having it at the end makes it all wibbly-wobbly, and that isn't organised at all. :uhoh

Having it at the end makes it easier to see the thread titles at a glance and see threads i have to post to...rather than just a bunch of numbers. :colbert

Honestly... I wont be doing this to any of my threads (I just don't like it, tbh), so whatever you guys come up with wanting to use for yours is fine and dandy with me.

I'm with Sarah. I find it easier to find threads when its at the end, but that's just the way my brain is wired.

Droo
May 23rd, 2012, 11:22:17 AM
I was originally in favour of the numbers first approach, for all the reasons Jace stated. But then, when I saw it in action, I found it awkward to actually locate threads I was looking for, as has been mentioned.

I'd say, for those who are using the dates, go numbers last for the sake of sheer user friendliness.

I did some and Sam did some. More to do, but I think everything in the first post has been put into our sandbox timeline, SW Timeline 2

How long do you think The Vanguards threads will span? Ten days? Twenty days? Two days? :p

I need to know so I can plan when my Nubian Princess thread goes.

No

..........can we do away with mandatory thread I MEAN POST lengths too?

I don't think it's an essential thread anymore.
