The story doesn't seem as good as the first 2 games but the action is fun. And hard. Or maybe I'm just terrible at the game :lol

It is definetly harder than the original one but on your road to FPS glory Charley it is the right game and I play it right now as well.

You do not need to know Max Payne 1&2 to understand this game.

The physics in this game are a little bit unforgiving. Trying to dodge in a narrow hallway might more than once stop your bullet time move in midair once you hit the wall.

Like Mass Effect this game relies heavily on cover mechanics but cover might not always stay cover for long since a lot of things in a level are destructable.

Max Payne is a drunk at the very edge of his current existence so connecting with him might not always be as easy as in the first two games. What really amazes me is the fact that the game tells it's story without a single loarding screen this makes the experience more cinematic.

As a concluding note: I still recommend Red Dead Redemption to you Charley since I think this is more your kind of game but if you manage to beat Max Payne 3 on normal difficulty you have finally manned up Charley!

I bought ArmA II the other day after seeing the DayZ mod in action. So far though I'm finding it very frustrating as the difficulty is a bit silly.

No doubt about it, it is extremely difficult. But it is extremely rewarding. It's only just now in Beta, mind you. Rocket, the dev, was a dev for AmrA 2 and is now supposedly working full time on it. He puts out updates like crazy.

I suggest reading the newbies forum, it helped a lot. It's all about patience and being sneaky. Two friends and I have been playing and have reached a small town in the middle of the continent. Took us about 2 days to get there. We aren't rich, but we're doing okay with a few guns and some supplies. Food is our biggest problem right now but we have a game plan.

www.dayzdb.com/map is a good map, you'll need that.

Check out Electro, get a hatchet and some supplies and bug out.

Took you 2 days? So if you join a server, play, leave and then rejoin it saves your progress?

MortalDanger
Jun 26th, 2012, 11:37:05 AM
Yes, your progress is persistent. All your items/health/location are saved on the DayZ external server. So if you play on US 22 Seattle 3 (or whatever) then join Atlanta 58, you'll have the same stuff/health/location.

The only things that aren't persistent are tents and vehicles, which you can store items in, they remain on the specific server.

It's unbelievably realistic. Going into town for supplies is a good 20 minute ordeal, from planning the entrance and contingency plans if stuff goes bad, to getting your stuff and getting out.

The biggest thing you have to worry about are Bandits. Some people kill others for supplies, others do it for fun. In my opinion those people are ruining the game a bit. Some just sit on a rooftop and snipe people for the hell of it, to no gain at all. This isn't supposed to be a deathmatch, but again, it's in Alpha so they are working on it.

Right now, if you look at www.dayzdb.com/map , we are just north of Dolina. We got through from Elektro, to Rog Por, and hit a few farms on the way. Tonight the plan is to hit the industrial areas north of Dolina, head west to Polana, then back east to the coast to hit Berezino's hospitals and grocery stores for meds and food. Then try to find a vehicle and head north the very dangerous airfield. So far we are desperate for food, tents, vehicles, and hunting knife. It's a trip, man.

The game Spain vs Portugal had one pro...it was so boring that playing ME3 multiplayer was not interrupted at all.

The big CON is that the game reset my kill count to 0. I had frakking 4500 kills the last time I played.

Aside from carrying on with Skyrim - I now have enchants giving me 38% bonus to Archery - I started a new game of Dark Souls on my PS3 after losing my saves by replacing my faulty one. In the space of around 2 hours I not only got up to where I had been (which wasn't very far in) but also beat the boss that had me stupped previously - the Taurus Demon.

I've opted for the Pyromancer since he not only has awesome pryomancy spells but also starts as a decent melee fighter. So I basically spent my first lot of souls beefing up his dexterity and also bought a Scimitar, making him a fast-hitting melee fighter who can dish out a large amount of medium-range fire damage when the situation calls for it. I think this is a good position to be in at such an early stage of the game. The next boss is the Hellkite Dragon and this thing is huge!

I also have a Spear and a Light Crossbow which gives me furthe roptions in combat. The Light Crossbow is good for pulls as well as whittling down enemy health before they close to melee range, and the Spear is great in situations where blocking is important since you can attack from behind your raised shield - attacking with other weapons even with your shielf up means that as you swing, your guard is dropped enough so that an enemy hit will make contact with you instead of the shield. This is handy for enemies like the Skeleton Spearman who have a shield and spear. They are only vulnerable while attacking or recovering from an attack, so when you see them rearing the spear for a lunge, you can attack at the same time with your shield raised - both spears will make contact onln yours hits the enemy and the skeletons hits your shield. Awesome.

