It's obviously not a shock, as his struggles with pancreatic cancer have been well documented, and there was a lot of suspicion that his condition had turned for the worse when he announced he was stepping down as Apple's CEO last month.

I didn't always agree with his approach or management style, and he had a way of being... well... kind of a dick about a lot of things. However, his influence on the tech industry has been undeniable. He and Steve Wozniak pretty much began the personal computer revolution.

That, and nobody deserves to die of cancer.

That, and nobody deserves to die of cancer. He was a brilliant, revolutionary guy, like him or not. And I agree, he certainly didn't deserve to die of cancer. It's a loss for the technology world. He always pushed the envelope. It's hard to not respect his willingness and success of timely burning bridges: Mac OS X, the iPod's Mac only comparability at the start, the intel transition, the iPhone. All were huge transitions that left almost everything behind.

I think it was only fitting and appropriate that I first heard this news as a breaking news push notification on my iPhone. :\
