http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/games/mass-effect-3-release-pushed-back-to-q1-2012/

Canadian game developer BioWare announced at the end of last year that the trilogy-capping Mass Effect 3 would launch during the 2011 holiday season. This is no longer case. Casey Hudson, the series’ executive producer, took to Facebook yesterday to let fans know that release has been pushed back a bit, into 2012.

“Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012,” he wrote. “The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.”

This is a smart move. For all of the steps forward it takes, most fans agree that Dragon Age 2 suffered in some fundamental ways because of what they perceive to be a rushed development timeline. There’s a similar danger with ME3, as it was set to follow DA2‘s lead in releasing a sequel just one year after its predecessor. Or there was a similar danger, until that release got pushed back. Don’t be surprised if another delay rears up before Q1 2012.

Last month Tom [from PC GAMER] spoke to the executive producer on the Mass Effect series, Casey Hudson, about your romance options in Mass Effect 3. While ME3 will introduce new characters, including new squadmates, Casey says all your romance options will be with familiar faces. And since all the romance options from Mass Effect 1 are back as full time squadmates, many players are going to have some awkward moments when their old flame meets the new squeeze.

Everyone with any sense knows that despite the images on the box, website and indeed all marketing material, the correct way to play Mass Effect is with a female Commander Shepard. BioWare, it seems, has been listening to the very dedicated FemShep fans out there (she has her own website and everything) -- Director of Marketing David Silverman noted on Twitter this Tuesday that "there will be a #FemShep trailer. We actually had a meeting on her yesterday. We are working on the look now."

As well as having her own trailer, FemShep will also appear on the Collector's Edition box of Mass Effect 3 -- Silverman confirmed this after further fan pestering.

So it is decided: ME3 Collector's Edition it is. BTW is it kind of crazy that every time I borrow my Xbox or move it over a long distance I make a security copy of my Shepards since I consider my savegames that accumulate like 150-200h of my life more valuable than the Xbox itself.

When I first encountered the Reapers in ME1 I knew they'd come to Earth. The fascination with human-kind in ME2 only confirmed the suspicion. Since I knew (from the original incarnation) that there would be a trilogy, and subsequently (if all goes according to plan) a movie, this seems like quite the finish. As per usual, BioWare has done a great job with this series.

I love all of the advertising they've done for this. I saw a walkthrough of some of the early bits (can't remember if it was in this thread or not, and I'm too lazy to check) which showed some of the gameplay-to-cinematic transitions too: they're incredibly fluid, and the graphics look stunning.

What does $79.99 translate to in the Queen's currency, Jen? :ohno

Dasquian Belargic

Sadly, it doesn't translate well. It was £69.99 preorder from GAME. They don't take the money until its about to be shipped so if there's a price drop, it costs less. If there's a rise, it just stays at £69.99. I have a GAME loyalty card so I got a couple of quid off.

The boring squadmate is basically there in case you killed Ashley. You're down to Tali, Liara, Garrus, and whoever survived Virmire in this game. With no Wrex, you're pretty much shafted if you're anything other than a soldier yourself.

I saw the temporary squadmate in a playthrough / interview on youtube somewhere (I'll try and dig it out). It looks awesomesauce.

I've been watching The Cape recently. Part of me hopes there's a character in ME3 called Vince Faraday, because that name sounds epic when Anderson says it... :uhoh

here's a question for y'all. I have a code in my pre-owned Mass Effect 2 game for some special armor, but that code expired next year. Now it says that I can access the cerberus network on the box, but if I buy the 1200 microsoft points DLC will I actually be able to use it? I don't want to throw my money away, but I do want cool DLC stuff

Crusader
Aug 6th, 2011, 01:58:11 AM
Try to redeem the code. If it fails you will have to pay the 1200MS Points for the cerberus DLC. Welcome to Project 10 Dollars.

This was actually meant to destroy Gamestop's business model of selling used games just $10 cheaper instead of selling new copies where the developers would profit from.

*shrug* Halo seems to cope with a similar situation. Granted, it isn't such a high-brow story game, but there are enough examples of RPGs with cooperative and multiplayer modes that there's the ground work for Bioware to cook up something good.