Anybody with a PS3 who hasnt played this game or the predecessor, Demon's Souls - I highly recommend them. They're heralded as ridiculously difficult which I disagree with. They are challenging but once you learn that a steady, cautious pace is better than a Diablo III killing spree run-through, you'll manage quite well. plus once you start levelling up, even when you are careless and do take a few hits it's ot the end of the world.

Still grinding ME3 multiplay. Almost at 100% GR. Got switcheroo'd into a bronze match and was amazed at how much of a badass I am in it now that I normally play silver.

Still not a fan of the Batarian soldier, but I'm making do.

Also is it just me or are the Geth just stupid asses on silver? I hate them because holy shit I always manage to run up on a group of six of them and catch three rockets in the face with no time to dive for cover. So frustrating!

It's a point and click adventure, very story/character driven with a lot of tension and atmosphere. The focus is, like the comic book, on the survivors rather than on guts and gore. It's particularly cool in that there are a lot of decisions which you make which will alter, in both big and small ways, how the episode and future episodes unfold.

Alpha Protocol - finally!

Holy shit this game. Took almost 2 hours to clear the tutorial sessions alone, and to sift through the initial intel of the Saudi Arabia mission.

I don't care for the checkpoint saving but I can understand not wanting to savescum in a game with consequences as steep as these. It's interesting that the combat seems to be the easiest bit to the game (so far). I'm improving at evading guards, and avoiding cameras seems pretty cut and dry. The little hacking/lockpicking minigames are pretty challenging at points, which adds to the tension.

The only game with trickier dialogue minigame is LA Noire, and this one seems to carry your achievements and misdeeds with you, which promises to be incredibly challenging. Having to brush up on dossiers and establish bona fides and other things really makes it feel like a true spy story.

In short, I'm in love with this game, but I fully expect it to kick my ass. The amount of mental work that goes into it just this far in seems amazing to me.

Well, I may be well on my way in doing that, since I let Omar Mohammed bin Nasri walk free!

I've nearly finished the entire hub of Saudi Arabia. I am getting crazy good at sneaking about and whittling guards down with takedowns, until I decide to put everyone down with my pistol. I need to start using more gadgets though. I usually carry a loadout full of grenades, EMP, the anti-radio device, and either a first aid kit or a sound projector. Even then, I only really use the radio killer when my antics of picking people off with a pistol become too brazen.

I've got my handlers more or less figured out and have been building rapport with all of them. Not sure how that'll play out as I go, but I'm keeping options open and not burning bridges.

So far I haven't seen any need to don any of the special suits you can get in the game, as I like the stealth bonus for going plainclothes a lot more than the alternative. I may get the stealth suit just for the capability of mounting an accessory to trim down my cooldown though, not sure yet.

Cirrsseeto Quez
Jul 5th, 2012, 01:54:24 AM
Yeah most of my "kills" aren't, since I usually go for non-lethal stealth takedowns. Pistol is for when shit cooks off and I can't get on someone's six. Assault rifle is there only for weird scenarios when even that doesn't work.

I'd still like to upgrade my pistol at some point. Gadgets are cheap and I'm generally ok so far with my stealth suit. I'd just like to buff my damage more while keeping a silent weapon. Guess with me assigning AP to pistols as one of my 3 specialties (others being stealth and sabotage) I'll get plenty of buffs eventually.

As far as Olga? I haven't met an Olga yet. SIE is proving to be a frustration though.

I will say, fighting a fucking Stryker at the end of Saudi Arabia was a bloody nightmare. Even timing those machine gun bursts and the 20mm, you get fucking stitched pretty badly in the stealth suit going from cache to cache in search of missile launchers.

Oh, and I did have a bit of lol at Grigori's expense. Since he sold my name off to the highest bidder like his dossier suggested, I ended up pocketing his little arms shipment side business. I figure that is fair.

With my computer on the fritz I've been playing Borderlands on the Xbox. I never really played the expansions. When they started hitting the marketplace I was on my second playthrough so switching over to them muddled up the whole experience and so I've restarted with a new character to play the whole thing from start to finish rather than jumping between second playthrough main story to first playthrough expansions. Playing Brick and having a blast with the rocket launcher. Punching stuff got boring really fast so I switched to the Master Blaster talent tree. Good stuff. Although, I have to say that it's a lot harder than playing the sniper.

