Salem Ave

There were no moons in the sky above Terephon. For what was fast approaching a decade, Salem Ave had become accustomed to the sight of four luminous faces looking down on him from the night sky, yet he did not mourn their absence. He longed no more for Onderon than he did for Arkania, his birth place, or Coruscant, the former throne-world of the Jedi Order. The distant, scattered stars of the Transitory Mists winked at Salem, they alone sharing his moment of solitude. At the edge of the Hapes Cluster, the rare few hours of near-darkness provided a level of isolation and introspection that was unmatched elsewhere. Evolution had blessed the Hapans with great beauty, but it had also cursed them with a night blindness, and it was this biological flaw that allowed the former Prime Minister of Onderon his time alone.

Salem smiled thinly at the stars, finding some small amusement in the fact that his own species were the antithesis of the Hapans, far better designed to live in darkness and deeply proud of their scientific and technological achievements, rather than how elegant and refined their noses were. Looking out from the unlit balcony of the manse he would be inhabiting for the foreseeable future, Salem felt the presence of his species ingenuity close at hand, manifested in physical form. Somewhere below the mesa the manse was situated on, a testament to one Arkanian's intellectual might - and the fruition of his own intricate designs – was moving through the sprawling moor and marshlands that covered so much of Terephon.
