I just finished Mass Effect: Revelation, the prequel to the video game Mass Effect. It's written by Drew Karpyshyn, the guy who did the excellent Darth Bane trilogy. I really envy this guy - he worked on Baldur's Gate, Jade Empire, SW: KOTOR and even the new Old Republic MMORPG.

I'm reading the badly titled Atheist Delusions by David Bentley Hart, which was actually cheaper than the book it supposedly is supposed to answer (but doesn't) Dawkins's God Delusion. I'll be reading that when I have the money for it.
I pretty much have almost every book written by G. K. Chesterton, and am reading the excellent What I Saw in America. I love Project Gutenberg and I really love this Kindle.
One of my favourite books at the moment is Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking, which I've nearly finished. She is hilarious, and lot of her humour comes from being able to laugh at horrible situations, where one can either laugh or cry; she chooses to laugh, largely because she can't remember a lot of what happened in her life before having electroshock therapy done (the part on that is short but also very funny in a 'I know this is horrible' sort of way).

I knew there was a book I wanted to read but was forgetting - Wishful Drinking! Carrie Fisher's tweets infrequently but when she does it always seems to give me a chuckle. Now, to see if it's available in the Kindle store...

Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer is currently about halfway finished on my desk at work. It's a fantastic study of a sort where a journalist follows RV fans at college games to try and understand what drives sports fans. It's a very fun book.
I figure that after I finish that one, I'll probably start on Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses, since Christin got me a treasure trove of Rushdie novels.

I'm reading Chesterton right now myself. "Orthodoxy." English is a little stilted (since it was written in 1908) but I'm enjoying it.
I still need to read The Girl Who Kicked Over a Hornet's Nest and finish Chronicles of Narnia but fiction books aren't interesting me right now.
That said...I have been reading Judge Dredd a lot recently. Good stuff.

I just finished Born To Run by Christopher McDougall and cannot recommend it highly enough. Much like Charley's read, even if you're not a runner (or hell, athletic) it's fantastically engaging; a twisting chronicle of lost tribes, a crazy gringo, the evolutionary footpath and naked, drinking people.
I started Too Close To The Sun: The Audacious Life and Times of Denys Finch Hatton by Sara Wheeler this morning and am about halfway through. Also a great book - I'm loving all the historical/literary connections that the Finch-Hatton family have! For instance, their house was the inspiration for Dickens' Bleak House!

I read Atonement latelyand I think this book was really good. This is one of those books that start really slow but then hook you after the first 100 pages and once it is over you want to cry.
I can only recommend this book to you since I haven't seen the movie yet.

Orthodoxy is the book that got me started on Chesterton. He and C. S. Lewis are perhaps the authors I've spent the longest reading due to the way they phrase their sentences and their English.
Are you reading Narnia in the order that they were published (Lion, Witch, Wardrobe) or along the chronological order of the action, The Magician's Nephew being the first?
The next one I'm starting is The Man Who Was Thursday by Chesterton. I've been looking for a online version of Silence by Shusaku Endo but I can't find it anywhere, which makes me sad.

I'm currently re-reading Consider Phlebas by Iain M Banks since it's been ages since I last read it all the way through. AFter that I'll either start the next Culture novel or read one of my most recent purchases - The Wind-up Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi, For The Win by Cory Doctorow and The Temporal Void by Peter F Hamilton. But I just learned the latter is part 2 of a trilogy - damn!

You know, after playing falling in love with Rapture, I have to admit I've been curious about that book. Charley decries it as an abomination which he had to read for his studies, and I'm dubious about it myself, but I'll be interested to know what you think about it.

This month I read Game of Thrones (well, finished it this month at least, haha), The House On Mango Street, The Book Thief and The Perks of Being A Wallflower. Right now I`ve started the next in the Song of Fire and Ice series, and Dennis Lehane`s A Drink Before the War. Also started Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See and couldn`t put it down - about halfway through it now and oh man, so good.
eta: oh and How To Look Good Naked which was a massive disappointment. This is largely in part to the fact that it was done by one of those beauty magazines versus a health & fitness one (shame on me for not realizing) and therefore filled with silly tips that aren`t very useful at all. I don`t know what I was expecting but I guess it`s just a little... basic? After reading a lot of stuff by Mark Sisson and Tony Horton and Jackie Warner and Shaun T, this just fell flat. Also a lot of their advice had mostly to do with "embracing yourself for who you are" and contained lots of anecdotes from women who had "ah-ha" moments and accepted their flaws. All well and beautiful but pretty trite in the end.

