Since making spreadsheets to pull information out of tables and what-not used to be part of my job, I've built a little tool in Excel to calculate skill points. You can get it by going here (https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B_Rr_ADREkdgQVVNVnczV0V0Y1E) and hitting CTRL+S (or going File > Download).

To use it, type in the letter for the skill you want to level; the current number of skill points you have; and the number of skill points you want to end up with. For example, I want to level up Glen's Sneak skill. Sneak is a Physical Talent (D), and he currently has 4 points. I want to increase it to 8, so those are the values I pick in the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet tells me this will cost 121 XP.

Using Peter's table, I can see that it will cost 22 points to increase to 5; another 27 (49) to reach 6; another 33 (82) to reach 7; and a final 39 (121) to reach 8.

I would have done fancy drop down boxes and things, but I don't know what version of Excel/OpenOffice people are using. If everyone is capable of opening .xlsx files (Excel 2007 or newer), then I can pimp the file out a bit more.

PS.
If the skill isn't on your character sheet yet (Ride, anyone? :uhoh), then you need to put "X" as your current level. This will add in the activation cost as well. :)

Update: This is Glen a man of Thorwal

The first sheet is for Jace you can fill out the blanks on the first page. Your character has not been blooded yet so your current level is 1 and you do not have any adventure points...this will change soon enough

Talking about blooded: The next sheet belongs to our Knight pf Praios aka Charley Brokensword.

I have increased your combat skills in sword fighting and jousting and I added points to your knowledge of arcane things because you do not want to make the same mistake twice...

This one fears no blood curse since it is Brian Rhone Banhammer. Some bards will later sing that his blood consisted of more beer than blood so blood curses could not affect him.

I made you even more awesome with your axe and put some more points into sneak.

He barely survived the last adventure but this has made Tim the Wizzard just more experienced.
He now knows how to handle his staff better and on his way to Gareth he has picked up a new spell that allows him to throw fire lances at his enemies. He can use as many D6 as skill points he has got in this spell for damage.

Saidra has shown us already that she is a woman you do not want to mess with. She is a thief that knows how to steal your purse as well as piercing you with her rapier.

I skilled her combat skills and her more social talents like flirting and dancing since I think Sarah wants to give her a more femme fatal appearence that will eventually lead to broken hearts and empty treasure chests at the capital.

Dasquian the Elf is a man that I fear. He will sneak up on you in the dark. You can try to hide in the shadows but he will see you with his elven eyes. His bow is deadly but don't cheer when he runs out of arrows. This is the time he will start throwing magic missiles at you.

Like I did with Saidra I increased his social skills and the magic missile skill.

I have scoured my library looking for an appropriate name for a fearsome warrior of Thorwal: the kind of name that will make monsters tremble, women swoon, and husbands weep; the kind that will strike fear into the hearts of his enemies, and hope into the hearts of his comrades.

In all of Norse mythology, there was only one name (http://www.pantheon.org/articles/g/glen.html) that I knew could do exactly that.

Fear me, for I am Glen! >D

So, Glen... *peers over half-moon spectacles* what do you think you can bring to the team?

I am a man of Thorwal: battle is in my blood, and ale flows through my veins. In all my years no man, woman, nor magical beast has ever bested me in a contest of constitution and consumption; nor have I ever been defeated in the drunken brawl that inevitably follows.

Even on my worst day, I am more mighty a warrior than you sheltered Men of South could ever aspire to be; though if your fettish is for humiliation and futility, you are more than welcome to test your mettle against mine. All I ask is that you refrain from tears when my axe sunders your Brokensword and Banhammer even more than their names already imply.

I am Glen Fiddich, the Tavern Tyrant of Thorwal! Look on my bar tab, ye mighty, and dispair! :cheers

You're going to regret uploading that list: I've got a whole heap of questions. Sorry!

* * *

Dodge

This sounds like a really good ability for Glen. What would he have to roll against in order to succeed in dodging? Can he dodge every attack against him, or can he only do it once per turn? If he fails to dodge, can he still parry? What is the difference between Dodge I, Dodge II, and Dodge III?

