The warm sun lit atmosphere faded away as Krin May broke free from the small planets atmosphere. The sky turned dark as the planet below released it pull on the small freighter. Krin took a look at the empty system before him. Nothing to see out there but space, he thought to himself. He looked over his instrument panel then cut the sub light engines and engaged the freighters hyperdrive.
The short run from Derin base to the courageous had become a bit of a bore. He made the run every day and had for the last five weeks. Meds; food; supply’s; you name it; it was tucked away back in his hold.
Krin had set the course in and kicked back to watch a holo drama he had picked up on Sullust before he left for Derin Base. The film was not bad and the dinner that fallowed was good. Well as good as you could expect out in the middle of nowhere. He had just settled in for a short nap when the hull of the ship popped and made a loud clank then exited hyperspace.
“What the hell.”
Krin opened the door to the small sleeper and ran to the bridge. What he saw shocked and frightened him.
“Imperials.”

Captain Furgus stood looking out at the small craft just pulled from hyperspace by the CC2200 Detainer (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Detainer_CC-2200_interdictor_cruiser)Frigate. The Freighter sat motionless for a moment then began to move as the pilot engaged the sub light drives and turned to escape.
Furgus had seen many other unsuspecting pilots try just this same maneuver. Turn and run hoping to escape the interdiction field.
"All forward. Lets run the them into the trap."
The Gladiator Cruiser shot forward in chase leaving the Detainer to continue its interdiction. Furgus smiled as he thought of what was to come. The freighter opened the distance between the cruiser and frigate making its way out of the grasp if the interdiction field. Then without warning two Carrack Cruisers exited hyperspace in front of the fleeing freighter.
The pilot of the fleeing ship was sure to have been surprised. The small ship turned and tried to move off away from the two Light cruiser. The freighter was agile but not fast enough to outrun the carracks. with the Interdictor field the Gladiator and the two carrack flanking on all but one side the pilot of the freighter had no chance. A tractor beam from one of the carrack caught the freighter and held it till the Gladiator launched boarding ship. The trap had worked many many times. He was surprised the Alliance had not caught onto it yet. this was the seventh freighter his flotilla had snagged. all seemed bound for the same undisclosed place. The pilots and crew of the captured ships had been broken but every time Furgus looked into this mysterious destination he found nothing but empty space. Computer probes had indeed backed the tortured crews stories but nothing could be found.

Reshmar sat looking over the reports on the missing Freighters. Seven freighters headed for Courageous had now gone missing. The ship had been moved each time to avoid being discovered and was now in the process of moving once again. This was becoming a head ache for Admiral Holt. He had ask Reshmar to deal with the disappearance of the ships while he managed the chore of moving the 3rd fleets supply HQ once again.
He looked over the ships and commanders in the area. One stood out. Ah the Selfless. She was one of the newly commissioned modified dreadnaughts. More then up to the task and her commander was young but competent. He called his aide into the room.
"Lieutenant, Get Captain Nomarr on the horn. I have a task for him."

Aboard the Selfless
18:00
Aaron Nomarr was in the middle of a gundark egg omelet when he was interrupted by a beep from his holocron. Admiral Reshmar, the holocron announced. He jumped back slightly and nearly choked on his food before managing to swallow the bite and put his meal aside. Of all the times for Admiral Reshmar to drop in unannounced, why does it have to be in the middle of a gundark egg omelet? He thought. Wiping the sauce off of his mouth, he leaned forward and pressed the “accept” button. Instantly, the Admiral’s fishlike head popped up.
“Good evening Admiral,” Aaron said. He lifted his fingers in a small salute before letting them rest at his side. “I’m sorry for the wait; I was in the middle of a meal.” He added the last comment almost spitefully, but at the last moment he managed to change his tone into that of a status report. “Any news, sir?” He asked.