So several crashes of Arkham Asylum made me move straight on to Atkham City. I'm sorry I waited so long to play this game. I was worried that Rocksteady may have set the bar too high with the first installment and wouldn't be able to deliver the same level of quality, detail and badassery that the Asylum had in bucket loads. But I'm so glad my worries were unfounded.

Moving from the confines of Arkham Asylum and its grounds to this cordoned-off are of Gotham City has allowed the developers to amplify those aspects that I mentioned. The graphics are noticably better and the Gotham skyline looks just incredibly now that it's even closer to the playae area. The ability to listen in on chatter from both residents of Arkham City as well as the security forces is a nice touch shich adds to the feeling that nobody gets the drop on Batman.

And the environment is incredible. From the lowly roads and street corners where thugs hang around burning oildrum fires or underneath streetlights to the rooftops and walkways and wires and gargoyles offering vantage points to survey from before swooping down to engage the lowlifes below; the variation in playing levels (as in height) makes for a very dynamic combat flow as you dart up and down and through the arena during a melee.

And now for the badassery. Everything from the first game that made you Batman gives that same awesome feeling of empowerment. The batarangs usefulness in the thick of combat has been enhanced with the use of quick throws. And the special combat moves which are available when you reach certain combo multiplier levels - kinda like a powerip bar in Capcom beat'em ups - add to the ferocity of attacks and even give some crowd control options. One of the new abilities I'm really loving is the smoke pellet. They have a cooldown but are so much fun to use. Just one guy? Thow it at him, then disappear. Surrounded - throw them on the floor beneath you and grapple up out of the wya to plan your next move. The first time I used this, it reminded me of that moment in the first Batman movie after Batman failes to save Jack Napier, and the two cops are moving from either side, so he throws a smoke vial an the ground and grapples straight up to get away. So cool! And thats exactly what this game makes you feel - like you're the coolest badass ever! Other games have a similar feeling. Crackdown on XBOX 360 allows you to drive ridiculous cars up walls or up or under traffic, and you can throw crooks across the street or jump up and over buildings. But you're a walking target and every badguy knows where to find you. You are a tank. But with this, the badguys are going to have a tough time just finding you. But most of the time the only way they will is if you want them to. And God help them because you kick ass!.

The larger environment of the city walls for faster travel, and Rocksteady have come prepared. The ability to both grapple boost and dive bomb while gliding gives you greater speed, and using the dive bomb ability to head straight into a group of thugs allows you to use the kinetic energy built up while in the dive to unleash a shockwave which knocks enemies to the ground - very useful in hostage situations or even when multiple thugs are carrying firearms. The developers have added more ways to take down enemies. One I liked in particular allows you to silently take out a thug when directly above them. I was on top of some scaffolding with a thug right below me holding a hostage. When I executed the move, Batman hung down and grabbed the thugs neck with his feet, knocking him out. You can also crack two enemies' heads together for a double-takedown, or if you've located a target on the other side of a breakable wall with the cowls x-ray detective vision you can burst through with raw physical strength and put their lights out in an instant.

I've hardly begun to scratch the surface of this game no doubt, but I'm having so much fun. The combat is slicker than the first game with more options, and the exploration aspect is just in overload with how much bigger this place is compared to the confines of the asylum. It's too early to tell and I've not heard anything, but given how Rocksteady made this game bigger than the first makes me wonder whether they might open up the whole of Gotham for a third installment. The idea of adding the Batmobile and Batwing to your repetoire is very awesome. And perhaps a story element similar to the Nolan films in that Gotham PD are also out to apprehend you would call for caution and stealth. I could talk and speculate at length on that so for now I'll just say that I'm so very glad I moved onto this sequel. I will play Arkham Asylum again once I figure out whats causing the crashes. But I don't have time to troubleshoot a game I've already played when there's a city full of criminals to sort out. And somewhere out there is a ringing phone that needs answering - and the clock is ticking!

Veronica (likes girls)
Christine (likes girls)
This one scribes sugar baby (likes older men)
The old doctor Lady

That is not what I consider a fertile breeding enviroment :D

So I've been thinking about my Youtube channel a lot these last few days, and specifically the lack of new content and stagnation on it. I'd like to change that.

When I first started making videos I really enjoyed it and something changed. I think it was the pressure of playing a game for the first time and taking it all in and paying attention conflicting with part of my brain remembering to do commentary and also to try and make that commentary interesting and engaging. As a result I abandoned my New Vegas videos and carried on without Fraps recording. And I got a few hours in, nothing major. Same with Skyrim.

