Mankind begins its most monumental task – the colonization of space. A crew of internationally renowned scientists and security strategists, with wide-ranging convictions and diverse ethics, embarks on a mission that will change the world. One Planet. Seven unique factions. Which will you lead? Each faction has its own agenda, each leader a final goal. You must play to each strength and exploit each hidden weakness in your quest to rule the future.

I know this is an old game but it just got re-released through Good Old Games so I had to give it a shout out in its own thread, cause it's just one of my favourite strategy games ever. Here's an intro to the factions:

Would anyone be interested in trying some multi-player? It's only $5.99

Definitely. I am buying it right now! Got the original but it's a bit of an ordeal to load VirtualBox and emulate XP just to play a slightly laggy game of it. This will just be awesome!

Which faction did you usually go Jenny? I was quite partial to The Human Hive. Aweosme industry and growth rate. Poor economy and science but with such a fast-growing empire it didn't matter so long as you kept the expanding.

I like playing as Gaia's Stepdaughters if only because you get to recruit the mindworms!

I love Sid Miers games... but I've never actually played Alpha Centauri.

I may have to rectify that... :uhoh

It's Civ.. in space! You shouldn't have any problems running this, either, with it being a fairly old game! :)

I think Peter is looking into how we can go about playing this on multiplayer, so hopefully we can get a game going soon. I've only ever tried singleplayer before so it'll be nice to have someone else to gang up on the computer factions with :lol

After today I'm off work for 5 days so plenty of time to get a multiplayer game going.

I think we'll be able to play over Hamachi so if you can download the Hamachi client - it's a LogMeIn program - we can give it a try.

Been playing quite a bit over the last few days and I think I'll be playing as Morgan Industries. Been perfecting my strategies for generating as much energy as possible. If played right, I can out-tech the University quite quickly. In my current game, each base square generates 8 energy per turn. I can rush-build to my hearts content.

I wonder if Jace bought it. A three-way pact brotherhood could be quite epic!

Where would I get Hamachi from?

I ought to do this. Years ago I tried to play, but it's a very intimidating game

I have to admit, there's a lot involved. Well, not exactly. It's pretty well-paced in that advanced concepts come gradually, but if you understand them and plan in advance you can really plow ahead by considering the meta-game.

Incidentally Jenny and I had a test run over Hamachi - absolutely fine.

I've set up a Hamachi network called SW-Fans.Network - PM me for the password and then request to join and I'll accept the request ASAP.

I've got my heart set on playing as Morgan Industries. Hoping someone will play as University to research all that lovely tech for me to put to use in my factories! :)

It's really been a long time since I played this game, and even back then I wasn't an expert, but yeah.. it can seem kind of intimidating at times.

Would anyone be up for scheduling a game this weekend?

Let me see if I can swing it. It's old enough that it should run on my comp no sweat