After all the awesome and inovative ideas they've come up with for SW TOR, hasn't Bioware earned a little faith? :ohno

Dasquian Belargic
Aug 10th, 2011, 01:50:16 PM
When the game is focused so heavily on story - and not just story, but the players unique story, colored by all of their choices in the preceding games - I just don't know how multiplayer will work or have any appeal for me. It just feels as if it would be something unnecessarily tacked on, like it was with BioShock 2.

Couldn't players inhabit the various NPC character that form up Shepards team? Taking turns to play the role of Shepard.

So instead of having that big frog looking guy, you could replace him with your buddy Jim bob from down the street? Sounds sort of fun to recruit from your real life friends for your missions instead of your NPC crew. Again I haven't played any of the mass effect games so this is purely ignorant conjecture.

Whatever it is I'm sure it will be totally optional so I wouldn't fret.

I'd much rather they just did a stand-alone Mass Effect co-op MMORPG thing where you make your own random dude after the reaper saga. Some schmoe earns credits to buy a ship or cheat modes and buys one for like 3000 microsoft points or something and then you go mine rocks or kick puppies in a post-reaper era galaxy

Inyos Aamoran
Aug 11th, 2011, 02:45:08 AM
That's not necessarily off the cards, particularly if SW-TOR goes well. But there's a big difference between co-op / FPS multiplayer and an MMO.

You may think it's unnecessary and tacked on... personally, I think that at least some people are going to have fun with it; and it's never a waste of time if someone ends up having fun. It's not like Bioware is going to come around and break your fingers if you decide you don't like it and choose not to play. *shrug*

Dasquian Belargic
Aug 11th, 2011, 12:45:52 PM
I'm sure it will be totally optional and hey maybe it will be fun. I just wish Bioware would focus their attention on one gameplay type at a time. What makes a good singleplayer game is so different from what makes a good multiplayer game, and although Bioware have done a decent job with multiplayer in the past (Neverwinter Nights) a lot of that was down to the flexibility the player had to become a dungeon master, create their own campaigns etc. With Mass Effect being a cross-platform title, I don't think that level of customisation would really be achievable, but who knows.. I might be eating my omni-tool this time next year.

Captain Untouchable
Aug 11th, 2011, 02:36:26 PM
The team developing multiplayer is entirely separate from the main ME3 development team. They're treating it as two separate projects, to avoid having to deprive resources from the main development team for the side game, and to avoid compromising the main game's gameplay to "multiplayerize" it. (Yes, I know that's not a word :uhoh)

That's an interesting thought. Hadn't considered about what you do with the collector base being an factor in the story of ME3. Though I have to think not, as it would almost be like building two games if they did.

Unless it's set up so that the situation is approximately the same, and on one hand you fight Cerberus if you blew up the base, and on the other you fight against the Alliance if you didn't, but the tech and levels are the same basically the same and so it's almost like they just change the skins on the enemies.

I waited 4 hours in line at gamescom and still no offical word about multiplayer but now I have played 10min of a mission and I got myself some Omniblades, 2 ME3 Posters and a little Normandy 2 for my Xbox360 Avatar.

The mission was set on the Salarian homeworld. Mordin was back and you had to defend him while he was taking care of a "fertile" Krogan female. He and the female where in a pot which you had to guide to the top of a structure by using switches. On top Wrex was supposed to pick you up with a ship. "Wrex would never let a fertile Krogan slip through his hands would he?". You had to battle your way up together with Liara and Garrus against indoctrinated Cerberus soldiers with jetpacks and shields.

Most of the time I let the soldiers get pinned by my teammates and then finished them in melee. The new melee animations are good but far away from games like Gears of War or Assassins Creed.

I wonder if this mission is optional depending on the choices you made in ME2 concerning Mordin's student. The setting would fit for my choices in ME2 my Trisha Shepard convinced Mordin to keep the research of his student and saved the Reaper base from destruction for Cerberus research.
Gameplay was good and so was the voice over the battle against the super mech at the end was kind of awkward because once I got hit by a rocket I knew that this presentation had godmode on.

