Welcome to the future! Here you will find a speculative timeline of future history. Part fact and part fiction, the timeline is based on detailed research that includes analysis of current trends, projected long-term environmental changes, known advances in computing such as Moore's Law, the latest scientific advances, and the evolving geopolitical landscape. Where possible, references have been provided to support the predictions. FutureTimeline.net is intended to be an ongoing, collaborative project that is open for discussion - we welcome ideas from scientists, futurists, inventors, writers and anyone else interested in the future of our world.

It looks like Mars will be colonised within my lifetime. Awesome!

On the downside, technology to halt ageing doesn't seem to come into its element until what will probably be the last decade of my life.

If only it were banned eveyrwhere now :p

Seriously, some of these concepts are truly awesome. A lot of it is straight out of the pages of science fiction but when speculating about real-life future developments, they're really quite exciting. All the space and AI/computer related ideas are incredibly awesome.

As a fan of science fiction, including Asimov's Foundation series, this is pretty cool stuff (even if it is fairly speculative).

Very interesting prediction: Christianity will have almost died out in America by the 2240s (http://www.futuretimeline.net/23rdcentury/2200-2249.htm#christianity). O_o

2090 - Religion is fading from European culture (http://www.futuretimeline.net/21stcentury/2090-2099.htm#religion)
"In some European nations, the number of people considering themselves to be non-religious has increased from around 30% in 1980, to over 90% now."

What took you so long, America? :p

Cause we got all your ultra-religious loonies from 1600 to 19xx.

Another thing I like about it is that their predictions (at least the near future ones) have all got references which demonstrate the thinking behind the prediction.

Yes, I think that's what makes it all the more interesting/exciting!

2092 - West Antarctica is one of the fastest growing areas in the world (http://www.futuretimeline.net/21stcentury/2090-2099.htm#westantarctica)

So awesome (settling Antarctica), and so not awesome (global warming causing rapid spreading of deserts around the equatorial region). :\

I guess if some of us are particularly long lived, we might retire to the Antarctic!
