The Chiefs just claimed Orton
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7274326/kansas-city-chiefs-claim-qb-kyle-orton-waivers-source-says

Well he is better than what they have. It might be too late for the playoffs (although 8-8 will probably be enough). He also could be auditioning to replace Cassel next season.

GB WIN @ DET - Between the Lions' intimidating pass rush and the Packers' porous defense of late, this could be an exciting game.
MIA WIN @ DAL - Silly stupid upset pick just to get in the holiday spirit. Hey, the Dophins are on a three-game win streak!
SF WIN @ BAL - I'm counting on another Baltimore letdown after a short week.

It's refreshing to have a slate of Thanksgiving games that aren't obviously going to be blowouts or snoozefests for once. Granted, they could still turn out that way, but at least they're not going to be obvious about it... The biggest difference is that the Lions are no longer doormats, and even though I expect them to be outmatched by the Packers, they're capable of stealing one if Rodgers and company are not at their best. Unfortunately, I'm going to miss the game I care most about because it's been exiled to the NFL network.

Aren't the Lions the last team to beat the Pack? I really want to pick the Lions as well, but I think they have a few too many question marks to pull it off.

Whoops didn't even realize the GB/DET game had even started when I put in my picks (work late shift tonight and thought game was at 11a Mountain not 1030). I know there was no score at time but I'll take a zero on that game.

If no one has any objections, I'm willing to give that to you. I didn't include times in the original post, and if you didn't even know the game had started, it's not like the first fifteen minutes of the game influenced your pick.

The Lions are playing very well so far, but they've had several drives torpedoed by penalties. The refs have made a few bad calls, but I think it's more that they're calling this game really, really tight, and that's hurting the less disciplined team.

EDIT: Now, that roughing the passer penalty toward the end of the half was just a horrible, horrible call by the ref. Vanden Bosch hit Rodgers hard, but legally. Good thing there was also offensive pass interference to offset the penalty, but these refs are being way too enthusiastic about their jobs.

I'm fine with that.

Dragon
Nov 24th, 2011, 01:42:10 PM
Heh, at first I thought you meant you were fine with the refs.

However, the Lions are rapidly losing my sympathy. Ndamukong Suh unequivocally earned his ejection. After a Packers OL owned him on a block, Suh sat on him and rammed his helmet down into the turf several times as other players tried to pull him off, and when they finally got him to his feet, he stomped on the downed lineman's arm. He's earned a reputation as a dirty player, and I've been taking it with a grain of salt because most of the examples I've seen were borderline, but that was absolutely a thuggish act that has no place in the NFL.

Figrin D'an
Nov 24th, 2011, 03:16:36 PM
The Lions so not ready for prime time. They're immature, the defense has multiple players with a thuggish attitude who make stupid mistakes, and the passing offense is Calvin Johnson or bust.

I hope Suh gets suspended. He's been flagged, he's been fined, but he still pulls the same crap. He has a major anger problem, and maybe if he has to miss a couple of games, he'll finally realize that his antics are costing his team. Hell, one can make a good argument that his personal foul/ejection was the turning point of the game. Up to that point, the game was only 7-0, and Detroit had held on 3rd down to force a field goal try. But then the stupid penalty, 1st and goal at the 1, Packers score to go up 14-0, and Green Bay had the momentum for basically the rest of the game.

Good thing Green Bay has 10 days off now though. They got banged up a bit today, and need the extra time to get ready for the Giants next week.

Didn't comment last night cause hadn't seen the incident, but watched it on YouTube this morning.

Suh either thinks what he is doing is fine and doesn't see the reason why everybody is up in arms about it. OR... He's one of those people who when they get really agitated or angry they completely black out and honestly don't remember what they did during that period of time.

I honestly don't know which is scarier...

Definitely deserves a suspension though.

Dragon
Nov 25th, 2011, 12:48:19 PM
It reminded me a lot of what Albert Haynesworth did in 2006, where he kicked the helmet off a downed Cowboys offensive lineman Andre Gurode and stomped on his face. He'd had a history of violent tantrums in practice, but this was the first time it had erupted in a big way during a game. He got a then-unprecedented five-game suspension. His actions were certainly worse than Suh's, but at least he was sorry for them.

The Lions have six games left this season. I don't see a five-game suspension for Suh, but I could see three or four.

GB WIN @ DET - Detroit needs to make sweeping changes if they want to be taken seriously.
<strike>MIA WIN @ DAL</strike> - So close, Dolphins. So close.
<strike>SF WIN @ BAL</strike> - Didn't get to see this game, but it sounds like Baltimore's passing game was the difference here between otherwise evenly-matched teams.

Sunday, Nov 27
MIN @ ATL WIN - With Peterson out, Minnesota's future looks grim.
HOU WIN @ JAX - A good field test for Leinart, but the rest of the Texans are good enough to carry the day.
TB WIN @ TEN - Two inconsistent teams, but LeGarrett Blount is a stud.
ARI WIN @ STL - Larrylarrylarrylarrylarry Fiiiiiiiiitzgeraaaaaaaaaaaaaaald! (http://www.nfl.com/goto?id=09000d5d824182b4)
BUF @ NYJ WIN - Hard to say if Buffalo can pull out of this slump before the end of the season.
CAR WIN @ IND - Colts games are easy to pick this season.
CLE @ CIN WIN - Remember when these guys put up a score of 58-48? The Browns will be lucky to score double digits.

WAS @ SEA WIN - Seattle's a hard place to play for marginal teams from the east coast.
CHI @ OAK WIN - Chicago's offense is not nearly as tough without Cutler.
NE WIN @ PHI - Enough said.
DEN @ SD WIN - The question isn't how well Tebow will play (spoiler: he'll play like a college quarterback) but whether the Broncos defense can keep it in reach.

PIT WIN @ KC - Should be a tune-up game for the Steelers going into their remaining divisional matchups.

Monday, Nov 28
NYG @ NO WIN - The Saints are a legitimate threat to the 49ers for the #2 seed.

MIN @ ATL WIN - Yeah, no AP means Ponder has to shine. I don't see that happening.
HOU WIN@ JAX - Jax could win this, but Gabbert has been dreadful and the Texans defense has been solid this year.
TB WIN@ TEN - Toss up. No real QB on the Titans versus a regressing Freeman. Who knows.
ARI @ STL WIN - Oof, bad teams.
BUF @ NYJ WIN - blarhghghg
CAR WIN@ IND - The only game Indy could theoretically win, but not likely.
CLE @ CIN WIN - Bengals have been rather good this year

WAS @ SEA WIN - Ehhh.
CHI @ OAK WIN- If Palmer plays well. Cutler is out, I don't like the Bear's chances.
NE WIN@ PHI - NE is consistent. Philly could decide that they are good and win. Who knows.
DEN @ SD WIN - I guess.

Good grief, the Broncos are at it again, this time in overtime!

16-13 Broncos on a field goal with 29 seconds left in overtime. I didn't see any of the game in regulation, but the biggest play in overtime has to be Von Miller knifing through the offensive line to stop Ryan Mathews four yards deep in the backfield on third down when the Chargers were trying to set up their own winning field goal. That play turned a 49-yard kick into a 53-yard kick, and as close as Novak's kick was to the right upright, that seriously could have been the difference between winning and losing. Heartbreaking loss for San Diego, another gutsy performance from the Broncos.

Jedi Master Carr
Nov 28th, 2011, 12:42:51 PM
San Diego blew the game. Norv Turner is a moron and deserve to get fired. They basically settled for a 50 yard FG by running it three straight times I would have at least thrown it on 2nd down. They should have tried to get as close as they possibly could.