Ancient machines threaten the Earth, and only you are in a position to stop them: What do you do? Well, one of the things you can do is make a complete mess of it and let angry mechanical star gods destroy the whole planet. BioWare has let slip that one of the possible endings in Mass Effect 3 is that Commander Shepard can fail to stop the Reapers, thus dooming the Earth, and the entire galaxy.

I really don't get why everyone is hating on the idea of Mass Effect multiplayer.

It was built by a totally different team (so didn't take resources away from the main game), it's outside the main story so doesn't detract from that, and the entire game concept is squad based anyway: what's the big deal about having a human controlling things rather than an AI? :huh

Because if I'd bet a penny I'd bet a pound, this is the reason why it was delayed. Fuck that, just bundle a standalone game in the ME universe that lets you get your rocks off on multiplay.

There's a big FAQ on http://masseffect.bioware.com/me3/game/multiplayer

Notably:

Which characters can I play in co-op multiplayer? Can I play as Commander Shepard?

Commander Shepard's part in the war will take place in the single-player campaign, as will that of other beloved characters in the franchise such as Garrus, Ashley, and Liara...these characters do not appear in the multiplayer missions.

In multiplayer, players will create custom characters to fight on different and unique fronts in the war. This will include the ability to play as favorites like Turians, Krogans, Asari and more... each with their own unique set of abilities.

What if I don't like multiplayer - will my experience be negatively impacted?

Mass Effect 3 is a complete, standalone game that will deliver a satisfying story experience, even if you choose not to try multiplayer.

The Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system and all of the individual components are meant to complement that amazing game and can be enjoyed on their own or as part of the Galaxy at War experience.

So effectively you don't ever need to play multiplayer and you can still experience the game as it should be experienced :)

So effectively you don't ever need to play multiplayer and you can still experience the game as it should be experienced :)

But playing multiplayer has an impact on your victory conditions. That's a pretty damn clever idea: you get to multiplay as the characters fighting in the background while Sheppard is running around performing awesomeness.

Interesting that the co-op mode is four player, though. I guess that's a fairly typical number of players to have for a multiplayer game; but I'm a little surprised they didn't stick with the standard three-man team which is a bit of a Bioware signature.

Dasquian Belargic
Oct 12th, 2011, 01:41:30 PM
I'm just glad that "you can reach the highest levels of success in the single player experience alone" because the battles that I am interested in seeing and playing in this game are the ones that involve Shepard and her squad. Their stories are the ones I'm invested in and have kept me hooked all along :)

Captain Untouchable
Oct 12th, 2011, 01:49:20 PM
I don't think there was ever any reason to doubt that? The multiplayer feature was always going to be an "extra". That's why they had a completely separate design team working on it.

I'm just glad that it's not too separate. Throwing in multiplayer could have been a box-ticking gimick, but Bioware has found a way to link it back to the main game.

Just caught some of the demo footage on Youtube. I take back what I said about the new FemShep - she may not look like what I'm used to, but she really fits the voice. I may be using her after all! You'll be pleased to know that Original FemShep is still the default setting for custom appearence, though.

Things on Earth look pretty damn snazzy from what I've seen. The uniforms are pretty cool, and they seem to have tossed in some Battlestar Galactica style dynamic camera movements: the intro seems to have even more of a cinematic field than the prequels did.

I've only seen him for a few seconds so far, but I'm already warming to the new guy. He seems like a dependable sort of chap: like Ashley, but without the grating voice and personality.

My only concern at this point is the scale of FemShep. The gun she's given during the intro is just a pistol, and yet it's bloody massive. I've been playing FemShep as a Soldier and BroShep as an Infiltrator thus far: but if a pistol seems too big for FemShep, I'm a little worried about how the larger weapons are going to end up looking.

Honestly at least he is not Emo-Kaiden or the token black guy from Mass Effect 2 that no one really cared about.

Plus Vega is voiced by Freddie Prince Jr. and he is married to Sarah Michelle Gelllar. So someone that gets to screw Buffy on a regular basis must be badass as a companion.