"Ah Captain Nomarr, It is a pleasure to speak with you again. I have pending business so I am afraid I must make this brief."
Reshmar keyed in a code and a small side window appeared just below his projected image. It listed the ships missing and the co-ordinates they were last reported in.
"This is a list of shipments we have lost somewhere between Sullust and Courageous. All were small to medium freighters and all were third party operators. They only know about the Courageous and where they were to rendezvous."
The list was replaced with a small map showing the main hyperspace routes the missing ships used.
"A new Transport will be leaving Sullust in fifteen hours. I would like you and the Selfless to move along the same course as the freighter. If my hunch is correct you will find out who is intercepting our ships."
The small map disappeared and only Reshmar's image remained.
"You are free to engage any hostile forces captain. But don't get into more than you can handle out there. I have no idea where you will end up or what other assets we will have in the area. you and your crew will be on your own here Aaron. Use your best judgment."

As Admiral Reshmar’s image faded, Aaron keyed in to his navigation crew. “Prepare our course to Sullust.”
Looking at his data pad, Aaron could see Sullust was only seven hours away, enough time to arrive and prepare for the course ahead. From what Reshmar had told him, he was sure the Empire was using Interdictor Cruisers to pull the Rebel ships out of hyperspace, then capturing them. What troubled him was that the Imperials knew where the freighters would be going. There had to be a mole on Sullust. It would be best not to log into Sullust’s records.
Finishing his dinner, Aaron returned to the bridge of the Selfless, his loyal dreadnaught cruiser. He smiled nostalgically, remembering the three and a half years he had spent on the cruiser. Memories from previous battles flashed by. Atzerri, Bildessen, Dornia. All minor plantes that had been unfortunate enough to be attacked by the Imperials. In each battle, he had fought off the Imperials, sustaining often major damage. His ship was older than he was, which contributed to the unnecessary damage.
“Sir, the course for Sullust is set. Shall we engage the hyperdrive?” His comm beeped as Navigation reported in.
“Yes.” There was a second of lag before the countdown started. At the end, the Selfless’ hyperdrive coughed to life and the ship jolted as it jumped into hyperspace. Aaron watched as the stars lengthened as the ship sped off towards Sullust.
Aboard the Selfless
1:00 Sullust System
Aaron was aroused from sleep as the Selfless exited hyperspace, the huge cruiser ponderously meandering its way towards the planet up ahead. Lines of incoming ships gleamed like streams of silver in front of the busy planet. Towards the left, Aaron could see the SoroSuub shipyards. The sublight engine sputtered as it engaged and the Selfless barged its way through the lines of ships. Most pilots ignored the large dreadnaught; the sight of a military ship was common on Sullust.
Aaron reached over and commed the targeted freighter. Hopefully Reshmar’s gamble paid off. It wouldn’t go unnoticed when someone discovered an entire dreadnaught missing from its planet. If they could catch the Imperials off guard, they would make the Imperials bite off more than they could chew.

Lany Camp sat down in the pilot seat and did the final check before jumping to Courageous. Rumors had been spreading about the ships headed for the Courageous disappearing. She didn't give it much thought. She had made the run before. It was a long run maybe those poor bastards just got lost out near Unknown space, maybe they were just incompetent and jumped into a sun trying to chart their own route tying to save time. who knew. She stuck to the route she was given and did not get in a hurry.
She looked over her controls and the gauges on the panel then moved the ship out to the edge of Sullust's gravity well and out of the traffic around the planet and its moons. She did a last check then engaged the Hyperdrive. The ship shot into hyperspace on its way to Courageous and her pay check.

Aaron watched as the small freighter jumped into hyperspace, and then signaled his own men to make the jump. He waited tensely until the stars became starlines and he was in hyperspace, just behind the freighter. With luck, the Imperials would see just the one freighter, and by the time the Selfless entered the battle, it would be too late for them.
"Sir, ETA is approximately 3 days." The lieutenant from navigation reported in as Aaron made his way to the simulation room.
After taking the turbolift, Aaron decided on doing some space combat. Before his assignment as a commander, he had been an X-Wing pilot and he still liked to practice every now and then, just to keep his old touch. He fondly remembered Fordeen, where he shot down thirteen TIEs in one battle, though the battle itself had lasted for several hours. Lowering himself into the simulator, he started up the system and was soon diving and weaving between TIEs, blasting away.
A few hours later, after an excellent battle, Aaron went off to the mess hall and grabbed some Bantha steak before retiring to his quarters, which were located next to the bridge of the ship. His room was elaborate, with many carpets and sheets. On the left wall hung a picture of Gilona, his girlfriend back on Yleersi. He walked over to his holo-projector and decided on a holo-tragedy. It was fairly depressing. Two people fell in love and wound up comitting suicide. The only real tragedy was the movie.
After that terrible ordeal, Aaron decided to get some sleep. If he was fighting Imperials, he might as well be awake when he did.

