But why does this list lack Cave Story (http://www.cavestory.org/downloads_game.php) and The Ur-Quan Masters (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php)!

Beneath A Steel Sky was a great adventure game in the Sierra/Lucasarts mould. Highly recommended. :)

I was about to call the article down and say that Open TTD was not completely free since you used to need copywritten files form the original game disc, but it appears that as of the end of 2009 the Open TTD community has completely replaced the 7000 2D sprites as well as the music and sound effects - so it is now officially and legally completely free.

I highly recommend this game for fans of Sim City or other sim/strategy games. It's addictive. I remember when I first played the game. At first I thought 'trains, trains, trains!' because they're the big money earners. But newspaper articles pop up offering subsidies for whoever can provide a certain transportation link between two locations by a certain date so it's worth it for the income bonus. Having short, smaller-scale road links between towns to supplement your immense rail network really fills out the map with life and activity. It's very satisfying when that first fully-loaded trail rolls into the depot at a power station to unload it's coal, accompanied by the little cash 'ching' as you see the profit float from the locomotive in green numbers. I thought I was so awesome when my yearly income reached £1 million. You gradually get tech upgrades from steam engines to diesel and eventually electric. Then you get monorails and eventually maglevs which are just super fast and the profits soon soar above the cost to implement them.

In the original Transport Tycoon Deluxe the tracks were all ground-based but in Open TTD, electrically-powered lines can have the suspended power system where there's a link from the top of the train to an overhead cable - I think it works the same as the powered rail version but does look good and adds variation to the tracks.

I never really bothered with air transport whenever I played it. Or sea for that matter - it's simply more fun to lay the tracks and roads and stations and depots.

Canabalt (#13) is very addictive in the same way that Robot Unicorn Attack is. But harder.