I think the "hate" for Vega pretty much boils down to the fact that he isn't someone else. Granted, all we knew about the guy for a long time was that he was going to "represent the perspective of a new player to the franchise", which makes him sound like a complete noob who is going to ask annoying questions... but I think people are more bothered that we've got him "instead of" Wrex, or "instead of" Mordin Solus, and so forth.

He seems to me like an ideal replacement for Ashley, so I'm all for having him around. I just need to work out who I'm going to team him up with.

I owned that demo so hard. :smokin

I really like the way the cinematics blend into the gameplay: not just the cutscenes, but the random "ohhhh shiiiit" stuff as well. I was expecting it to be annoying, but the fact that the HUD trips off and on again means that you know the instant that you can carry on; none of this trying to move but not being able to that happens in other games.

I still don't like shotguns, but the second half of the demo gave me a Mattock and a full auto SMG. In ME2 you had to sacrifice full auto if you wanted a big beefy large calibre gun like the Mattock. I wonder what that means for the other classes (the ones who had an SMG instead of an assault rifle), and where other weapons like sniper rifles and grenade launchers will fit into Shepard's arsenal.

Also, how awesome do all of the Systems Alliance uniforms look? Whenever I manage to get myself out to the states for a con, I am totally using it as an excuse to buy me some of Anderson's wardrobe. :3

Edit:

Jenny brought up on twitter the thing about turning off dialogue choices, and whether or not that would mean there is a canon story.

Technically, isn't there one already? It's been a while, but if you didn't have that comic book intro DLC (the one that let you re-make every decision from ME), didn't Mass Effect 2 have some default settings for the ending of the first game (what happened to the Council, etc) and what-not? I'd assume that if you don't import a save into ME3, you'd get some defaults for what happened in ME2 as well... so I guess that's sort of the canon storyline? A basic one, at least.

Either way, it'll be interesting to see what convo options end up getting picked automatically, and what that means for how Shepard ends up getting characterized. I'm tempted to play through in that mode at some point, just to see how close the developers' version of Shepard is to my version.

Have to go the opposite way as you. I love the shotgun. I run femshep as a Vanguard so almost all of my fighting is done at a few arms length.

Nova is a great new ability to have.....and screw the omni blade, I bunch people with biotics and send them flying (seriously, the Vangaurd doesn't get the omni blade......you just beat the shit out of people).

Biotic Charge is always fun and can jump you around the field quickly. Having the shotgun as a support weapon is great as I fuck shit up with my biotics at close range.

The riot-shield guys are annoying for me, though.

Captain Untouchable
Feb 15th, 2012, 05:50:25 AM
I think the reason I hate the shotgun so much is because I had so much fun in ME1. I stuck in the high explosive (I think?) rounds, which overheated it after one shot, but absolutely obliterated the target. In ME2 though, I got maybe two-dozen shots out of the thing, and it didn't kill things noticeably faster than my pistol did at close range. I hope I can swap it out for something - right now it's just a thing glued to FemShep's ass that makes it harder to sit down. :\

The trick I found with the riot shield guys is to go for the leg with your pistol. A well-aimed shot there is enough to make them stumble and expose more of themselves. Alternatively, I just shot the shield with the Mattock which made them recoil backwards, and then shot them in the groin a couple of times. :lol

I like the way the powers / abilities work. Having two options at Tier 4+ is cool - it feels a lot more like I can have my own "build" for Shepard, and the colourful bar things make it a lot easier to work out the benefits I'm actually getting.

If I remember right.. you have a conversation at the start of the game with Jacob who asks you if you can remember what happened before you were revived, which basically will determine who lived/died/etc. Similar to what you did at the beginning of the ME3 demo, but it was actually played out as dialogue.

I always thought that stuff like whether or not you let the Rachni live, if you gave the Collectors base to Cerberus or if you got Talizorah exiled, could have huge impacts on the way that the final third of the story plays out, so it would be really interesting to see how the game plays if you make literally no input to the story and just let it select choices for you! Part of me hopes that it would make random choices, since I have always been of the belief that there is no true canon story for Shepard - aside from obvious things that you can't alter, like them being a Spectre or being rebuilt by Cerberus at the beginning of ME2.