Dodge is mainly performed to dodge arrows and bolts but you can dodge melee attacks as well. A standard dodge roll is a roll on your base parry value. Each level in dodge adds additional 2 points on parry for dodge rolls. If you fail to dodge you get hit.

PS: Awareness is a requirement for Dodge II. What does that do?

If you roll a bad INI throw. You sacrifice one attack in the round in order to get additional INI points for getting an earlier slot in the attack round. This is important if you want to determine the cause of the fight by spaming things like counter hold, feint and master parry.

* * *

Feint, Clearance Strike, Excursion

If Glen performed a Feint with his left-axe, would he still be able to attack twice in that turn (once with left, once with right), or would the Feint replace the attack with his left hand?

Could a Feint also be a Clearance Strike (ie. a Feint against three targets)? Could Glen perform a Clearance Strike with both axes, or can it only be performed once per turn? Do I roll once for all three enemies, or is there a separate roll to see if I hit each one? What happens if the enemy in the middle parries: does that stop the attack before I hit the third enemy, or does it just save them from damage?

What does Excursion do, aside from sounding like an awesome perk?

Double Strike can never be combined with another offensive perk.
An attack or parry can always be just one manoveur in general.

Clearance Strike splits your attack into one strike with 3 throws but each strike gets a +4 modificator
So first throw is +4, second throw is +8 and the third throw is +12.

Excursion is a series of attacks with which you chain up attacks that force the enemy to trade his own attacks for parries. The second parry is a parry +4 for your enemy. You can only perform this if your INI is higher than the one of your enemy (see Awareness). So if you keep spamming Excursion each round you keep the initiative in battle (you don't get hit) until the enemy performs a special parry move like a Bind or decides not to parry the second strike and instead hit you with a weapon in his left hand.

* * *

Improvised Weapon, Master of Improvisation

You suggested using these skills to turn a grappling hook on a rope into a weapon. How much would I be able to do? Would I only be able to use it as an improvised whip (to trip them up), or could I do something more fancy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhW67MBO8M8)? What would I roll against in order to attack with it: or would it depend on what I was trying to do at the time?

With these perks you can do all the things that you would do with the weapon that you want to improvise so more fancy stuff must be something that the rules allow. So in this case a Crush Down, a Knock Over or even a Bind would be possible if you have those perks as well.
* * *

Master Parry, Counter Hold

How does my Master Parry help my next attack? Does it give me a bonus on my next attack roll? Does it weaken my opponent's next parry attempt? If Glen were to make a Master Parry using one of his axes, would the benefit apply to only the next attack, or would it apply for the whole round (both axes)? What if Glen performed a Double Strike on his next attack?

It gives a -2 bonus on all your attacks in the next round against that enemy

If Glen also has Counter Hold, does this counter-strike ability replace the benefit of Master Parry, or does Master Parry still improve his next normal attack? Can I attack twice - once with each axe - during my counter-strike? Can I perform a special attack, like a Heavy Strike, Double Strike, Crush Down, etc.

Counter Hold can't be combined with other perks.

I think I should share some rule advise here as well.

*

Just to make sure that I haven't gone totally power-crazy, are there any restrictions on the number of perks we can buy each time we level up / can ever have? I kind of want to buy five straight away, and there are at least a dozen more that I want to get at later levels, but the box for them on the character sheet is quite little. :uhoh

Pure Campaign XP so far:

Under a Northern Light: 100XP (already spent by Tim)
Tournament of Gareth: 270XP
The Dust and the Stars: 750Xp
More than 1000 Ogres: 2000Xp (I must have been drunk when I calculated this number)
The Assassins: 600Xp

Phileasson Saga (Minimum of 2900Xp so far):
1. A Struggel gets Hairy 250Xp
2. The Skytower 400Xp
3. The Wolf of Misfortune 350Xp
4. On the Wolf Trail 300Xp
5. H'Ranga's Children 300Xp
6. The Search for the Largala'Hen 350Xp
6.5 The Lion and the Raven 350Xp
7. Like the Wind of the Desert 350Xp
8. The Prophet moves on 250Xp
9. The Valley of the Lizard Gods 350Xp

Tim should have 6,620 Xp by now if we just pretend he was always sleeping in one of the players backpacks.

So for anyone who would join us at this point of the campaign he or she would have the same amount of XP to spent
