Barbarian is now Level 18 and I've been making good use of the auction house upgrading my gear with that all-important Magic Find. I love the search filters - they allow you to find exactly the right item. Let's say you have a ring that has +5% Magic Find. You can look for items with a minimum 5% Magic Find and get a huge list. But you fancy a bit more Life, so add Vitality into one of the filters and Search again. Convenient = awesome!

Gonna try to get to Level 25 by the time I go to bed tonight. Might prove tough since I'm off to my parents for tea tonight and probably wont get home until around 11pm but we'll see how it goes. Need to try and improve my DPS which is okay but could be better. I might lose the life regen and go for more damage stats.

Tried taking on the Act 2 boss and died three times in a row.

So I spent 40,000 Gold on the Auction house and my stats took a massive boost! Health went from 1662 to 3852, Strength Damage bonus went from 140% to 299%, damage reduction from 28% to 40%, but the real help was my Life regen - from 24.36 per second to 53.35 per second, not to mention the life regen form my own hits, damage and kills, plus Health globes heal me for a bonus 305 Life.

Those stat increases made the fight a walk in the park. If you ever played Star Wars Galaxies and had full buffs, you'll know your already impressive health is reinforced by taking less damage, and also regenerating very quickly - that's essentially what I had then!

I can't wait to see what kind of immense stats I'll end up with in Nightmare mode!

On to Act 3!

Yeah the new game is nowhere near as long as Diablo 2.

Haven't played much this week as I've been pre-occupied with other things. Almost up to the Skeleton King on Nightmare.

Just hit Act III of Nightmare. It's really getting hard now, and especially when playing with other people. The Act II boss fight still continues to be the hardest one out of the bunch. The rest seem boring in comparison, but we'll just have to see what Nightmare has left to offer. I'm having a difficult time playing my monk. I've used the same abilities, with the same runes, for some ten+ levels. The stuff I unlock seems pointless and is usually based around bonuses when I crit, but my crit rate sucks and I have a hard time giving up solid damage for bonus crit chance and crit damage. Instead, I've been trying my best to build my monk as a dodge support tank using every evasion buffing ability I have, and that's the reason I haven't changed much.

So, trying to only use items with a mixture of DEX and VIT. I haven't seen anything with bonus to dodge so I'm guessing that doesn't exist. My abilities include:
Fist of Thunder: Lightning Flash (Dodge bonus)
Wave of Light: Explosive Light (Great damage and escape tool)
Breath of Life: Circle of Life /or/ Serenity: Reap What is Sown (depending on whether I'm in a group or not)
Sweeping Wind: Blade Storm (Because I love the AoE, and the other two suck)
Mystic Ally: Air Ally (It's invaluable)
Mantra of Evasion: Hard Target (more Evasion)

I tend to change my passives around all over the place but typically use Resolve, Chant of Resonance, Seize the Initiative, or Guardian's Path. I would love to use Sixth Sense, but my crit chance is horrid. Like 7%. My dodge doesn't really increase at all with it.

In the end I feel like I'm doing it wrong because while this seems to work okay I do not feel optimal. Everyone else I knew is building straight DPS Monks but I frequently play with a group of friends that consist of Wizards and Witch Doctors that need someone to babysit and protect them. The Barbarian can't do it so I'm trying my best to make the monk fill that niche. I've even gone so far as to enable the option to choose all my own skills and taking nothing but defensive abilities. This way I become a crowd control heal bot but have no damage at all, which is less optimal than my normal build.

I spend most of my time just tinkering with my toon. I guess that's a testament to how good Diablo III is, but it's starting to aggravate me because I do not see other people having similar issues with the other classes.

BTW: Something I discovered was handy while looking up the info for this post is that you can find much better info for the skills and abilities on websites like the Diablo Wiki.