Well if he has survived Mass Effect 2. The only problem is that the initial plotline for Verner was altered since you can't meet the paragon outcome of him on Illium due to the fact that Mass Effect 1 glitches the paragon choice to renegade no matter what you did.

My origin username is jenoir if anyone wants to add me and try some multiplayer ME3.

Glen Fiddich
Feb 18th, 2012, 04:19:44 PM
Tried to add you as a friend earlier Jenny, but Origin was waaaay overloaded: took ten minutes just to log in. >_< Will add you later - I'm (surprisingly) o6untouchable.

Tried out a little multiplayer today. The demo is pretty light - both on variety and explanation - but after a playthrough or two you'll probably get the hang of it. In a nutshell, the game mode in the demo consists of a 4-player PvE shooter with nine waves. Some of those waves have certain targets that you need to kill within a time limit; and each wave seems to vary in composition, sometimes boasting snipers or stealth users, sometimes having biotics, and sometimes having those fuck-off giant mecha suit things. There is also an "extraction" at the end, where you have to retreat to and hold a landing zone. Each mach lasts about 20 minutes.

Powers seem to be a slimmed down version of what you get in game, with different "characters" having different powers (eg. the Quarian Engineer has a certain combination of three powers, while the Salarian Engineer has a different combo). If you complete the entire match you get a buttload of experience, so you can level up quite quickly.

You also earn credits, which allow you to buy boxes that contain five random items. Items include single use buffs, weapon upgrades and new weapons, one-shot missile launchers, and new characters: this is how you unlock other races. The more expensive the box, the better the chance you have of getting uncommon items.

To make life a little more complicated, you are only allowed to equip two weapons to each character: and it looks like they have to be from different categories (so a Soldier can't have two assault rifles, an Adept can't have two SMGs, etc). The equipping weapons menu seems to be super xbox friendly: it took me a while to work out that the unlabelled spaces on my screen are meant to represent where on your character's back the weapon clips on. (It seems obvious once you know ^_^;)

If you already play multiplayer shooters, it isn't anything to write home about. It's sort of the Mass Effect version of playing Left 4 Dead with your mates - something fun as a social activity every now and again, but not something to obsess over.

That said, it is pretty useful if you want to test out / get the hang of playing a different class to normal, and for getting to grips with the tweaked movement system, the way cover works now, and for practicing take-down tactics against mobs with riot shields, and that sort of thing.

Dasquian Belargic
Feb 19th, 2012, 04:45:22 PM
It's alright. Nothing to write home about, but pretty inoffensive as far as multiplayer content goes. I can't see myself playing much of it based on what I've seen so far.

In more exciting news, 19 days to go til ME3 is released in Europe!

It's worth bearing in mind that any cock-ups with distribution of different versions, or at different retailers are the fault of EA, not of Bioware. I know we're all smart enough to realise the distinction, but there's a hell of a lot of hate backlash against Bioware connected to this game, and it's not necessarily their fault. :(

Technologically speaking, I don't understand what is so special about voice recognition on the Kinect.

I had a game called SOCOM on the Playstation 2 ten years ago, and that let me do voice commands to move my squad about. The game compared the input from the microphone to a library of stock phrases, and went with the nearest match. It probably wasn't quite as good at listening as the Kinect... but voice recognition in games is hardly new technology.

Did Microsoft switch things up? Is the Kinect importing the phrase library from the game, running the comparison internally, and then exporting back the corresponding 'keystroke'? Or is it that they just "left out" the relevant code from the PC format of the game, and just included it for xbox to jump on the Kinect bandwagon?

If not, I don't get why the PC version couldn't just let you talk at it with a USB microphone. :\

Dasquian Belargic
Mar 4th, 2012, 05:57:07 AM
I'm guessing that they are hoping for/planning for more motion detection Games for Windows that the Kinect can use, since that's the main application of the Xbox Kinect right now.

Also, they want more money of course! Why let us talk into our mics when they could sell us a piece of kit that's three times the price of the game we're playing it with.