Furgus looked over his data. Their informant in Sullust had sent word of a transport heading for the Courageous. He had looked over the course he had been told the ship was taking. He transmitted the end point to Valc VII Fleet command for further investigation and readied his trap. The small Interdictor frigate moved up beside the Gladiator cruiser and engaged its gravity well generator. Soon another mouse will be in his trap and with it hopefully the location of the rebel base ship.
Three hours later like so many times before the small freighter dropped out of hyperspace right where Captain Furgus wanted it. He knew the crew was panicking and that they would attempt to run. The rebels were like rats, they scattered when the light hit them. And like always the freighter began move away from the interdiction field and right into his trap.
Alarms sounded and the tactical station was frantic with activity. Furgus did not need to look at the displays he could see the new addition to his party in the distance. There just to the aft of the now more than confused freighter sat a lone ship. Familure in appearance from the fore section but much different.
“Lieutenant, what is that?”
The tactical officer looked over the data on his display for a moment.
“Sir it is a dreadnaught cruiser, but nothing like I have seen before. The power signature is twice our own.”
Furgus considered what the Lieutenant had said. Just then like clockwork the two Carrack cruisers jumped in behind the freighter and the Cruiser. They had what ever that ship was in a cross fire and Captain Furgus meant to make the most of his tactical upper hand.

Aaron was rudely awakened by the groaning from the Selfless' hyperdrive as she was pulled from hyperspace by the Interdictor. He quickly thanked every deity he knew that her shields were up, and grabbed his intercomm.
"All hands to battle stations. All hands to battle stations!" He yelled over the intercomm and jumped out of bed, not even bothering to straighten his uniform. He surveyed the situation. The Selflessand the freighter were surrounded by a Gladiator and an Interdictor on one side and two Carracks on the other. Quickly, he grabbed the comm.
"Starboard ions, fire on the Carracks to give Hawk Squadron cover. Port batteries open fire on the Interdictors gravity well generators. Once they've been destroyed, open fire on the Gladiator. Hawk Squadron, destroy those exterior TIEs on the Carracks and then engage the Interdictor. Shift sixty percent power for hull shielding to port and starboard, thirty percent each." Aaron watched in satisfaction as the ion bombardment from the Selfless slammed into the Carracks, giving the X-Wings cover. Almost simultaneously, the port batteries slammed into the Interdictor's shielding, expending their energy on the shields.
He turned back towards the tactical display, watching the enemies' shields flicker as the ion bombardment dissapated on their shields, followed closely by the turbolaser blasts. The dazzling display of lasers lit up the surrounding space as the five ships traded fire.
"Sir, port shielding holding at 100%, starboard at ninety eight-point three percent." The ensign that had appeared at Aaron's shoulder was short and stout, his large belly unfit for an officer. Still, Aaron smiled slightly at the Selfless' resistance. She had undergone a massive upgrade and was now a ship of the line, rather than a scap pile. His ship could easily handle the firepower that she was being dealt; at least for now. His goal was to keep the freighter safe and to destroy the fleet that had been capturing them. He would achieve it by the day's end, or at least he hoped he would.

