Got the results .... not too bad! 906th out of 7345, average time was 1h11, I went 56min.
Not complaining for someone who actively hates running.
Also attempting 1000kms on the bike this month. 132km down!

Great job, Mark! Warrior Dash has obstacles, right? That always seems to me that it sort of destroys your chances of actually being as fast as you can because at most of them you have to wait to go through the obstacle.
Darth Turbogeek
Jun 4th, 2013, 08:57:11 PM
Yeah, 13 obstacles. I did manage to get ahead of the group I was in at the second mud obstacle so I had a fairly good run. I caught the group in front but it was thin enough that I could pick my way through those working themselves up to try an obstacle.

In fitness related news I dug out my old clothes that I save from my college days (dresses, mostly, some shirts) and they ALL FIT.
I'm still 13 lbs off my end goal which sort of blows my mind that I'm fitting into size 6s that I used to wear when I was 135-140 and I'm 153 lbs. Admittedly I wouldn't necessarily wear any of these out yet because they're still a little too tight in some areas, but they all went on and zipped up, the whole nine yards.
Also I deadlifted 165lbs today, so I'm lifting more than I weigh. :D

NICE job, Mark! I was supposed to do the Warrior Dash, but they up and changed the location from a 40 min drive to a 3.5 HOUR drive...so I promptly got my money back on that one.
Way to go H! That's pretty awesome :) Do you still workout in the evenings?
I've decided I really like rowing...

I'm now 78 kgs and I'm fitting into things like jeans that I last wore when I was more like 70kgs - that was before I was on 'Fans! - I am noticably carrying more muscle. Also noted I have a lower body fat percentage than the last time I was at 78kgs - there's a good 6% difference. (20.7 for right now verses 26%)
Most of the difference of course is in the legs which are.... well getting defined and big just exactly like a cyclist. While I'd like to reach 75.9 kgs I'm no longer really bothered.
528kms this month already

I'm still careful with what I eat (still at minus 19-20 kg in comparison to 2 years ago), and had started to regain more muscles, but yesterday I decided to get back into working out, so abs in the morning and yoga in the evening. I hope I can stick to that, as I missed working out but really had to kick myself back into it. :D

Well the "This is not trending well" tests of earlier this year been done again and it's..... interesting what getting serious about fitness does. Blood pressure still a touch high but coming down. Cholesterol is now 5.2 (was over 6) with HDL at 1, but most interesting is the blood suger tests show I'm back in a healthy range again - I was showing the signs of insulin resistance and out of normal blood sugar levels. Heart rate also normal.
Where I was a year ago was 10-15% chance of developing heart problems, now it's 4%. Doctor set my target weight at 73kgs and diet changes to get cholesterol back to 4. Oh and do resistance training in with the absurd cycling I like to do
Doesnt matter how old, it's not too late to press reset and get fit!

3,563 calories burned and the heart rate monitor calculates an average of 155watss for the entire ride, Peaking at 473watts over a minute.

I'm working a bodybuilding routine right now, still incorporating the big lifts to maintain my gains at the very least while cutting the last few pounds. I got pretty lax on my calorie counting over the last month so I'm buckling down now and trying to keep at it. I bumped back to 154 or so, need to get down to at least 145. I'm judging on my belly fat though, that's the last piece of the puzzle. If I'm slim and fit the clothes I want to wear I don't care what I weigh. At this point it's just belly pudge keeping me out of clothes I wore in college, and I weigh about 15 lbs more than I did then. Hee hee

I was feeling a bit ratshit (A LOT ratshit!), gimme a bit of time :)
Okay, I'm a pretty decent swimmer, a very good cyclist and a simply shithouse runner. So I got two out of three covered right?
The weather was also awful - coldest November in 50 years, colder than winter! Raining too. However the water was actually warmer than the air so the swim was probably the warmest palce to be! Started at the back of the bunch as I intended to take the swim easy, settled into a good pace.... and found myself runnign over other competitors who didnt have my representive race history. That got things difficult esp with water being kicked up. Breaking rhythm and trying to re-establish my swim stroke was *hard*!
When I reached the end of hte lake, found myself about mid field .... and unable to stand up! Apparently this happens a fair bit in triathlons. Took me a bit to climb out of the water, limped to transition (much too slowly) and switched to cycle mode. Fucked up transition but once I got into the cycle I overtook a bunch of people and got overtaken by guys on some serious race bikes, picked up the tail of a time trial bike and was going at 40ish Kph till I ripped them up a hill, got back to transition, had a better transition to run and.....suffered badly. Until I decided to pick up and chase the hells of a better runner, where I surprised myself and did a sub 6:00 km.
Was utterly soaked, and exhausted, threw up when I crossed the line. Did okay tho, seems to be mid field. I can def cut about five minutes with better transitions and some work on having legs when I leave the swim. Swim turned out better than expect, cycle was on par, run did a LOT better than I thouht I would.
Entered another one mid December :D - it was a lot of fun!

I'm trying to work out how this happened but it appears I only lost my age cateogry due to spending five minutes in unco-ordinated and inexperienced transitions (Fair enough, I knew they would be terrible. I spent a total of 7 minutes in transition verses the average of three). On every single actual leg (swim/cycle/run) I did the fastest time for my age group ( male or female)
Huh? Swim dubious but possible, cycle yep that's very understandable but RUN????
Still was 17 minutes slower than the winner.

Yep, looking ripped there allright
I know a lot of casual cyclists just think a bike is a bike but there's a lot more to it than that. When you get to the performance level I'm on ....... it gets expensive. I have two wheel sets, one is a cheaper but more aero set with low rolling resistance tyres and latex tubes for max sustained speed, the other..... is about as good as you can get without going to a full carbon fibre wheel. Cost me 1300 with top of the line Chris King hubs on a hand built (much higher spoke tension for absolutly no loss of power when pedalling) Mavic OpenPro rim. The difference? On a shop wheelset, I can sustain 41-44 kph flat stick in the best conditions for three minutes (35kph a hour sustained for an hour). The new wheelset, despite being less aero I saw with some considerable surprise last night ... I was sustaining 55 to 65 kph for three minutes.
I'll go for an hour time this week.
My 10km time trail time dropped by 5 minutes. That's huge for a resonably good cyclist. Money well spent.... !
Oh and then there's the carbon fibre shoes, the more aero kevlar helmets..... never stops!
Also looked at the heart rate data for the cycle leg of the triathlon.... 96% of leg in the 90%+ heart rate zone. Only was below 160bpm for 10 seconds.

Just proves you need to do another one, obviously! Great job.
Guess what I did today - yep another one! Swim was about the same (Maybe a bit quicker), I had a Tour de France level bike this time so the bike leg was very quick.... and the run went really well, I managed it in under 6:00 min km pace and even was doing 5:00 min pace at the end.
Seems like I cut 8 minutes off my November time too. 3 minutes on the run and 2 minutes on the cycle, the rest was much faster transitions. Pretty good!
I am committing to a 70.3 Ironman in November next year. That's gonna suck hard. Well.... the run will, not seeing the swim and esp the cycle as being too bad. 1.9km swim, 90km bike, .......21 km run -_-
