I don't know what to think of this. On the one hand, I love the idea of Snow White as a bad-ass shield maiden, but on the other hand.. Kristen Stewart. All that's available right now are some pictures of the characters and a cast list, which features a baffling selection of actors as the seven dwarves.
Kristen Stewart as Snow White
Charlize Theron as Ravenna, the Evil Queen
Chris Hemsworth as Eric, the Huntsman
Sam Claflin as Prince Charmant
Sam Spruell as Finn, Ravenna's henchman
Christopher Obi Ogugua as The Mirror
The Dwarves
Ian McShane as Caesar
Eddie Izzard as Tiberius
Bob Hoskins as Constantine
Toby Jones as Claudius
Eddie Marsan as Hadrian
Stephen Graham as Nero
Ray Winstone as Trajan
Nick Frost as Gus
There's also another as-yet untitled Snow White film coming out next year: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1667353/
I guess 2012 is the year of Snow White.

I know. That's what's so baffling!
The dwarves in this definitely trump the dwarves in the other film

I do like the visual style in these early promo shots, so I'll be keeping my eye open for it as time goes on. Even if it's a lackluster film that only looks neat, at least I'll have some good pictures to use for peoples' sigs and whatnot ^_^;

I've been having the exact same thought process for that...
Then there's the "Untitled Snow White" film slated for 2012, with Sean Bean as "The King" and Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1158069504/tt1667353).

Charlize beats Julia, no doubt.

That red getup looks like a cosplay dress. High-end looking, but still cosplay.

That's from the Snow White movie that Tarsem Singh is directing for next year. If you've seen any of his movies you know that enormous dresses are par for the course, and they always look gorgeous in the movie.

It doesn't look bad, it just reminds me of a cosplay type dress is all. I've seen The Cell and bits of The Fall, so I know his stuff can get on the fantastical side.

You do know that cosplay just means dressing in costumes, right? :p It's a costume. ;)

Yes I know that.
Undiplomatically, I'm sure it will start looking better as time goes on and once they've gone through post-production, but as of now it looks like shit in comparison to Charlize Theron's getup.

It just looks kind of.. simple compared to Charlize's costume. I know that simple isn't always a bad thing, but it looks - with the exception of the headdress - like the kind of costume you could actually buy or rent from a costume place, rather than something you'd see in a film.

Charlize's dress (at least the one on the splash page of the website) is much sleeker and elaborately 'bedazzled' in an expensive looking way. It's beautiful, I'm not denying it. :)
I'll start another thread to talk about the costumes for the other movie. ;)

The visuals are absolutely gorgeous.
But I'm still not sold on the whole 'shield-maiden' thing - Stewart just looks completely out of place in the middle of all those battle scenes.

Well, I am willing to wait to see how the shield-maiden thing works out. I personally think everything looks great and holding my opinion on Stewart because of the Twlight nonsense. This is more up my alley then Mirror Mirror and looking forward to seeing how this lives up to a grabbing trailer.

Kirsten Stewart still hasn't convinced me that she can act, but Charlize Theron looks like she's going to be fantastically entertaining in this. Hopefully there will be just as many scenes with her as there are with "KStew"

Oh totally. The Evil Queen portrayed by Theron and Thor as the Huntsman are the main reasons I am going. Plus the visuals are epic.

I don't know about you, but I am a sucker for characters turning into flocks of birds. There is something totally badass about that :lol

On the Kirsten Stewart business, apparently she's done some very good work in the past, outside of that role for which she's known. I haven't seen her in anything else but there may be life after Twilet for her yet.
And yes, people turning into flocks of birds is awesome, but not quite as awesome as a black knight made from glass shards. That is epic winning!

Kristen Stewart's "acting face" looks like she's constipated. :p

The voice over is in Japanese, but the footage itself is in English.. and hey, any excuse to watch Charlize Theron turns into a flock of birds right?

I'm still not sold on this film, but I'll say again that it at least looks nice. :)

We just watched the blu-ray of this. "Looks nice" is probably the best I can describe it as. Charlize Theron looks stunning in every shot, Kristen Stewart looks... like Kristen Stewart (http://kristenstewartface.tumblr.com/), and the dwarves are great. The pacing just felt a bit weird, and it's hard to be emotionally engaged with any character played by KStew. Overall it didn't wow me, but I wasn't bored by it either. I'd rate it 5/10. My favorite film in which Charlize Theron turns into a flock of birds. ;)

I still haven't seen this, but I have watched Mirror Mirror, and it was really good. Much less dark, and suitable for kids to watch, but not nearly as dumb as the advertising made it look.

I didn't like Mirror Mirror that much. It wasn't really sure what it was trying to be, and ended up tripping over it's ideas and contradicting itself.
They set Snow up as this girl power character who could take care of herself in a fight, except she was still inferior to the Prince unless she cheated. The dwarves had looked after themselves for years, were hardened criminals, and yet suddenly became sappy and helpless when a woman showed up to do the housework. It somehow managed to be anti-sexist and sexist at exactly the same time. Jodie Foster was entertaining, and the whole version of her trapped in the mirror had interesting potential, but they didn't take it anywhere: she, like Snow, ended up swooning over the generic handsome prince character, who for some reason was magically turned into a dog? The ending was so sickly-generic and needlessly happily-ever-after that I couldn't even finish watching... and I'm the kind of person who usually cries when there is a happy ending.
It wasn't terrible: it just felt like they were doing things in order to get cheap laughs out of the kid audience. The writing was roughly on a par with some of the Barney episodes I've been made to watch while babysitting for my niece. Don't get me wrong, Snow White and the Huntsman was equally bad... but at least Huntsman tried to go with a new direction / vision on the story, aiming for a different (adult) market to the original. Mirror Mirror was a rehash that didn't seem to know what it wanted to be: and while the original has it's flaws, it's still a better telling of the story than either remake.

I got the first letter right. :uhoh
I am terrible with names. >_<
As an aside - Once Upon A Time is a way better Snow White story. Though... Graham. :(
