Droo was saying the other day that he's put a lot of thought into the backstories of his various characters, so he can explain why they will all have the same surname / Legacy name. I've also noticed that even the hardcore gamers have started picking conversation options that suit their characters: not necessarily the ones that will help them accrue dark side points and unlock that super special awesome hat at Level 50, or whatever it is that alignment does.

Being the kind of people that we are, I figured that pretty much all of us would have put some thought into the backgrounds for our characters. Even if we don't get around to roleplaying as any of these characters, I thought it might still be interesting to share what we've cooked up for them: and it also doubles up as a handy list of who plays who, for friend request adding purposes and what have you.

Post your character outlines below, and I'll edit them into one of my classically over-complicated index hyperlink list doodads in this post. Unless told otherwise, I'll assume that all Sith characters are on Scepter of Ragnos, and all Republic characters are on Lord Calypho. :)

Procyon - Imperial Agent (Sniper)

Since his early childhood, Assi'raas'samiyah dreamed of being a pilot. Unfortunately, Siraas grew up in the xenophobic shadow of the Sith Empire, and was never able to get past the admission policies of the Imperial Navy. His lucky break came when his frequently-declined applications were noticed by Imperial Intelligence. They recruited him as an Agent; since then, he has been known only as Agent Procyon.

Despite the Empire's attitudes towards him, Procyon is unquestionably loyal. Rather, he is completely loyal to the Imperial regime and it's military infrastructure: he regards the religious aspects of the Sith with a mix of ignorance and suspicion.

Potential Roleplay Notes

Procyon was originally paired with Agent Bellatrix; but after a heavily-classified mission that presumably went quite badly wrong, the two were given new assignments. Procyon's current partner is Luyten Star; he is also aided by a rag-tag ensemble of non-humans who have found themselves on the bad side of the Empire's anti-alien attitudes. They comprise the crew of Procyon's ship - an X-70B Phantom that was originally named Blackbird, but that has since been redubbed the Auu Lanu Lau'ava in deference to Procyon's native tongue.

Shodan - Sith Inquisitor (Sorcerer)

The ill-begotten offspring of a Rattataki slave and a human taskmaster, Shodan was - like so many of her species - born into a life of oppression. Her early years were made up of equal parts back-breaking labor and public humiliation. Plucked from this life of drudgery and given the chance to earn an apprenticeship under Lord Zash of Korriban, she quickly embraced the teachings of the Sith and eliminated all of her opponents, earning herself the title of Sith Apprentice.

Though the Empire is eager to make use of her talents, they have never allowed her to forget that she is an alien. Consequently, she does not feel true loyalty to the Empire. Like all true Sith, her loyalty is always to herself.

Shodan is accompanied at all times by the monstrous Khem Val, a Dashade who once served the legendary Sith Lord Tulak Hord. Subdued by Shodan's superior strength and command of the Dark Side, Khem Val begrudgingly accepted the 'little Sith' (as he calls her) as his master.

Akhir - Bounty Hunter (Powertech)

Born in a scummy, relatively unheard of settlement on Tatooine, Akhir An-Nahr was orphaned after his parents became "collateral damage" in a scuffle between rival gangs. He was adopted by a local thug; after demonstrating a flair for technological wizardry and causing explosions he was groomed into a gang enforcer, his unofficial guardian hoping to use him as a bargaining tool to leverage his way into the upper echelons of Tatooine crime.

As Akhir grew older his responsibilities as an enforcer grew with him: he found himself employed by a Hutt who had aspirations of expanding his influence beyond Tatooine, and so Akhir found himself travelling to foreign worlds to make his Hutt's presence felt. While supervising an important deal on Nar Shaddaa, the Hutt's men were attacked by thugs from a rival Crime Lord: the Hutt lost a considerable amount of credits, and placed the blame squarely on Akhir's shoulders. Fighting his way off-planet, Akhir took his killing skills and set himself up as a freelance mercenary and bounty hunter.

Potential Roleplay Notes

Akhir escaped Hutta with the help of Rana, a Houk whose ship - the Eridani - now ferries Akhir around the galaxy. A young woman named Kursa assists AKhir in gathering information on his targets, as well as patching up his frequent injuries and managing his accounts - the latter with the help of Nate (C2-N8), Akhir's protocol droid. Akhir has also managed to earn the loyalty of a Mandalorian named Zaurak, who assists Akhir when extra guns are needed.

Leonis - Trooper (Commando)

Just a kid from Corellia, Cor Leonis was the son of a Republic soldier who grew up in the shadow of the Great Galactic War. He watched friends and elder siblings join the military and risk their lives for the Republic, but was too young to follow in his father's footsteps. So determined to conscript he spent his savings buying falsified identity information, but was caught: fortunately an Army Captain old friend of his father's took pity on him, and offered him a job as his "personal clerk" - though the soldiers in the Captain's unit preferred to think of him as the "cabin boy".

Leonis followed the Company to several worlds, and saw more action than was technically permissable by regulations. By the time the Captain and his men participated in the Battle of Dantooine, Leonis had picked up enough to make himself genuinely useful.

After the Treaty of Coruscant was signed, Leonis was sent off to the Academy with a letter of recommendation for his distinguished conduct. He graduated as an assault specialist near the top of his class, and eventually found himself leading a small team as a Sergeant in the Republic's Special Forces Command.

