I've noticed over the years that there isn't a lot of discussion about music. While I have no musical skills myself, I do have a pretty keen set of ears and headphones. I figured we could start a thread discussing music, not necessarily reviewing it.

As many members know, I listen to almost every genre of music.

Here's a few albums and artists I've really enjoyed this year:

The Deftones came out with a new album, Diamond Eyes. In my opinion, it's probably better than White Pony, my previous favorite.

You've Seen the Butcher is highlight. It has a darkness to the entire song, a sense of danger that few acts capture. The whole album is solid.

I've also discovered (For me!) Devin Townsend and his related projects, Strapping Young Lad, The Devin Townsend Band, and the Devin Townsend Project.

Devin never takes himself seriously, except for the production. His production is excellent, and he does it himself, mostly.

His most recent release is Addicted! which heavily features Anneke van Giersbergen, formerly of The Gathering. It adds a different vocal texture from Townsend's own wide range, and a great re-telling of the song Hyperdrive, from the Ziltoid the Omniscient album. Ziltoid might be my favorite album on the sole basis of being completely absurd.

I also got a chance to listen to Ludacris's Battle of the Sexes. It's one of his better efforts, and the video for "How Low" is simply fun. B.O.T.S Radio with I-20 is one of the better tracks from a Hip Hop context. The production on the track is great.

Speaking of the ATL, Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is incredible. About as good as Atlanta hiphop gets. Fo Yo Sorrows has George Clinton in it. What else do you need?

King Fantastic is a surprising fusion of LA gangster rap and electronic music. Finger Snaps and Gun Claps is available for free on the website. If you like that sort of thing, check it out. There is a video on Vimeo of Where? Why?What? that is very not work safe.

Oh yeah, these guys, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) and John Paul Jones (a little British act called Led Zeppelin) banded together to make something a bit dark and funky. Making the possible totally impossible since 2009, but also making great music.

Why have I still not gotten into Devin Townsend, I am fail.

I have been listening to very little new music lately, but since I just got Spotify Premium I have been trying to build a bunch of 'new music' playlists to listen to on the way to and from work -- so if anyone else is on spotify and has playlists to share, lemme know.

If not, I will have to compile some myself from this thread!