Captain Furgus stood watching as the battle erupted between his forces and the newly arrived Cruiser. Immediately his suspicions were confirmed. This was no normal Dreadnaught. Its power signature was off the charts for a ship of its class, and the moment it opened up with its weapons Furgus knew he had trouble. He took a moment to watch and see how the rebel commander reacted. Furgus looked from one station to the next and gave orders.
"Helm, All ahead full. Take us in closer where we can fight back. Tactical, Fire a full spread of missiles, shift off axis bearing and declination. Comm., Have the Grappler disengage and move to rally point seven seven nine at best speed. Ops, Launch all stand by fighters and recall the cap."
Furgus watch as the Dreadnaught focused the majority of its fire on the Grappler and the two Carracks. He cursed the rebel commander, that was exactly what he would have done and was by far the best move to make under the situation. Furgus' ship was not well suited for ship to ship action. It was a carrier by roll and had little in the way of offensive weapons. He hoped his fighters could help equalize the tactical shortcomings of his ship. The Carrack on the other hand were more than capable ship to ship vessels. And against a normal dreadnaught might be able to hold their own. But this ship was making short work of the two light cruiser.
Concentrated fire punched thru the Grapplers shields and opened her hull to space. The ship had made its turn and was moving away from the Battle. The interdictor field was no disabled and power had been diverted from the gravity well capacitors to the engine reactors pushing them one hundred and seventeen percent normal.
As the interdictor moved away the two Carracks were ablaze with blue electricity. Their ships had been overpowered by the Ion Cannons and now the two ships moved to get out of the arch’s of the ions. They pounded the cruiser with heavy turbolaser fire focusing on her engines. It was apparent now they could not out fight the ship so all they could do is out run it.

"Sir, enemy interdictor has lost its shielding, and the gravity well generators are down. Enemy Carracks are retreating, and engine shielding is at ninety-seven percent. The Gladiator had released its squadrons and is engaging." The comm blinked as the lieutenant reported in.
"Tell the freighter to escape. Concentrate half of the port turbolasers on the Interdictor's shielding. Hawk Squadron can engage the fighters. I want the other half to fire in concentrated continuous fire at the Gladiators dorsal shields. One third of the half can fire on the command bridge, the others on any weapons they can hit." Aaron watched as the bolts searched for their targets, raining deadly fire on the enemy ships, expending their energy violently on the shields. The Selfless was equipped with an extremely upgraded power generator capable of several times the normal output, making the shields extra strong and the recharge on the weapons much shorter. On top of all that, the sublight speed of the cruiser was vastly increased, making it much more maneuverable than its regular counterparts. Aaron watched as the Carracks in the distant got smaller and smaller, and the starboard batteries get less and less acurate over the long distance.
"Sir, port shielding at ninety six point eight percent." The lieutenant reported in, making Aaron smile. The Selfless' shielding had once withstood a Star Destroyer. A Gladiator would be no match. He watched as two TIEs exploded into dust as Hawk Squadron zipped around the TIEs, blasting away with their quad lasers. Hawk Squadron had been hand-picked by Aaron, and he knew he could count on them. Reaching down, he contacted Admiral Reshmar.
"Admiral, I have engaged the enemy. The freighter has succesfully hyperspaced and the Interdictor is taking damage. I am under fire from a Gladiator and two Carracks, but I'm holding out. It appears the mission will be acomplished as expected." Aaron let a slip of confidence creep into his voice. The Imperials were no match for the Rebel cruiser. Soon he would be able to settle down with another holo-drama, which would hopefully be more entertaining than the last. He shook his head at the memory, but had to shield his eyes as a bolt slammed into the command shielding, lighting up the viewport like a supernova. He watched as the shield absorbed the hit, sending the feedback to the generator.
"Missiles incoming from sector 1373!" The report rang out from the bridge as a salvo of missiles flashed towards the cruiser. The quad batteries opened fire, destroying over half the missiles. The other half slammed ineffectually against the shielding, only taking off point-eight percent. Aaron shook his head at the pitiful attack and watched as the Selfless systematically pounded the Gladiators shields into submission. Many Imperials would die, and Aaron would be a happy man.

Furgus knew this would not end well. His fighter outnumbered the rebels but the old Tie fighters were not match. Eighteen tie fighter had been destroyed costing the rebels only two. He looked over the status board as another indicator went dark. Another Tie was gone as was another of his men. The Grappler was now shield less and abandoning the ship. The Blazer and Deviant were now turning to make a run against the dreadnaught. They had cleared the ionic disruption were laying down a heavy Turbolaser barrage on the rebel cruiser. His flag was holding but her shields were at twenty percent and falling. She just did not have the firepower to take on this new cruiser.
“Comm, open a fleet wide channel.” Furgus waited until the communications officer let him know the channel was open. “This is Captain Furgus to all Imperial assists. Break contact and jump to Valc VII. We will cover your departure. If I cannot fallow Captain Gress has command. Report to Sector command.”
He motioned for the officer to cut the comm channel. The crew looked from one to the other then to Furgus. He stood silently looking out at the battle. Many good soldiers have lost their lives today. He would see to it they were not forgotten. The two remaining Carrack continued to fire on the cruiser as they turned to move away from the battle.
“Engineering, get the chief on the line.” The carrack took heavy fire from the Dreadnaught in the distance. Most of his fighters were gone and His ship was not long for this world. He had only one option. The familure voice of the chief answered engineering call. He walked calmly and pressed the transmit button on the comm transceiver.
“Chief, I need the reactor at thee hundred percent.” A long paused fallowed then the Chief answered. The tone and the fear in his voice told ever one listening on the bridge and in engineering what was going on. The comm crackled then shut off. Furgus walked back to look out at the Dreadnaught. He bowed his head then quietly spoke.
“Navigation, All power to engines. Lets give them a broadside they will never forget.”

