Ok, so as some of you might know, Charley and I went on a healthy nerd rage over the last weekend and visited the hardware store for stuff to make lightsabers. It was fun, and we discovered that Jedi undoubtedly constructed their elegant weapons while drinking.

But anyway, Charley's creation was amazing. He set out to create Anbira's saber hilt, and what he came up with was nothing short of spectacular. It's gorgeous and quite awesome.

Mine on the other hand, I was not satisfied with at all. I was trying to make s'Il's practice saber that she'd built while still a padawan, and which was destroyed on Dantooine by Savoc. Something just wasn't working with it, and no matter what I tried, it just didn't seem to fit with what I had in my mind's eye. Thankfully the only pictures of it are a few on FB and on my phone.

Today though I have done it. After multiple trips to Lowes after work yesterday and today, I'm finally done. Of course the process of getting there was a little frustrating; mostly the dremel acting up and eventually dying was my only beef, but that was quickly rectified by slapping the dremel cutting bit into my monster drill. Worked great :D

Here's the finished product:

And both hilts:

I'm not quite ready to brave the saber gauntlet yet, but maybe some time in the future, heh.

And if anyone else has their own little lightsaber projects they'd done, post up pictures!

I like it! What kinds of materials were used for these? I'm guessing a lot out of plumbing, but I was curious if you went to any other departments for the supplies.

Those are so badass. They look like real props!

Thanks :D

And yeah, most of it was plumbing supplies. Lots of o-rings, too. I did use a smooth black cabinet liner under the chrome bits.

Awesomesauce! :eee

I especially love the strappy leathery stuff on s'Il's one. It makes it look more realistic and "used"... more like it was something that was made by hand, rather than having that too-sleek and too-generic factory look that a lot of the prequel 'sabers had.

There is no reason we can't do this at Salty Nerd.

And lo, we did it! Not everything got finished, but I'm happy with how mine turned out.

Fun fact: you can tell we did this pre-tattoos because my wrist is blank!

Make your next one with galvanized steel so it can double as a brain displacer :p

It's in a pretty box because I decided to use it as a gift for a secret santa party that we're going to tomorrow. Luckily there will be nerds there, plus I'm gonna make a little card to put inside of it that says who the saber belonged to, and how it was found in the ruins of the temple after the purge.