Potential Roleplay Notes

Sergeant Leonis and his team were deployed to Ord Mantell, and were placed under the operational command of Lieutenant Dana Citra - a Republic Vanguard. They participated in a number of operations, but were caught out by bad intelligence during an assault on a Separatist stronghold, and suffered heavy casualties. Only Leonis, Citra, and the team's young rookie - a Cathar Ensign named Deneb Aleet (or "Denny Elite", as one of their team mates insisted) - survived.

Maisan - Jedi Consular (Sage)

A Miraluka, Al-Maisan showed a strong connection to the Force even from a very early age. However, while he had the potential to become a great warrior for the Jedi Order had he set his mind to it, he was a victim of his curiosity. He studied Jedi teachings and philosophies extensively, and while he was very much a student of the light, he developed a reputation as something of an arrogant know-it-all.

Al-Maisan developed a firm friendship with another Padawan, Na'ir al Saif. Na'ir shared his unrelenting curiosity, but his was born out of a desire to reconsile his Jedi teachings with his Mandalorian heritage. Their combined search eventually led them to study the history of Revan, and while Al-Maisan shied away from the knowledge out of fear of the Dark Side, Na'ir openly embraced it. Their friendship crumbled, and Na'ir ultimately left the order, 'defecting' to the Sith Empire in the hopes of understanding the Force in it's entirity, and not just the Jedi's secularised view.

Feeling betrayed by his closest friend, Al-Maisan dedicated himself to the restoration of the Jedi Order, hoping that through his actions they could rebuild the relationship between the Order and the Republic, before anyone else was lost to the Sith.

Potential Roleplay Notes

As a Padawan, Al-Maisan's Master was a Zabrak named Aoul Dzira.

Al-Maisan developed a close friendship with Avis Satyra - a Mirialan smuggler - and her crew. He paid particular attention to Azrin Koine, hoping that by redeeming one Mandalorian, he could make up for failing Na'ir.

Ensis - Sith Warrior (Juggernaut)

Though he now goes by the name Ensis, he was born Na'ir al Saif. His parents were Mandalorian, and both died while attempting to prove their honour by confronting a Jedi Knight. Na'ir was left orphaned and, after the Jedi released that he was Force Sensitive, he was brought back to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Given the history between the Jedi Order and the Mandalorians, the Jedi Council was reluctant to see young Na'ir trained as a Jedi. The Knight who had found him - Shen Xiusi - argued that it was unjust to condemn a mere infant for acts that he was too young to even comprehend; the Council eventually agreed to his training, but on the condition that Na'ir was not to know of his true heritage.

Unforunately for the Jedi, Na'ir eventually discovered the truth. Rather than react with rage as the Council had feared however, he responded with curiosity, hoping to learn about the philosophies of the Mandalorians, and find a way to reconsile those with what he had learned as a Jedi. His studies saw him become close to Al-Maisan, an equally curious fellow Jedi. However, as Na'ir learned about the Mandalorians, he also learned of Revan: a Jedi who had been both light and dark. The Council forbade him from pursuing that avenue of research, but that only made Nai'ir more determined.

Eventually, Na'ir's studies forced a confrontation between him and Al-Maisan. They battled aboard the Ascendant; but while Al-Maisan felt duty-bound to defeat his friend, Na'ir refused to do the same. He incapacitated Al-Maisan, escaped the ship, and fled to Imperial space hoping that he could gain the knowledge he sought at the Sith Academy on Korriban.

Potential Roleplay Notes

Na'ir chose his new name based on some of the final words he and Al-Maisan exchanged. The name translates as "sword"; Al-Maisan told him that: "The Mandalorians live by the sword, and now you will die by mine."

While at the Academy on Korriban, Ensis convinced four students that the path of the Sith was perhaps not the one for them. When Ensis was granted a ship (the Vindicator) they sought refuge aboard, and one - Meissa - eventually became his Apprentice.

Satyra - Smuggler (Gunslinger)

Though she has no idea where she was born, Avis Satyra frankly doesn't care. She grew up on the streets of Nar Shaddaa, but the only place she has ever felt at home is aboard her ship. There are many schools of thought on why that is - some believe that Satyra is only ever happy when she is in charge, but her first mate and mechanic Dxun Kira insists that it is because the Hakudo Maru is the only home she's ever had with enough space to store her ridiculous collection of shoes.

While not necessarily ruthless, Satyra views life as if it were a string of business transactions: sometimes the credits you get are karma, and sometimes the cargo is emotional baggage; but no matter how hard to navigate the course is, or how many hazards there are in the way, there is no way in hell she will fail to complete on her end of the bargain. As a result she has a somewhat objective and logical perspective on things, particularly when it comes to the morality and legality of her actions.

Potential Roleplay Notes

Satyra's ship has a modest crew: Dxun Kira (his real name is Muphrid; Dxun was the name of a family pet, and he decided it sounded much cooler and more befitting a spacer) is her copilot and mechanic; Alhena Daze is their resident medic and optimist; and Barbacca is an uncharacteristically pacifist and religious Wookiee. Satyra has also hired a disgraced Mandalorian - Azrin Koine - who serves as her gunner and added muscle as and when required.