"Sir, we are registering a massive power output increase from the Gladiator. They seem to be trying a suicide run!" Aaron could hardly hear the ensign over the distant boom of turbolaser fire, the shaking of the ship, and the klaxons wailing like so many deranged animals.
"Reroute fifty percent port and starboard weaponry power to recharge the shield generator. Take fifty percent hull and twenty percent starboard shielding. I want this ship more secure than a Nemoidians house!' Aaron yelled at the ensign as he saw the approaching ship. With an extra 170 percent charge to the shields, they would be able to handle the Gladiator's barrage, or so he hoped.
"Navigation, get us moving and take us to their port side, keeping our port to theirs. I don't want a collision with that ship. Even a drifting hull can take out a ship, so get us moving on the double!" Aaron had seen what a wrecked ship could do to another ship. The shields would overload and the two would go down in a tangle of explosions and drifting parts.
"sir, the ship is at five hundred klicks away and closing. Engines at thirty percent charge. Shields at one-hundred percent port" Aaron grimaced as the status report came in. With luck, he could get away from the Gladiator before it rammed into him or fired on him.
"Enemy ship at 450 klicks and closing. Engines at 40 percent charge and we are moving. Engines at forty five percent, enemy ship at four hundred klicks." Aaron listened as the lieutenant's voice got higher and higher as he started to panic. Aaron's stomach started to sink as the massive ship got closer and closer, the Selfless' batteries firing at the ship's port side, trying to knock out weapons and stabilizers.
"Enemy ship at 350 klicks and closing. Engines at 60 percent charge." Aaron allowed himself to relax a little as the Selfless started to move away from the approaching ship. Aaron admired the captain's courage. Knowing his ship was doomed, he was trying to disable or destroy Aaron's ship in an all-out attack. With less than a fifth of his shields, he was doomed anyways, but yet he continued to fight.
"Enemy ship at 250 klicks and closing. Engines at eighty percent charge. Ship at 230,220,210,200 klicks away. Engines at eighty five percent charge. Enemy ship at 190,180,170,160,150 klicks and closing. Engines at ninety percent charge." As the ensign reported in, Aaron smiled as the Selfless accelarated, driving hard for the port side of the Gladiator. With 300% engines, he had no hope of outrunning it. Still, space was three dimensions.
"Navigation, I want to drop below the ship and pull up when we are 100 klicks below. Shields can now be focused port-fore-dorsal." Aaron held his breath as the Selfless started to drop below the incoming ship. He glanced up again as the Gladiator's nose tilited downward, trying to intercept the Dreadnaught. More of his weapons slammed into the failing shields, desparately trying to knock out the stabilizer.
"enemy ship at 100 klicks, 90, 80,70, 60, 50 klicks away. we are approximately ten klicks below the hull and increasing." The ensign's voice was at an extremely high pitch. It was going to be a close race, and Aaron wasn't sure who was going to be the victor.

