The countries are still just picking their entrants. The semi finals are May 22nd /24th so we find out after then who has wangled their way into the final.

There are no new participant countries since last year, though a couple have pulled out.

I can see Denmark doing pretty well. They've got that kind of inoffensive, middle-of-the-road pop-rock type song that seems to appeal to a broad spectrum of people.

A lot of the other entrants so far have a much more dance/club type feel to them: nothing wrong with that, but maybe the average Eurovision viewer is a little too old for that kind of thing? They're appealing to a younger audience, but I'm not sure how many younger people will actually be watching/voting - surely they'll be out riding their bicycles, and playing with their Gameboys, or whatever it is that young people do these days?

Belarus and Malta I like solely for that they....y'know...have bands that play their own music. This whole light pop-rock thing is kinda boring me to tears, though.

Israel has this pseudo-oldies thing going on that is interesting and different at least.

Austria shot themselves in the foot with that crap.

Macedonia's I really like as well.

Sweden had my thinking "Sweet!" and then the techno-pop kicked in on the chorus and I got bored.

Norway.......is that an attempt at a male version of Lady Gaga? Catchy for clubbing music and different enough to to bore me. I can see this one doing well.

Denmark, this one by far is the best I've seen.

My point was more a political one than anything based on artistic merit. Greece can't afford to host next yer.

As always in Eurovision, the hierarchy of things that win are grain alcohol > politics > caucasus nations > eastern european nations > scandinavian nations > the quality of music > anglophones
