Well, the long rumoured SW live action TV series finally has a name: http://www.themarysue.com/star-wars-underworld/

So it is basicly HBO's Sopranos with Hutts... just kidding
I like this working title.
Now the show needs a strong cast like Game of Thrones that could actually deliver a dark SW setting. My biggest fear is that their 5 million episode budget is not entirely spent on effects so that we end up with an army of actors like Jake Lloyd and Haiden Christianson.

While this should make me excited, I have to hold myself back considering the dross Lucas has produced in more recent years. It really comes down to who is handling the actual production. If Lucas is manning the helm again then I do not have much hope for this series should it ever make it to the light of day. However, if Lucas takes more of a backseat then this could very well be the greatest thing ever. A five million dollar budget per hour episode sounds pretty fantastic. Focusing on the underworld of Star Wars is a new direction considering all the films have focused on battlefield heroes and the force. It could be a refreshing change.
Lucas has a reputation for ruining his own creation. Anyone who has watched the Red Letter Media reviews of the Star Wars movies knows just how bad the original trilogy would have been had Lucas gotten his every whim.

A series about smugglers and bounty hunters could be kinda cool. They could adapt the Coruscant Nights series: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Coruscant_Nights_I:_Jedi_Twilight

Part of me hopes that they don't feature a Jedi; or if they do, part of me hopes that they aren't the central character.
By the time A New Hope rolls around, the universe has stopped believing in the Force. Between "Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes" and "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side", there's this vibe that no one really believes in the Force anymore.
I'd rather see a show that is more in that vein: where if there are Jedi, they're all bitter, broken, and in hiding. Having a Jedi fill Shepard's role from Firefly could be interesting - where being a Jedi is some mysterious and secret part of his past - but I really hope they stay away from the hokey religions this time around.

Let's face it. We're all hoping this turns out something like Firefly.

I think the most important question is who is going to direct and write those episodes. I am not really buying the idea that they already have scripts for 50 episodes. I guess they have got 50 more or less good plot ideas or their scripts have been written by Lucas himself but I hope they will be revised by people who have got more experience in writting for TV then.
In my mind the most awesome collaboration would be if Lucas would be trying to get directers like Joss Whedon, Tarantino and Kevin Smith as guest directers and that he would move Dave Filloni from the Clone Wars show to underworld once Clone Wars has told its part of the story.

P much!
Maybe with a little more of a noir-ish twist.

I keep telling myself not to get excited over this... But a series revolving around the criminal underworld of SW? That just calls my name in all sorts of ways