Captain Untouchable
Mar 4th, 2012, 06:25:41 AM
If the game was developed by Microsoft, then maybe the money thing would make sense. But I'm not sure it makes sense when you bar in mind that Bioware/EA are the ones making the game. As long as units sell, it makes no difference to them whether they're on PC or Xbox... and since EA publishes a lot of PC-heavy games (and has Origin) they might actually lose out if people start migrating away from PC gaming towards console gaming, so I'm not sure it's in their best interests.

Dasquian Belargic
Mar 4th, 2012, 06:50:29 AM
Presumably some kind of agreement was made between EA and Microsoft to utilise the Kinect for ME3 on the PC as well as the Xbox, because they've pushed the Kinect pretty hard in some of the promotional stuff I've seen on Youtube. EA publishes plenty of console titles and most of its games are cross-platform so I can't see them worrying about losing sales one way or the other.

Crusader
Mar 4th, 2012, 08:35:10 AM
There is a deal between Microsoft and EA to incorporate Kinect into games. Mass Effect 3 is one of the better examples where the features make sense while Ubisoft's gunsmith mode for Ghost Recon got some bad press in advance.

Forcing people to use only kinect makes sense from an artistic point of view: I guess we can all agree that Mass Effect 3 is the best SciFi movie of the decade so far and so it should be enjoyed on a 30inch plus HD television and a proper 5.1 system and not on a 4:3 monitor with a $30 headset on. Kinect allows you to bark coments at the TV even while you have the volume turned all the way up due to it`s four built in microphones that can tell the difference between ambient, game and actual player sound. No klunky headset required.

But if they would have really wanted to sell systems they should have added kinect exclusive sex mini games with Garrus and Liara.

Sanis Prent
Mar 4th, 2012, 08:44:34 AM
The great thing about kinect commands is how organic it makes squad combat. Mind you it's not a hardship to go into the squad menu and tell a particular person in your unit to use a particular power, but that little break in the action can be jarring. You feel way more in the moment when a Cerberus mech rockets down on your LZ and you can just shout "Overload!" and you know Garrus has your back. It also makes the game quite playable to the point where the only buttons you really need to know are ones that make you move and shoot. I love that level of immersion

I agree with Charley. This game is dark and emotional as hell.

I'm playing on PC, Jen

Been playing quite a bit too. I've been wanting to post everytime something interesting or cool happened, but I've been refraining. Mostly because I don't want to spoil things for people.

But.....really I have no idea what. The size and scope of what's been going is nuts.

From the Normandy being one crazy animal house (actually there was an incident where it was kind of like the Animal House movie.....). Vega got Ash shit-face and I found her passed out on the floor moaning about a headache and how the floor of the cabin was so very nice and cold

To hearing all the chaos and heartbreak in the galaxy just from NPCs. I want the Illusive Man to burn over and over, hell is too nice a place for him. I don't think a freaking game has provoked that kind of response out of me

Be careful on the following, it has some hefty spoliers.

My own sadness at seeing several of my good friends dies.....Mordin......Thane.......Legion......Kelly Chambers. Why are my friends all leaving? :(

The horror that the reapers are doing to other race...and what some races are doing.........an entire colony committed suicide by rigging nukes on over their entire planet....as soon as the reapers landed they detonated the bombs.....tens of millions of people committed mass suicide.......

But there are also so many things out there giving hope. Allies joining me, miracles being pulled off. There are a few heart raising moments out there, and many opportunities just to spend time with friends and crew memeber.

More spoilers, a few minor, a few major.

Hell Garrus and I spent time at the highest part of the Presidium skeet shooting shit we chucked of the edge.......or attending a funeral with Ashley......finally seeing Tali's face (my romance option) and listening talk about setting up a house on the homeworld.

This by far has been one of the craziest and most immersive games I've played. Just seeing how all of my decisions played out and everything. Probably the best game I've played too in all aspects.

I decided to replay ME1 to get a max level character to play through ME2 and then, finally, ME3. I've only played the Soldier class extensively before and am rather enjoying the change of pace I found in playing an Engineer.

I have to admit that someday I want to let my entire Crew die in ME2 to see the consequences in ME3.

