Hey all. Sorry I've been dead to the boards the last few months. Just walked at commencement this evening and will be getting my bachelors in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics with a minor in Astrophysics.
Jeans, ratty T-shit, tennis shoes with blaze orange soles. All of the Aeros wearing aviators and in similar state of slobishness. Majors went by alphabetical order so we were the first 50 to walk and had to listen to names being read the next hour and a half. Made paper airplanes with our programs and instead of throwing hats, chucked those at people.
Also ordered Jimmy Johns to be delivered to the front row where we were sitting.
Damn we are a classy bunch. After party at the bars was pretty nuts, but I had to stay relatively sober due to having to drive. No such reservations tomorrow night, though.
Now all I have to do is finish 2 finals and 2 technical papers and I'll actually get the slip of paper.

@jenny: Evil flying uber drones for world domination?
Well this was my goal after becoming an engineer but now after some research I settled with the mechanical design for power inverters.
@Karl: Congrats on graduating, I bet that you will be one hell of a good engineer. Good luck with your job applications!

Thanks all! Heading out to a few grad parties with friends today then hitting up free comic book day.
Congratulations!
What's next? :D
For now unemployment. The aerospace industry sucks right now. I think less than a quarter of the Aero grads actually have jobs and most of them aren't actually in aerospace.
I did get accepted to the Master's program at Colorado-Boulder, but they aren't offering funding and I really don't want to take out 35k in loans a year. Thinking of deferring enrollment for a year and trying to find work in the meantime.

Yeah the unemployment after graduation sucks. It took me half a year to find a job and another quarter year one that is actually fun :)
Well the econemy is kicking back in around here. Maybe you want to consider working for EADS in Europe. You can always move back to the US once things get better and a few years in a foreign country is good to have in a CV. Well I had to move from Germany to bavaria as well and guys run around like that here:

Congratulations! I hope you are able to find gainful employment, that's probably the worst part about it...not having anything lined up. My dad used to work for Lockheed-Martin, but it was a while ago. I don't think he knows anyone there any more lol.

Congratulations!! :D
As far as employment goes, keep an eye out on some of the firms that are looking to develop private sector space travel. NASA handed out a bunch of development grants to companies over the last year or so: they want to be able to get satellites, cargo, and astronauts into orbit and beyond relying on technology built and operated by the private sector, which they then rent/hire like a glorified taxi service.
It's only just kicking off at the minute, but there's probably going to be some major expansion in that sector over the next few years: especially since we're down to the final two shuttle missions. I doubt the Yanks will be comfortable relying on a Soyuz capsule to get their astronauts to the ISS for too long... :uhoh

Hadn't considered EADS. Already have applications in at BAE in the UK. Also with Honeywell in Italy and Switzerland.
Congratulations!! :D

Yeah, I've got my eye on a few places, especially those involved with Virgin Galactic as well as some others. Lockheed is also doing some shifting around with their desert hawk program so we'll see.
I have an interview with Raytheon on Tuesday as well so hopefully that goes decently.

Move to Huntsville, they're up to their armpits in Aero industry. Of course I'm not sure about the current hiring situation there, but it's basically a strip mall for federally funded death machines.
It's basically an oasis of educated people "not from around here" in the Deep South, founded by government grants and Nazi science.

I have a few applications in down there, but I'll definitely look for more. Thanks for the heads up!

Don`t... like... hockey?
I see the individual words but cannot comprehend them in the order you have placed them. =/

Could be fun. I have all of my hockey gear with me anywho.
I don't know I don't like hockey.
Does not compute.
Interviewed with Raytheon yesterday (via telecon). Oh man do I want that job. Took jumping through hoops to get the contact information for the interview just to send a lengthy thank you letter.

How can you like football, but not like hockey? :cyduck
Are you unable to cope with the excitement of a sport that's played for more than a few minutes at a time? Or does does hockey not have enough guys in really tight pants for your liking? :uhoh

Hahaha whole lotta people Real Mad that I'm not into hockey.
Maybe don't like is too strong a word. I'm ambivalent about it. I can casually watch hockey the same as I do basketball, soccer, or any of those back & forth games, but I don't get into it the same.