Still haven't read The Hunger Games. My sister-in-law has the trilogy though so I'm set for borrowing them soon!
Recently read (in the last four weeks):
A Dance with Dragons (http://www.amazon.com/Dance-Dragons-Song-Fire-Book/dp/0553801473/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314217098&sr=1-1)- G. R. R. Martin (1040 pages)
Ghost Story (http://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Story-Dresden-Files-No/dp/045146379X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314217081&sr=1-1) - Jim Butcher (496 pages)
Ghost Country (http://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Country-Patrick-Lee/dp/0061584444/ref=pd_sim_b_1) - Patrick Lee (384 pages)
The Breach (http://www.amazon.com/Breach-Patrick-Lee/dp/0061584452/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314217043&sr=1-1) - Patrick Lee (384 pages) - I read both of these in one day, and in the wrong order. The Breach is supposed to be first, btw, oops.
Directive 51 (http://www.amazon.com/Directive-51-John-Barnes/dp/B0042P571Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314216992&sr=8-1) - John Barnes (496 pages) - This book is DENSE but totally worth reading. One of those books where you can tell the author did a LOT of research for.
The Windup Girl (http://www.amazon.com/Windup-Girl-Paolo-Bacigalupi/dp/1597801585/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314217141&sr=1-1) - Paolo Bacigalupi (300 pages) - This is a multiple award winner, but seemed at times to have its head up it's own bottom. There were a lot of things that the author did not expand upon, which I would have loved to read more about - there is a fascinating history behind the world that we find ourselves thrown into, but it was never really talked about beyond hints here and there. Also the ending was a little "What. :|" Still! Its a good book and talks about things I've never seen before in a sci-fi book - what happens when companies genetically engineer food and then genetically engineer viruses and plagues that their food is immune too, and then strangle the world economy (and kill millions) with their greed, and where foods are lost and extinct because they were wiped out a century ago by some genehacked plague. It's very fascinating. I guess I want to read the prequel where all of that happens, this book deals with the world as it is after this has happened.

It's pretty... unique. The magic system isn't like anything I've ever read before, although so far I feel like there is maybe too much telling and not enough showing happening. I know this is only part of a series though so perhaps the author is just trying to get a lot of groundwork done for what's to come. I am enjoying the audio book anyway :)

Finally went about getting my replacement Kindle, and used my amazon gift card (Birthday gift!) to go on a book spree.
A Portable MFA in Creative Writing by the New York Writers' Workshop - looking forward to this one, as it has plenty of exercises and such that I plan on using for Ben and Onashi's stories, as well as some of the stuff I'm trying to get published.
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen - Haven't heard or read much about it; any thoughts, those of us who have read it?
The Frozen Sky by Jeff Carlson - a science fiction short story about meeting alien life on Europa. What else did I need to draw me in?
Pagan by Andrew Chapman - From what I heard, it's about a guy who is part of a government agency whose particular goal is to hunt down vampires, werewolves, and other such things, while along the way seeing how much of that he can do either drunk or hung over.
There are a couple other things, but these are the ones I'll be reading over the next week or so; if the hurricane hits, well, I'm prepared!

Finished a couple more Chesterton books: Ireland, Bernard Shaw, The Man Who Was Thursday, and one or two others.
Finished Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen. Pretty good. The best parts are those where the main character is in the nursing home. The others are interesting, but not particularly gripping.
About halfway through John Dies at the End; again, this is awesome. Some awesome quotes:
"He says when you're dealing with any kind of supernatural beings, Gods and Devils and angels, you tend to think about them like hurricanes or earthquakes, some kind of mindless force of nature. But if they're real, then they have minds. They know your name. So even reading about the Devil tips him off, he knows instantly he's being read about and that you're somebody he may have to deal with."
---
"John, let me make one thing clear," Jim said, cutting me off in his most stern, evangelical voice. "Every man is blessed with his gifts from the Lord. One of mine happens to be a penis large enough that, if it had a penis of its own, my penis's penis would be larger than your own."
---
"You got any final requests, in case this don't end well?"
"Yeah. Avenge my death."
---
Fred said, "Man, I think he's gonna make a fuckin' suit of human skin, using the best parts from each of us."
"Holy crap," said John. "He'll be gorgeous."

I am reading Russell Brand's Booky Wook 2, which I just started with earlier. I found his humor very witty and filled with substance. I know that there is not much audience to that type of humor as some can find them not funny often bordering annoying but as for anything, he has his share of good followers as well.
The book is actually about how he came to be, I mean what he is now often sharing stuff about the past that made him tough as nails.

