So yes, I am shamelessly ripping off Mass Effect 3, but I long since stopped worrying about what my muse chooses to steal from.

In the whole discussion we've had about game masters and guided RP strategies, what do y'all say about small little skirmish threads we kindle between Rebel/Jedi forces vs Imperial/Sith forces? Nothing big, nothing even necessarily PvP. Things like we get 2-3 roleplayers on a "mission" that one of the RPers is responsible for writing the OPFOR angle, and they put various monkey wrenches into the apparatus as the story goes.

Already kinda getting the ball going with respect to Novgorod, but wanted to see if folks would be interested in making this A Thing

I suppose someone needs to keep you younguns out of trouble. :grumble

Participating as Vansen would probably be tricky what with the Wheel and all, but I've still got <s>Captain Sisko</s> Soto Terius to play with, so I'd definately be up for something like this.

Thought about doing something similar-ish but just with the Inquisitoriate from a grunt's POV.

Having not played Mass Effect, I'm a little lost here, are you guys talking specifically about fleeting?

My brain was fried when I read it initially - I think Charley may actually be referring to ground combat, but my brain read it as fleeting.

I would assume that either option is viable though?

Yeah, I understand this to mean small scale skirmishes, primarily ground based but also fleet based if people are interested in that.

Any and all sorts. Small being the key word

I think in the Assault on Sarapin thread we were going to do something similar:

We had several different groups involved in a huge ground war, but each group (2-3 people) were doing their own small mission within the greater scheme of things.

However we did have two opposing sides rather than a group of RPers and a GM running the show.

What Charley is suggesting (I think) is similar to what Telan and I did pre-reset to train up new people for fleeting/ground command. We'd present a scenario and have the person/people start the thread out however the heck they wanted...and then the rest of us would throw the occasional post in to through a wrench in their plans.

Was more a way to teach people what 'within reason' and 'common sense' meant in PvP style fleeting/ground combat.

Different purposes here but similar concept.

I think the GM aspect is maybe what was missing from the Dorn Force stuff we did. Since there wasn't an adversary posting periodically to keep things ticking over, it fell on everyone else to propel the narrative along... maybe with a GM throwing out situations for us to react to, it'd help keep the pacing up?

Something similar might work for the likes of Rogue Squadron, too: we've perhaps tried to involve too many people in a single thread in the past, whereas we might get on better if we're focusing on just a handful of pilots in each thread (a la Battlestar Galactica?), with the rest being largely NPCs. In the EU, Rogue Squadron eventually became "Rogue Group": maybe we could do something similar so that individual characters can be more important, and make it easier to explain away some BSG style Rogue mission skirmishes?
