The violet-eyed legend Elizabeth Taylor has passed away. The news is still developing, so right now this story at CNN is kind of scant.
She will be missed, such a talented and troubled but strong lady. May she rest in peace. :cry

She's been in ill health for so long, part of me is amazed she was only 79. RIP.

A true Hollywood icon and a truly beautiful and talented actress back in her day. Her performance in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? still gives me chills. She will be missed, of course, but never forgotten.

I always loved National Velvet. I think that's the only movie of her's I've actually seen.

Her film work is of course an example of one of the greats of the trade - but to me what really makes her a sad loss is the AIDS activism and especially when she took up the cause, when not much was known about the disease. She was a true leader in AIDS policy campaigning and for that alone she should be deeply thanked.
When she took up the cause, she was at the height of her fame and really did take a lot of risks personally and professionally to move this cause forward. To her it wasnt a fashion like it is with too many today. I would encourage everyone to find out more about the work and support she gave for AIDS victims
Quite an amazing life and rarely does one find such a wide ranging legacy that wont easily be forgotten.

This obituary in New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/24/movies/elizabeth-taylor-obituary.html?_r=2&hp) is actually written by someone who has been dead for 6 years. NYT thought it was too good to throw away, and published it now.
