I will just add a picture of Gareth and of one of the participants to get you in the right mood on sunday.

The picture of Gareth shows the City of Light painted from the imperial palace's point of view. Gareth is called the "City of 100 Temples". If you look in the background you will know why.

The other picture shows a knight in full plate ready for jousting.

Because there are ten temples and the bards exaggerate everything by a factor of ten? :)

On the whole, I find ventrilo or teamspeak preferable alternatives to skype, but it depends on what software people have. I have a teamspeak server we can use if it comes to that. (Close personal friend owns and runs the server 24/7, pretty much)

Either that, or something hurling / lacrosse like. I think it mentioned that the ball was made of cork, and that you scored points for hitting the crossbar, so there's probably a lot more off-the-ground action than your typical field hockey game.

Meanwhile there's intrigues afoot between some whispering involving the fact that Oddlybird knew too much, and that Tim is observing a spat between the Court Sorcerer and Dexter SomethingOrOther, the Praios inquisitor.

Banhammer is looking dapper and looking for any trouble, and Saidra is keeping an eye out too.

The still young emperor is the only son of Reto of Gareth, who claimed the throne for himself when he caught his cousines Cella and Bardo having incest in the royla palace. Unlike under Retro's rule Hal has brought years of peace and prosperity to the empire through diplomacy. Some consider him a weak ruler because of his intrest in art, architecture and music.
Malicious gossip has it that due to the demand of money for wardrobe that is required to keep up with Hal's balls and opera visits the noble men in aventuria simply do not have enough money to raise armies for being at each others throats again.

He is the 16 year old son of Emperor Hal and will soon be married to princess Emer Ni Bennain. A lot of people see his grandfathers face and temper in him. The intrigues at his fathers court bore him that is why he ran of many times. One of his most infamous adventures is that he participated in the race for the Thunder Storm Chariot under false name where he nearly won the chariot if there had not been an assassination attempt on him during the last part of the race.

The people love him because of his directness and honesty while the noblemen of Gareth's court fear for the day of his crowning because of his lack of etiquettes.

Princess Emer Ni Bennain of Albernia

Is the daughter of Cuanu Ui Bennain. Some bards and painters call her the most beautifull princess in the whole middle realm. Although she is one year older than Brin she is about to become the princess of the whole middle realm. Her engagement is not offical yet but it is an open secret in all of Gareth by now. Unlike other women of her age in Aventuria she is still a girl at heart and so she is excited to marry the bold young prince of Gareth.

As a descendant of a long bloodline of Albernian kings he and his father fought against Emperor Reto to free Albernia from the empire so that his house could rule Albernia as kings again. When Reto's Rebellion was over his house returned under the Emperors peace. In the years to come relations between the house of Gareth and Bennain improved while the people of Albernia still cried for independance due to the high taxes from Gareth.
In a move to earn more influence in Gareth Cuanu has suggested a marriage between his daughter and the only son of the House of Gareth. He hopes that an Albernian princess in the highest office of the middle realm might make his people forget about Gareth's oppression...
...but so far his stay in Gareth was not a pleasent one.

A descendant of one of the great houses of Gareth and as the count of Wehrheim (translated Arm's Home) he is one of the most influential people at the court of Gareth. Not only is he the count of the city that has the Middle Realms biggest garrison, he also serves the Emperor himself as the Middle Realm's Chancellor. He earned this office during the siege of Tuzak where he as a squire defended Emperor Reto's favorite horse against Rebels from Maraskan.
He is liked by the people because many believe that the chancellor is responsible for the years of peace while the Emperor and the noblemen of Gareth just spent most of their time at balls and in the opera.

Galotta the court wizard has always been considered as a prodigy in magical matters. Few would believe that a man of his looks is older than 29 or 30 but he has served the court of Gareth already under Reto and while he watched many noble die of age his looks have remained the same ever since the day he showed up at the stairs of the Imperial Palace. Little is known about his past before that day. So his true age is still a miracle.
He is one of the Emperor's most important advicers but as of late he feels more like the Emperor's jester than a person of real power. The days where he gave military advice to Reto are long over and most of his current services involve creating beautiful illusions and removing wrinkles from faces of wealthy noblewoman.

Only a few people become an urban legend while they are still alive but Dexter Nemrod is one of them. If children in Aventuria behave naughty they get told to behave otherwise Dexter Nemrod will take them away. Dexter Nemrod's career always knew only one way: In the ranks of the Order of Praios' Banray and in the Lionsguard he climbed faster than anyone before him.
Emperor Reto was impressed by the young man with the voice like a graveyard and made him one of his most valued military advicers. Later under Hal he found the Imperial Garethian Information Agency(IGIA). Little is known about the agents and inquisiters of the Empire but many rumors about them circulate about them all over Aventuria.

The common people call him a superstitous old man but little do they know about the things that he has seen that caused his white hair in the first place. Being the grand inquisiter is not only a title for him but a mission. Sometimes he is missing at court for days or months and then returns with an even more grim look on his face. Some people say that he has already banned more demons from this world than the dark wizard Borbarad has summoned during the War of Mages.