So now I'd like to try again, and almost reboot my channel. I was impressed with my humble subscriber count of fifty-ish and that number has upped and downed over the many months of inactivity. But I'd like to challenge myself and see how far that can go, and have a blast doing it. So here's my plan.

Rather than do what I feel killed my enthusiasm for making Let's Plays which was play one game and only upload that game, I'm going to stagger my uploads, mix them across a number of games each day during the week. Minecraft is a definite, I haven't played it in aaaages and am ready to start a brand new world. maybe vanilla, maybe with the Technic pack, dunno yet. Maybe a series of one then the other rather than alternate each video.

Another Youtuber I'm subscribed to has done something similar with his own channel and that's what inspired me to do this. But going a step further than him in his shedule slots being dedicated to specific games, I like the idea of dedicated days to specific genre's. This allows me to have something like a "Retro Thursday" or an "Indie Sunday". I won't have a different game each Thursday, I'll dedicate a series of videos to one game for that genre/category. But it gives each day variety rather than something more samey like "Monday is Modern-setting FPS day, Tuesday is Sci-fi FPS day" eg having Fallout and Stalker running alongside each other.

So it kinda means I'm creating "channels" within my channel. If anybody wants to give feedback/suggestions I'd love that. I definitely want to have Minecraft as its own thing, so maybe Minecraft Monday! But what about the other categories/genres. I like the idea of a Retro day where I play a game thats old. Should there be a limit on how old something needs to be to go into this category, like anything at least 10 years old? This is a good one because again it's open. There's retro RTS, retro FPS, retro platformers, old Sega and Nintendo games, any style of game can fit so I have a lot of scope for an idea as simple as "Retro Tuesday" or whatever.

Being the Star Wars fan I am, I could have a Star Wars Wednesday or something. While a good choice, I might run out of games for that one pretty fast since good Star Wars games are few. Maybe extend it to Sci-fi games of all types ie RTS, FPS, RPG etc.

Anything else? Any suggestions, tips or game/category recommendations. As an aid, check out my Steam library here (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197995697734/games/?tab=all&sort=name) - might inspire a category I can milk or something. If anything it'll stop you from recommending something I haven't got on Steam. I have a decent library of older games on GOG.com so there's a good source for retro games of all types.

Cheers guys!

Orcs Must Die 2. So much fun. Although, I will admit that I feel like I'm missing out on a lot playing this by myself. A lot of obstacles I face in levels look like they would be remarkably simpler with a second player. Regardless it is really good fun for anyone who enjoys tower defense games.

I couldn't really get into Dungeon Defense because of all the gear and leveling bogging down the system. This one you just grab and go with only minimal time spent upgrading traps and tweaking your load out.

I highly recommend it.

Bye, guys. See you in a few days.

:eee

Edit:

...or possibly not. Origin is experiencing an "unusually high server load", so I can't register the product key, which means it won't complete the installation.

FFS, EA. What are you playing at? :mad

ME3 is actually a much shorter game than ME2, so you're gonna power through this one.

Yeah but do not forget to up galactic readyness to 90%+ before starting priority earth!

I think you can get it to lower now? Since they released the EC, didn't they drop it down so you can get the best ending without playing a whole bunch of multiplayer?

Oh, hell no bitch. You did not just break my Kaidan... :ohno

I had some issues importing my ME2 save, so unfortunately I've had to start from scratch. I'm actually interested to see what the "default" game is meant to be... once I've completed one playthrough, I'll probably pick one of my characters and replay the whole series from start to finish in a single run.

Thus far, I'm really enjoying myself. I like the way that conversation options are blended into the cutscenes, and the way that the first two levels are set up (without any "wander around on the ship" bits) made it feel really fast-paced and cinematic, which was awesome. I'm absolutely beasting it with the combat system, though I'm finding that the cover system is taking a little getting used to (it doesn't help that I don't have a middle mouse button :uhoh), but once I get the key bindings how I want them, I'm sure it'll be fine. I'm liking this "war assets" type deal where you collect members of your crew, too. The only niggle I'm having so far is that characters like Avina and Doctor Michel don't seem to remember me... but now I think about it, that's probably a "your save wasn't imported" issue. We'll see what happens once I'm on a different playthrough.

And damn it, the departure from Earth made me cry again. >_<

Is xbox multiplayer on a separate server to PC multiplayer, or is everyone under one roof? I had some fun with the multiplayer in the demo, but didn't do too much... if anyone would be up for babysitting the noob in some matches, that'd be awesome.

Edit:

Also, I haven't really been paying attention to DLC/etc news, to avoid spoilers and such. What do I need to buy, and by what point in the story do I need to have it?

