I am looking to write a character as an Malkite poisoner and wanted to know whether there would be any objections or suggestions as to working it in with the current timeline and political circumstance. I created this thread simply our of a desire not to step on any toes in my exploration of what I find a fascinating secret society that was never taken and expanded upon in the whole EU outside of a few books and an offhand mention in Episode II.

I haven't heard of the Malkite poisoners before. Could you tell us a little about them? :)

Malkite poisoners appear only a couple of times in Star Wars. The most notable mention of them is in Star Wars Episode Two though it isn't direct. The droid that carries the poisonous insectoids that are being used to assassinate Senator Amidala is a Malkite poisoner designed assassin droid. There are only two other mentions of them in Star Wars history as far as I know. The second most prominent is in the Han Solo trilogy. Malkite poisoners are mentioned twice in the trilogy, first as a means to kill Aruk Besadii, leader of the Besadii clan of Hutts and rival to Jiliac Desilijic, leader of the Desilijic clan of Hutts and Jabba the Hutt's uncle/aunt, and secondly in the slaver Zlarb who is believed to have killed a prominent political figure on a planet that appears later in that book. In the Han Solo trilogy, Malkite poisoners are described as a vile, hated group that sells their services for large amounts of money. Malkite poisoners are considered the best in the galaxy in what they do and keep the recipes and location of the ingredients they use in their poisons as very closely guarded secrets and membership is seemingly very difficult to obtain for fear of the divulging of said secrets. It is my interpretation of the Han Solo trilogy that even Prince Xizor had a healthy respect for the Malkite poisoners. In Old Republic history, Malkite poisoners are believed to have been used in the assassinations leading up to the rise of Contispex as Supreme Chancellor. Granted, the book where that happens I haven't read yet.
Besides all of this, I've never come across them. To me they are a subject that is begging to be creatively spun. I do have a theory that the Malkite poisoners may have once worked with Sith Alchemists in the creation of poisons and may be either an remnant of Sith alchemy that has adapted into a non-Force art of poison creation or possibly even true Sith alchemy passed down from generation to generation of Malkite poisoners. There's definitely room to play with. Have no doubt, Malkite poisoners are active assassins. They do not have the tendency to let others do their dirty work.

*facepalm* I've been reading this thread title as Malkite PRISONERS this whole time.
I would think it would be fine to play one.

I see no problems with it. I think just has do with more no one knows what the they are so they don't respond to this thread.

Looks like you're already getting started, but I'll just go ahead and concur with the consensus and say welcome to the forums! I've always felt that the RP here was more about storytelling than anything else. As long as you're not stomping on other people's toes by taking over planets that have been spoken for, or trying to pull something game-breaking like bringing in a Sun Crusher, yeah, go for it. You've got little bits of background already there in the Star Wars mythos with plenty of room to expand and develop and make them your own. Sounds golden to me.