Today he is next to Answin and Galotta Emperor Hal's most important advicer.

All that I will say is that he is infamous for carrying two magic swords "Answer" and "Vengeance" that he took from the Bloodtwins during the siege of Tuzak. He is a good friend of Cuanu Ui Bennain and serves as a judge during the tournametn.

Kunibald dislikes the Albernians because one of his brothers fell through the sword of Albernian during Reto's Rebellion. He is married to Answin's favorite cousine which has lead to strong bounds between the two men. He servers at the court of Emperor hal as the realms seneshal.

Just a clarify on what happened to me in the last session: I auditioned for the starring role in the next Assassin's Creed game by getting chased across the rooftops in my leather pants. Before that cunning stunt, I discovered that a street urchin had overheard the sound of Oddlybird's quill scritch-scratching as he wrote down his quite-possibly-very-controversial song (a courtly feast with a sack of yeast). He didn't back the damn thing up so the only copy appears to have been stolen/burned/stolen and burned.

So after the band had stopped the four assassins from killing Kurth, the old hag that lured him into this trap in the first place tried to take off but Kurth grabbed her at her hair and made her fall on the butt.

She begged for mercy and told Kurth that she was hired by a man in the uniform of Kunibald from Honorstone hired her and her four sons to look for people that would be asking about a missing button. She thought that they could eliminate Kurth before he could share his knowledge.
Then she offered Kurth even more information if the group would allow her to leave with her three more or less alive sons. Kurth asked her for her family name and she replied that it is "Haubacher". Then Kurth swore an oath that if he ever sees her and her family again in Gareth he would hunt down everyone with her family name not only her sons.

She consented to these conditions and told the group that word is on the street that men of Kunibald's personal guard are trying to purchase a rare tasteless Tulamid poison at an alchemist in Gareth. The shelf life of the poison is only three days.

So and then Kurth let her go while a lot of anger remained in his stomach.

Has anyone spent some time and thought on how to end this campaign so that the outcome would be "EPIC".

I caught myself 3 times this week lying in my bed still awake trying to predict what you guys will be doing next and how I will react to that.

In the past few sittings you came up with solutions that I did not prepare for the campaign and I was just making things up again as we went while triggering some events here and there that I scripted ahead of time.

I am excited and thrilled how you want to stop the assassination of the prince without bringing yourself into trouble. The time and the place where you will act will be crucial since I have established a timeline for the whole week this adventure takes place in and so missing a certain event might jeopardize the whole outcome.

Once we are done with this adventure I will probably show you where you totaly flew under the radar, where you hit certain "scripted" events, which ones you missed and where I was just making things up on the go.

I guess I will go into the next sitting with a blank script and see what is going to happen next. I will be more excited than you guys since I have no idea how it is going to end.

Just to check I'm reading this right:

When I want to increase a skill that I already have ("Axes and Maces"), I need to find the TP number (+8) in column X, and find where that meets the appropriate category (D). So... to increase "Axes and Maces" by one point it would cost 39 points?

However, if I wanted to give Glen a Ride skill (which he doesn't have), that's a Physical Talent (D again) for a Level 1 character... so spending 3 points would unlock the Ride skill with +0 TP? It would then cost another 3 points to increase that from +0 to +1, and so on?

Two follow-up questions:

If I buy a new level of "Axes and Maces", what impact does that have? I'm guessing that either my AV or PV will increase by 1... do I get to pick which, or are there specific ratios of AV:PV that I have to stick to?

Stuff like shields, armour, parrying weapons... do they fit into this table somehow, or is that a separate list?

I loved the scale of things. Dealing with all those bigwigs made it feel like we were doing something properly awesome (and that we're going to wind up with a badass reputation as a result); and the fact that we kept coming up against enemies that nearly beat the shit out of us made it seem more realistic.

I'm not normally a fan of splitting the party, bit it worked out really well - especially with the skype/hangout format. We were probably a bit too disorganised and scatterbrained for something with as strict a timetable as the tournament, but having the "mini-games" with the tournament competitions along the way was awesome.

I don't like it, but I've got to respect you for how effectively you put the fear of GM into us. :lol

I used my skills a lot more than I ever have in P&P before as well. Maybe some more skill challenges might work out well in the next one - whether that's disabling a trap, bluffing our way out of a tight spot, or constructing a rudimentary cannon to fight off (while shirtless) an alien lizard.

I thought I had replied to this but apparently I haven't, doh!

My fav parts of the adventure were getting to use our skills in scenarios like sneaking into the alchemists house. I like combat but its more fun when it's broken up with skill related stuff, like when we were fighting to break the spell that had us all beating each other up in the 1st adventure.

Personally I like it when we split up, because it normally leads to hilarious consequences, although it does mean at times that people are left doing nothing for a little while (see: Rhone)
