Deep in the Unknown Sector

The first of the systems binary suns rose slowly on the world of Katareen. Steam from thousands of rivers filled the air causing a low atmospheric fog which as the second star rose brought a morning rain which gave life to the planet. Large Forests and Jungles covered most of the planets landmass.
Spread over the northern continent of this world were vast plains and lightly wooded areas untouched by industry or war. These plains were the home of a group of Duro settlers who had long been forgotten by the galaxy. Their long trek from Duro into the unknown reaches of the galaxy had long since been forgotten by story tellers and the people of Katareen know of no other home. For fifteen thousand years the world had been home. The Duro had long ago lost the technical knowledge which had allowed them to travel from planet to planet. Long ago had they forgotten from where they had once come and the name of their old world.
Now the nights sky was filled with lights which the people of Katareen thought of as sky gods. The Doran which they know called themselves had lived uninterrupted for fifteen thousand years without technology. Living as the Duro had thirty thousand years ago, as quiet family groups and small territorial clans.
War had not been forgotten but was not often waged. Peace had been a thing the Doran wanted as colonists running from the ever reaching arms of the Republic. Something they felt they could not find on Duro or any other world in the republic. It was something so solidified in them, that even now after more than seven hundred generations had passed, was still the core of their society.
A flash of light was the only warning the people of Katareen had. A flash in the darkness of space they could never have seen. A flash which with it brought the end of their world and the life they had known for so long. Above there calm world the harbinger of their fate had arrived. The end of everything and everyone they had ever known. A flash of light which brought with it a new race of people. One set on taking the world and seeing the Doran dead or enslaved. A second long bright flash of light which brought with it Scythe Squadron.

Aboard the Star Battle Cruiser Overlord, three men stood looking out onto the world from the raised observation deck. High Admiral Greth stood center as Admiral Jeffers and colonel Spears flanked him on either side. The men looked down on a the newest world to take its place among the new annexed worlds of the Perinn Sector. The planet was large with shifting shades of green and blue. From space this pristine world seemed uninhabited. A undiscovered jewel to be polished and admired.
This was not the case it seemed. Imperial scouts had indeed found life on the planet. Settlers from a long forgotten expedition had found their way here and crashed or chose to regress and live like the Neanderthal pack of animals they were. Greth admired the aliens choice to live as all aliens should. They were nothing more than beasts and should live as the animals of this world now did.
The men stood quietly gazing on the beauty of their new world. Soon this
untouched garden would be a major agri world and grow food for the billions of souls in the Perinn sector. Colonel Spears spoke first as he handed a data pad to an aide standing behind the group.

“My men are ready Admiral, We will land on the southern continent and begin securing the area for the engineers.”

Greth nodded and turned to walk away from the forward view port and down to the command walkway of the bridge. He knew the populace of the planet would offered no resistance. They had no technology from their life before coming to this world. They had no weapons to fight the Garrisons Colonel Spears had at his command. They were no threat to anyone yet they existed. They were a poison to be cured. A blight on this world He would see to cleansing. He turned to the men fallowing him don’t the ramp to the walkway.

“Admiral Jeffers, Order the Ballista and Couillard to target the indigenous populace encampments and destroy them. Colonel Spears, send a patrol to the northern continent after the bombardment and see to any survivors. I want this world clean by the time I finish my afternoon meal.”

The men saluted and then went to see to the orders they had been given. Joran Greth looked once again at the planet below them. He walked to the command area and sat in one of the five chairs positioned at the rear most of the bridge area. A small table held the drink he had left before they had exited hyperspace. It was now cold and needed replacing. Hi aide saw him looking at the glass and swiftly went into action to see that his morning caf was replaced with a warm fresh cup. He knew to do this before the Moff ask. The aide who had trained him had made that mistake. The most important thing he had learned from his former training officer was to know what Moff Greth wanted before he wanted it. He sat a fresh cup down on the table and went to stand behind the sitting area and await the next opportunity to serve the Moff.
Without a word Greth took the warm cup of caf and sipped it. He then closed his eyes and sat quietly. Today was the start of the greatest plan he had ever constructed. A plan which would see him secure his place in the galaxy and server the once great Empire he had loved.