I notice that as an infiltrator I honestly don't use many power. Hell even most of the time I don't use tactical cloak as I 1-shot most enemies and only use it if I need to hide to run to cover.

The Blackwidow is a great sniper rifle. 3-round clips mean I can harvest through almost any enemy. Max Disruptor ammo also helps me clean through annoying shields.

That's why they introduced Vega: otherwise, if you made everyone die in ME2, your squad would have consisted of you and Ashley or Kaidan. :uhoh

Everywhere seems to be sold out of the Collector's Edition now. Need to decide whether I should wait it out and try to get the CE when it's back in stock, or just bite the bullet and get a normal copy. :(

Tactical cloak owns because you can get to the point where you fire off a power from within cloak as a free attack AND THEN you get a massive bonus on your conventional strike. So yes, I will max cloak, max incinerate, and then hit with the widow with maximum bonus because that just shreds

So, finished the game (Damn I really did go through this fast). I'll put my thoughts on the ending in spoiler tags, but will try to avoid any plot details for those still playing.

Please don't read until you finish as well.

What. The. Fuck. That has to be the most disappointing ending in almost any game I've played. I really feel like we got jipped here. For the record I went full paragon, spent a lot of time making sure all of my crew stayed alive, and spent a lot of time on the romance arc with Tali.

And in the end all of the story, all of the immersion, all of the interaction is pretty much for nothing? The ending entirely depends only on the choice to destroy or preserve the collector base and the effective military strength.....paragon/renegade make no difference.

And even with that you have the option to choose one of three endings (for each military score 'bracket' it's a bit different). And went an did all the choices from saves....but all of them....well.....they just sucked.

There is almost no closure, it really doesn't end on a high note at all, and it seems like all of the work and effort to make such a unique story for your character is just shot out the window.

I mean seriously? The reason for the Reapers is that freaking simplified?

And the endings.....we just spent the last 3 games working against all odds to unite the galaxy in harmony. I mean, I don't expect a hunky-dory ending by any means. But doing my best to be an expemplar of the paragon tracks.....I still get the same ending options with no story closure?

And no matter what you do the mass relays are destroyed. What message does that give? Despite all of your efforts the galaxy is now completely divided with each race scattered about. There is no communication. There is no hope of a peaceful galactic civilization working together.

And what about the Normandy, why the hell were they jumping through a mass relay when the Crucible fired? And how did my crew from the ground fight get on the ship? And then what? They crash-land on an unknown world full of plant life and shiney scenes......uh....guess what they're the only ones there....there is no hope of rescue without the mass relays......how is that an ideal ending......they're all dead without an chance to escape.

What happens to the rest of the galaxy in this supposed "Paragon" ending. Where is the closure? What's the reward for being the best "good guy" I could (or even "bad guy" considering paragon/renegade really has no meaning).

And even the final battle....where were the rachni, the Elcor, the Volus, the Batarians, Aria's army of mercs. The minor characters I really came to like as well. What happened to them?

And worst of all:

After the whole heart-wrenching dialogue and exchanges with all the different characters over the course of the games in prep for the final battle.....especially the interaction with Tali (my romance option) and the hopeful talk to building a house on Rannoch and being together. Where was the acknowledgement to all the friends and allies that died?

Organics and Synthetics working together (Geth/Quarrian/whatever), restoring Thesia (seriously, I got teary eyed watching the planet fall), seeing the Krogan rise and reintegrate, watching Earth be rebuilt.

Where is all of that (last two paragraphs)? I just feel so disappointed and underwhelmed after all of that.....

What the hell, bioware......after all that fantastic story....why end it with no closure....why end it the same way no matter how you play....why no reward for either paragon/renegade options. Why no continuation of the romance options?

For all this message of hope, galactic unity, progress, sacrifice, and determination this whole thing just seems.......empty...and hollow. Feels just rushed and shoddy.

This is probably the most favorite story I've come across in a long time (in an media form). So well written, intricate, and immersive. A lot of attachments even to just minor characters. And all of it just seems like a waste to me with these ending options.

The whole ending is just one giant deus ex machina to me....

Biggest let down ever.

