I was curious if anyone here at Fans played League of Legends?
For those who are not familiar with the game, it's a free to play MOBA-Style game. MOBA stands for "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena" and is the basis for such games as Warcraft 3's Defense of the Ancients as well as other newer games such as Demigod and Rise of the Immortals. The game is based around pitting teams of 5, or 3, "champion" characters against each other in fast and furious organized teamplay with the objective of whittling down the enemy team's defenses and destroying their base. League of Legends has already established itself as one of the top eSports games and presently is played in tournaments around the world, as well as winning numerous gaming awards, such as numerous Golden Joystick awards for best Free to play game.
Personally, I love this game to pieces. It's one of the few games I've ever gotten really into and I recommend it to anyone. A lot of MMO players really enjoy this game and just about anyone I've introduced this game to has loved it. The game can be incredibly complicated depending on how deep into it you want to get. Strategy runs deep, as does teamplay. The only downside the game presents is that because of the free nature of the game it's full of trolls, ragers, and other unfavorable gamers that will ruin your game and your day. However, it is possible to leave these smucks behind as the game as ranking systems for both it ranked and non-ranked play.
The game does boast premium content in the form of alternate skins for the characters and "Boosts" such as experience point and influence point (the main game currency) boosts. However, one thing to note about this game is that none of the premium content breaks the game. Nothing you can buy with real money can give you an advantage. Everything in the game, other then skins, are unlockable without paying a dime. You gain in-game currency just for winning that can be used to buy champions and runes. The game is a little more unique compared to other MOBA games like Dota, andHeroes of Newerth in that it has a player leveling system, a "Mastery" system similar to talents found in MMOs, and a rune system. Runes are purchasable items that you can fit to a page and use to boost your champion. This adds an extra level of strategy and complexity by moving the game past just picking a champion. In game you buy items from a vendor after getting gold from killing waves of minions and enemy champions. You start each match at level 1 and level up to 18, getting a total of 4 different moves with 5 ranks each in the first 3 and 3 ranks in the last "ultimate" move. This champion system should be familiar to anyone who's played Warcraft 3.
The game can be found here: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/
If you feel like playing I would be much obliged if you signed up using this link: http://signup.leagueoflegends.com/?ref=4ba325666952c seeing as the game has a referral system of rewards.
The game is free, you lose nothing for trying it out, and I think it's a jolly good time and I always can do with more people to play with. My usual group of players have either lost interest, don't have the time, or are playing Skyrim :/