All the DC for ME3 is free. So far there is only multiplayer DLC and the extended cut of the ending.

The multiplayer servers are platform specific, so there's no way we can play with Xbox players, but there are a couple of us who have PC (myself and Brian, at least.)

If you don't import your save, you will potentially miss out on meeting characters from the first two games. Also you don't get the ramification of certain choices that you made in the past carrying over into the story, so I'd definitely try and figure out how to important.

Unfortunately it's a problem with the save file - I guess I must have restarted ME2 with the same character on a harder difficulty or to play a DLC or something... I'll have to install and play through Mass Effect 2 if I want to be able to import, which is teh lame.

Aw :( You can download save files from various sites on the net I think, which list the choices the player made.. though honestly I'd say it's better to play the game again yourself. The story will feel much more personal then :)

Describe the nature of your import issue? Did it not show your correct Shepard? This might be just the face import bug but all your choices will be there.

If you can't find the savegames reinstall ME2 and patch it to the latest version and then load and save again your last game or maybe just kick Harbingers as again with your Shepard of choice.

Captain Untouchable

The issue is that ME3 is not recognising either of my ME2 saves as "valid". It will only recognise a save as valid if:

a) The save is at the end of the game (ie. it's the autosave upon completion)
b) Shepard survives the end of the game

For some reason, neither of the save files I've transferred across meet those criteria as far as ME3 is concerned. It's not showing any sort of Shepard whatsoever: it does not think there are any "completed" ME2 saves in the ME2 folder.

I'll need to reinstall Mass Effect 2, and all of the DLCs (because I picked up the bonus companions), just to even work out what the issue. If I'm lucky, I'm near the end and it'll take an hour or so. If I'm not, I've potentially got days of going over gameplay that I've completed umteen times before I can even start playing ME3. Is it honestly worth all that effort?

I've hunted around on there. Apparently people don't like playing FemShep as a Soldier, and if they do they aren't fans of Kaidan. I found one person that did have that combo, but they'd given the Collector Base to Cerberus...

I don't really want to play someone else's decisions; I guess I'm gonna have to suck it up and replay ME2 again. :\

Have ypu checked if your savegames are stored in the default savegame folder?

Captain Untouchable
Aug 6th, 2012, 10:22:54 AM
Yeah, tried all that.

UPDATE:

Damned if I know why, but after spending all night re-downloading and re-installing the Mass Effect 2 stuff, ME2 doesn't seem to want to recognise the save files either. I could probably fix it if I set my mind to it... but balls to it. Lets just set up a new character and begin at the beginning.

Don't expect to hear from me much in the next few weeks. :mischief

Getting used to playing the original Mass Effect again is tricky. I keep forgetting to do stuff like buy better armour, and I keep forgetting about the whole overheating shizzle. :uhoh

I'd forgotten how awesome the Mako was, though. :3:

Having retrieved Liara and completed Novaria, I seem to have unlocked Virmire already. If I'm just powering through the game so I've got the right decisions for importing, can I safely skip Feros?

Crusader
Aug 9th, 2012, 09:22:23 AM
I think so but I am not sure. Feros is only important for ME2 not 3.

BTW Can't you just buy the Motion Comic of ME1 and Skip it all together?

Captain Untouchable
Aug 9th, 2012, 12:07:51 PM
Turns out that I need to do Feros in order to unlock the ending.

I already have the motion comic DLC, but that only lets you select the main events. Without a full ME1 import, Doctor Michel acts like you've never met before; Avina acts like it's your first time on the Citadel, you don't get access to some of the quest-related war assets... and those are just the ones I stumbled upon myself. Since I'll have to complete all the ME2 loyalty missions anyway to get all the companion cameos anyway, I might as well put in a little extra time to get all the easter eggs.

That's the first Mass Effect done!

Took me a little longer than expected, because I got distracted yesterday and started building the Brooklyn Bridge in Minecraft. :uhoh

I found a list of all the stuff that gets imported from ME1 into ME3, to make sure I was getting as much of the bonus content as possible. I also did a couple of my favourite mini missions... turns out I'm pretty pro at fighting thresher maws in the Mako. :smokin

Apparently I suck really badly at one tiny portion of the rescue Liara mission. You know that bit where you walk up the hill to the base, and you encounter those jump-aroundy Geth Stalkers for the first time? Died four or five times there... and then not at all for the rest of my playthough. :cyduck

Now to go reacquaint myself with the ME2 combat system!