Well, since the beginning of the year, I've read through the first three books of GRRM's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series - I've two more books to go until I'm caught up. Unless he puts out book six before that happens... which is unlikely.
In addition with other books I blew through my initial goal of 12 books (even those 'Fifty Shades of Grey' books, ugh... such terrible writing!), despite school, so I tacked on another 12. I've got 8 books to my goal and with a little over two weeks left in the year?
It's doable. Especially after I finish with my last exam on Tuesday. I devoured 'Thirteen' by Kelley Armstrong and right now I'm trying to resist inhaling 'Cold Days' by Jim Butcher as I have an exam in two days. O.O

Is that the one where Carol Danvers is Captain Marvel?

Yep! It's excellent. Since I'm anticipating a drop off in the quality of Batgirl soon, with Gail Simone getting the boot, I thought I'd try and find another female-lead book to pick up... and Captain Marvel has not disappointed so far.

Is the Stormlight Archive the Way of Kings?
Mistborn was terrific. Loved it. Loved the ending. Tried the sample of The Alloy of Law but can't afford it right now. :(
I got Wool from the iBook store so I'm into that now.

Yes, Stormlight is Way of Kings.
I've had that book in my bookcase most of the year... and haven't gotten to reading it yet. |I A very good friend of mine suggested it to me when we were in a bookstore earlier this year. :)

I only have Batwoman and Batgirl on subscription from DC at the minute, although the main Batman series is great too. The Night of the Owls arc that crossed over into most of the Bat-family titles was excellent.
I think most of the New 52 titles have gone through their first major story arc or two by this point, so I might try out a couple of other titles in the new year. Animal Man gets a lot of praise and I know I enjoyed the first few issues that I read. Likewise for Swamp Thing.

I'm listening to A Clash of Kings and reading/participating in The Artist's Way.
I have The Dresden Files all on audio, which I think (if i ever get through A Song of Ice and Fire) will be my next series. Been doing most of Orson Scott Card's (Alvin Maker, Mithermages, Pathfinder) series, but I'm currently waiting for books to be published.

What do I want to be reading? Kelley Armstrong's next book 'Omens', starting a new adult series, as the otherworld series has concluded, pretty much. I know it doesn't come out until August, but...
I WON AN ADVANCE READER COPY! Ahahaha. This makes my week, honestly.
I haven't read a lick of fiction (aside from reading RPs) since sometime in January. Thinking about it makes me slightly sad. :(

This has actually been a really fun read and can be used as resource material for all things ancient sith. It covers the origin of the Sith, as a group, along with the development of their weapons, magic, and alchemy among other things. I've barely scratched the surface of this book and it's been great.

I might just join you on that, Mu. This will be my third attempt. Not that it's a hard or unenjoyable read. And I'm putting off watching any of the TV show because of it, so... third time's a charm? :)

The first book of the adventures of "Dunk and Egg" by GRRM. In this book Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon Targaryen the 5th team up as Knight and Squire to travel Westeros. The story is set 90 years before a song of Ice and Fire.
The German publisher who owns the rights to the Song of Ice and Fire published a compilation of all 3 short stories by GRRM that so far have been only available in 3 seperate anthologies. So far this is really enjoyable since the world is basicly the same as in aSoIaF but the stakes are not that high. This does not mean that it does not have the typical GRRM twists and death toll.

Just finished Steelheart and The Alloy of Law both of which I assumed were stand alone books by Brandon Sanderson because of the other book series he has going on but NO there are obviously plans for more and I'm glad because they were excellent.
If you haven't read any Sanderson you should immediately. The Alloy of Law takes place 300 or so years after the events of his Mistborn (very good) trilogy in the same world, where they are now comparable to our 1800s, and it is pretty awesome. I love his idea of taking the fantasy world and progressing it to a modern age (another planned trilogy of which The Alloy of Law is not a part) and then to a futuristic society.
Steelheart is his take on a superhero story and it's great.

After finishing rereading 'Guards! Guards!' I started 'Death Troopers', by Joe Schreiber, and immediately fell in love with it. It's not overly complex but reads very much like a loving fan fiction that the likes of us here at 'Fans might write. I can't help but feel that this book takes place outside of the canon, what with it's on the spot invented races and more modern plot elements; but it is still distinctly Star Wars. I've only gone a few short chapters in but I can't wait to read more. It goes down smooth.
