With the weather in some of these game cities some messy games are pretty likely today.

Must say the football gods have a wicked sense of humour when it comes to Chicago though. I mean like the wind they normally get isn't enough...

The roof of the Metrodome in Minnesota has deflated because of all the snow. I wonder if they'll even be able to play tomorrow.

My CBS affiliate is totally weirded out today. The cable guide said we would be seeing OAK-JAX this morning. No big surprise, since this town is full of rabid Raider fans. But they started showing the CIN-PIT game. The first quarter of the game ended, they went to commercial, and then when they came back from the commercial break, suddenly they were showing the OAK-JAX game. O_o

It should be an interesting day. I know I am concerned about the Chiefs since Matt Cassell won't play because he had an appendectomy on Tuesday. They wisely kept him out so he could play the rest of the season. I think they can win with Croyle if the play solid defense and run the ball very well.

ESPN announced earlier this afternoon that the Giants-Vikings game will be played in Detroit tomorrow night at 7:20 Eastern. I saw footage of the Metrodome - it's a mess, looks like a meteor fell through the roof. Huge sections of the roof fabric are hanging halfway to the field, which is covered with debris and snow. It'll be a huge undertaking to get it ready for next week.

Xavier Synik
Dec 12th, 2010, 01:28:17 PM
wouldn't surprise me if they end up playing the Monday nighter next week at U of Minnisota (I think that's where they were talking about). They said on the pre-game it would take 1 week to get it ready for an NFL game (which is why they didn't play there this week instead of Detroit).

Just don't know if the NFL can take the chance of having the Vikes say the stadium will be ready and then find out late this week that there was something else wrong that causes it not to be ready again and having to scramble for another NFL city again at the last minute. Wouldn't be fair to the Vikes or their fans.

I've now seen the video of the roof collapsing at a couple of different websites. Wow...thank goodness no one was apparently in the building when it happened. What a mess!

Bad call against Jacksonville that hit should was incidental against Campbell. It should never have been called. Hope that play doesn't come back to hurt Jacksonville
Although Drew just scored a TD to retake the lead lol

The OAK-JAX game ended up being a great one. Especially since Oakland lost. Muhaha. :evil

The refs just looked the other way as the Raiders committed egregious holding on a long pass play. Reminding me of those stupid BW3 commercials where the refs help the game go into overtime...

I actually wonder if the Raiders allowed Maurice Jones-Drew score that last touchdown so as to give their offense time to mount a drive. The Jaguars were already almost in field goal range thanks to a great kick return, and they likely would have been able to grind out the remaining time and kick a chip shot to win. In any event, the Jaguars defense was able to hold the Raiders out of the endzone. Impressive game by two young and scrappy teams.

EDIT: Woah! White-out conditions in Chicago! Could make things interesting for the Bears and Patriots.

The Bears-Pats game could be ugly in those conditions.

Wow, wish I could see the weather in Chicago! The two games this afternoon for me are the 2 games being played in California, of course. Sunny and a little warmer than usual for this time of year. Not a snow flurry in sight!

EDIT: Just saw a clip of the Patriots scoring a touchdown. Um, yeah, it's definitely snowing in Chicago! :eek

KC is a joke anyway. It's about time the score reflected their worth.

Bullcrap, they have won 8 games this year and beat a couple good teams. They are first a young team with an amazing running back in Charles. They were missing their starting QB and Croyle sucks. With the offense doing nothing the Chiefs just couldn't get it going. They are also a poor road team. They are great at home. They still control their own destiny and just need to win out to win the division. I think they can do since they have to play at St. Louis who isn't really that good, the titans at home who are awful and then Oakland. Only Oakland worries me.

Dragon
Dec 13th, 2010, 10:25:21 AM
One of the marks of young teams is that they have difficulty adjusting to adversity, both because of lack of depth and lack of experience. I think Chiefs fans genuinely have reason to be excited about their team - this is their best season in a long time, and they still have an inside track on the division championship.

So the news out of New York is that Jets strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi admitted to intentionally tripping Dolphins defensive back Nolan Carroll on the sideline while he was running to cover a punt. Carroll was shaken up on the play but walked off after attention from trainers from both teams. While I'm glad Alosi admitted it - what a moron! Even setting aside the fact that it was a preposterously dirty action, what do you hope to accomplish by taking out a Dolphins' rookie special teamer? Have to wonder what kind of ship Rex Ryan is running over there. Without a doubt, Alosi should be fired, and I believe the Jets organization should be fined.

Jedi Master Carr
Dec 13th, 2010, 11:54:26 AM
I think they just couldn't handle the adversity. Not having Cassel really hurt. I think it will shut up those people who say Cassel sucks. He is one of the reasons they have won 8 games this year. I think they can beat the Rams this weekend with him. Besides the Rams actually looked worse than the Chiefs on Sunday. I have no clue how they have won 6 games. I wouldn't be shocked if the Niners won that division at 7-9.

And I would be THRILLED if they did. They really did look good yesterday, but then, we were playing Seattle.

I see that Alosi was suspended for the rest of the year by the NFL and fined $25,000. Apparently he's apologized to multiple people for the incident. That said, I think the Jets should fire him. It was one of the most heinously stupid things I've seen in a long time.

And Brett Favre's 297 game streak came to an end tonight. I had been predicting that his career would end with an injury, and that might just prove to be true. I just wonder how long it will be before they try to get him on Dancing With The Stars. :mischief

Holy crap! I cannot believe what I'm seeing in Houston! :eek

Matt Schaub has engineered touchdown drives of 99 yards and 95 yards in the fourth quarter to tie a game they trailed 28-7. Now we're going to overtime, and the Ravens defense looks absolutely gassed.

Also, slight correction on Rutabaga's post - Alosi has been suspended without pay and fined by the Jets, not the NFL. I don't know whether this will entice the NFL to drop their own investigation, but I heard they are going to issue a memo about keeping staffers off the sideline. You can see in the footage that there are five or six Jets coaches standing in a row on the white paint, and per regulation, no one is allowed to stand on the sideline.

Incidentally, a Cardinals defender standing on the sideline in Super Bowl 43 helped James Harrison get to the endzone after he picked off Kurt Warner at the end of the first half. Larry Fitzgerald had been blocked out of bounds while pursuing Harrison, and he crashed into a teammate who was standing on the sideline and watching the play. If he hadn't been tripped up, he would have caught Harrison with room to spare, and the Steelers would have had to settle for a field goal.

Big sack by the Texans (their fifth of the game) to force the Ravens to punt. Texans take over at their own eight... the Ravens' track record is not good so far against 90+ yard drives tonight.

Aaaaand a Ravens pick-six will end it. Good play by Josh Wilson, terrible throw by Matt Schaub.

Fun game to watch, as long as you're not either a Texans or a Ravens fan. Ryan Pode, how you holding up? Need an antacid?

Rutabaga
Dec 13th, 2010, 11:02:07 PM
Wow. Considering how exciting the game became, that was a really deflating and anti-climactic ending.