Yes :( I gave the Geth their sentience and Admiral Han'Gerel would not stand down, so the Quarians were wiped out. I feel so bad. I went back aboard the Normandy afterwards and it felt so silent and empty without Tali there...

I played a few different routes with that whole story arc....and the above one....never again....and with Tali as my love interest I had to pick the one that kept her alive after the run-throughs, I just couldn't take that sad version.......watching her do that was just.......-shudder-......I about balled my eyes out. Will never watch that scene again.

So many emotional moments in this game it's just nuts.

** Warning**

Another end-game thought that you shouldn't read unless you have finished the game follows:

(a small bit of continuation from above)

Ending just shafts everything though, IMO....see my previous spoiler filled post when you're done.

There is a theory on the bioware forums that the entire ending sequence after the laser beam black-out scene is a bunch of hallucinations and Shep fighting off indoctrination......which kinda would explain the fuck-up of continuity and choices that make no sense........which may pave the way for DLC or ME4.

In either case I'm still pissed off about the ending and will be for a damned long time

Reply to Karl, as he says do not read unless you've finished...

I agree with your thoughts about the ending. I'm not big on "happy endings" having to happen, but would have loved to see at least one option where Shep lives. If I was going to guess though, I would bet that part of the reason for what they did was the sheer number of endings they would have had to create based on all of the decisions that would have to be a part of the process. Though I guess if you use their current endings as a template, you could argue that they could have used only a couple and still made the fans happy.

In regards to your comment about the theory of an alternate ending inside of DLC, it's certainly possible. But not sure they could do that, just based on the sheer size of the DLC pack that would be needed (in terms of data size), as you would again have to build in multiple endings.

The thing about ME DLC in the past that leads me to believe that it won't be happening, is that they add missions into the main storyline, the ME2 stuff didn't directly affect ME2, though it did come up in ME3.

Guess I don't know :p

However, if it was preplanned they could have included that kind of thing on the discs already and a DLC accesses them. Not sure if that is possible either.

As for ME4. I can't recall having read or seen anything about BioWare saying that ME4 isn't happening. I guess the only question I would have is what would the game be about, if he is fighting indoctrination, then the Reapers are still a bit of a threat, but if he's already on the Citadel there's not much there.

I guess anything is possible. And I would love another game. My only comment, would be that I hope if they do make a ME4 that they don't use some really cheesy reason for Shep to be alive again.

So I came back to the Citadel after the Cerberus attack and I'm bombarded by about 30 new missions! Joy!

Does anybody have any idea how I'm supposed to meet Thane? He sent me a message on Normandy insinuating that he'd be at the Huerta clinic under an assumed name but I've checked a few times and see nothing. Is that just a fluff piece or is he planning on meeting later on his terms?

Also Kelly Chambers gets executed and I find out about it in an off-handed comment? Damn!

How close am I to finishing the game if I'm just leaving Citadel for the 2nd time? My combat readiness is astounding, if I'm reading this correctly.

I know! I was like "Holy Shit, no!" But strangely I thought it worked with how the story played out. Sad as hell none the less. The only thing I really wish is that we could have had a funeral for her....she was Normandy crew after all

Hmm, I made a lot of runs back to the Citadel...just to see where the crew would go a visit, spend time talking with them, and just listening to all the NPCs.

The Asari Commando in the hospital was a great one to listen in on....took for freaking ever to get the whole story....but damn it was shocking as hell... I used my spectre powers to give her the damn gun...after what she's been through and all, I think it'd be a mercy

Uhmmm are you off to meet the Quarians? You still have quite a bit left if you do all the side quests and spend as much time as I did just dicking around on the Normandy or on the Citadel.

Uhh... pass? I don't remember what I told her to be honest. I know that we had a conversation about how she couldn't come back aboard the Normandy though.

BTW regarding how to meet Thane... you have to visit and speak to him before the Cerberus attack on the Citadel, otherwise he will die without you meeting him. IIRC you get a message from him just after you rescue the Turian Primark. If you don't meet him before Cerberus attacks the Citadel, Captain Kirrahe will fight off Kai Leng for you.