Captain Furgus stood his ground as the deck plating below him shutters from the beating the ship was taking from the dreadnaughts weapons and also from the added stress of the reactor being at critical implied. The two ships moved towards each other changing course and declination again and again to keep their game of cat and mouse going. Between the thud of the weapons on what was left of the shielding and the sound of the hull creaking with added thrust it had become hard to hear on the bridge. He saw the Deviant slow in the distance before he heard his tactical officer report she had taken a hit as her shields failed and her engines had been disabled. The Blazer was moving away at top speed and it seemed she had escaped the fate of the rest of his line.
The two ships had closed rapidly and the course changes had brought the ships within 50 meters of each other. The slim dreadnaught had performed a negative Z declination dive and was moving under the hull of his ship. This could not have turned out betters. He looked down at his command console and typed in his access code. As he entered the eighteen numbers needed to arm the destruct he thought about his family on Coruscant. His wife and daughters would know he had died serving the empire and they would collect his bereavement pay. He was a strong man but now at the end he felt tears well up. He fought them back and set the timer to 00:00:00 then pressed the button.
The line transmission took nearly half a second to travel the hundred and twenty meters to Engineering. The Hypermatter Annihilator running at three hundred percent was then shorted causing it to unleash its four times ten to the twenty first watts of into the ship. Radiation and electrical current shot up every conduit overpowering the weapons and shielding capacitors causing them to explode in a tempest of electrical energy and two thousand degree fluid. Everyone on the ship would have been dead within the other half second that preceded the core breaking down and imploding upon itself. The massive explosion consumed the entire ship slamming fragments of molten hot debris as well as the massive radiation, heat and a powerful concussion wave into the dreadnaughts shielding.
Captain Gress watched the display from the command deck of the Blazer. A ball of fire engulfed the two cruisers sending a wave of concussive energy that knocked fighters about and threw the drifting Nebulon B off towards the systems sun. A few second later wave slammed into his ship unnoticed. The shields had no problem taking the blast at this range but he knew the Alliance ships would have issues. He looked over the display one last time then turned to look at the navigation station
“Lieutenant, Take us to Hyperspace. Let get back to Valc VII.”

Aaron jumped as the Gladiator exploded. Even at 10 klicks away, the blast pounded into the Selfless, smashing into the shields. The force of the blast caught the dorsal plating and shielding, where Aaron had boosted the power. Still, at over 150% recharge on the shields, the blast simply hammered down the shields, shoving it aside like a giant hand. The Selfless rocked in space as the blast hit, and several alarms sounded along the bridge. Aaron could see his men talking frantically into their comms, receiving damage reports from multiple sectors. Aaron grimaced and nearly fell over as another blast rocked the ship, though he couldn't tell if it came from the Gladiator or from within the ship.
Damn that Imperial Captain. Aaron cursed under his breath and stared at the ensign who now made his way over to Aaron.
"Sir, sectors eleven through thirty report massive sheild failure and all sectors in tha area have taken damage. Sector seventeen has been disabled and-" The ensign was cut off as yet another explosion rocked the ship. Trying again, he said "-and power bank four has been cut off, eaving the ship running at forty percent fighting capability." Aaron listened to the report and took the ensign's words as "If the Imps attack us, we're screwed."
"Ensign, I want a status report on the hyperdrive. If it's up, I want to plot a course to the Sullustian shipyards for repairs. If the hyperdrive isn't active, get two-thirds of my men on the drive and a third on the shields in those sectors."
"Sir, the hyperdrive survived the blast and is at seventy percent capability. At this rate, we can have it repaired in the next half an hour with one third crew and fifteen minutes with two-third crew."
"Follow my orders and set up sixty percent on the hyperdrive and thirty percent on the shields, leaving ten percent for regular repairs." Aaron watched as the ensign gave a salute and wandered off, giving orders to crew members. He stared out at the black space, neatly framed by the exploding Gladiator. He hoped that any Imperials would be out of range and he would be long gone beforew their arrival, but Aaron was a man of caution. If Imperials came, he needed to be able to fight back. Glancing at his display, he saw the X-Wings were still around. They hadn't been destroyed in the battle. He would have hated to lose such fine pilots. Turning back to the blackness outside, he wondered if he could make it out alive. That Imperial had been both smart and brave, and he might have costed Aaron his life.
Half an Hour later:
"Sir, the hyperdrive is completely restored. We are on our way to the Courageous now." Aaron wiped the sweat off of his forehead. As the starlines lengthened into starlines, he relaxed and collapsed into his chair. He had beaten the Imperials and was on his way back to the Courageous alive and well. He reached up to a data pad and notched another victory for the Rebellion.
