Well they don't suck this year, although it is still a daunting task for this young team. And yeah that is why I am going with them. They are my team and I will stick with them.

WTF??? What's happened in the first 5 minutes of the SD-OAK game is INEXCUSABLE. Will the Chargers be looking for a new special teams coach by the time the first quarter is over?

Dear Packers fans,

Sorry for changing my pick from the Redskins to the Packers late this morning, thereby guaranteeing that the Redskins would win overtime. Let's consider this a lesson learned.

Dai, 9 games had been played by the time you picked. You can keep the late game picks though.

Dragon

I'm afraid I have to agree with Liam. We made the exception for you in week two, since you had already missed week one, but getting your picks in by kickoff has always been the rule.

Should've loaded up on upsets this week. Packers, Bengals, Saints, Cowboys, Chargers... warn Philadelphia, it's a trap!

Jedi Master Carr

Man so many upsets this weekend. The league is complete parity.

Figrin D'an
Oct 10th, 2010, 07:15:44 PM
I honestly don't know what to make of the league at this point. Usually by now, there is at least some small separation between the contenders and pretenders, the good and the bad, and we have an idea (for the most part) who will be in the playoff race. It's pretty clear this thing is completely wide open.

Rutabaga
Oct 10th, 2010, 07:18:38 PM
I've been thinking that maybe I should just go for broke and pick nothing but upsets one weekend, but with my luck, that would be the weekend where everyone played like they were supposed to. :mischief

I'm wondering if the 2 teams who end up playing in the Super Bowl will end up there just due to dumb luck rather than talent and skill.

Rutabaga
Oct 10th, 2010, 08:55:34 PM
What I'm wondering right now is if Mike Singletary is even going to survive to the end of the season. This is the team that was favored to win the division, and they're heading to an 0-5 start. I just want to spank Alex Smith, that truly was a horrible turnover.

Lilaena De'Ville
Oct 10th, 2010, 09:00:47 PM
Lions in the SB, calling it now. ;)

Xavier Synik
Oct 10th, 2010, 09:10:17 PM
one more turnover or no touchdown and he's done for the night. And if he's not done for the night the SF crowd might riot.

I honestly thing that Singletary might be okay for the year, turnovers are really what's killing the 9ers in a lot of these games and short of dumping a can of stick-em on every QB, RB, WR, and TE there's nothing Singletary can do...

And as I finish writing this, Smith throws a bullet to Davis. I swear Smith has a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on. Sometimes he looks great and other times he looks like complete crap.

Xavier Synik
Oct 10th, 2010, 09:40:56 PM
and there's a shocker... Smith throws a INT and the game away...

Rutabaga

Lions and Rams, I'll bet!

Now, will Alex Smith get benched next week? Please? He really does have a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on, he simply is NOT going to go down in Niners' history as one of their great QBs.

Xavier Synik
Oct 10th, 2010, 10:21:17 PM
I think the most annoying thing about Smith, is that Green Bay got Rogers in that draft with the 24th pick...

They're both in the NFC, so no go there. Jets/Ravens for AFC and Falcons/TB for NFC right now, if I had to call it.

Hey, the way things are going this season, anything could happen! ;)

Dragon
Oct 11th, 2010, 07:00:42 AM
Nobody's out of it in the NFC. By the same token, nobody's demonstrating that they're playoff-ready, either. Most of the time there are teams that have it together from the beginning and look great, but there are always those teams that struggle early and, forced to play catch-up, build themselves into solid contenders.

This year, that's going to describe all the playoff teams in the NFC. What they've done so far almost doesn't matter at this point. It's more a question of who has the most upside, and who can actually capitalize on it. The Packers still look great on paper - if they can battle through injuries and start playing with pride again on defense, they could reclaim their spots as Super Bowl favorites. On perhaps the other extreme, the Buccaneers, despite their fast start, are displaying the classic weaknesses of a young team, and young teams usually don't fare well in the playoffs. But there's a lot of season left, and they have room to stumble - who's to say they won't discover something special in the meantime, like the very young 2006 Saints?

This season is going to test the abilities of coaches to find solutions on the fly. There are only a few teams that look like they simply don't have the tools to succeed. For the rest, it's a question of figuring out how to use the tools they have.

Oh yes, there is a reason why I specifically stated 'right now' as in 'as of' in my above post. A lot could and probably will still happen. Later tonight will be very telling, but IMO the Jets seem to have it together after their Opening Week 1 loss. <!-- / message -->

Dai, of your picks that were on time, you got two, so it works out better for you to get the worst score minus one. Incidentally, I don't know that we've ever had such a symmetrical distribution. :p

Season Totals

1. Ryan Pode: 47-29 (41)
1. Liam Jinn: 47-29 (40)

3. Anne Phoenix: 45-31 (37)

14. Rutabaga: 37-39 (30)
14. Xavier Synik: 37-39 (30)
16. Dai: 36-40 (32)

So I messed up some of the loss columns last week, giving some people too many losses... really, all that matters for the ranking is the number of wins, and those were all correct. I just had some people with the wrong number of total games. Got it fixed now, though. Everyone's total adds up to 76.
