Good grief! Every time I check the Bengals-Panthers game, Carson Palmer is throwing to the Panthers, and the Panthers are dropping it. I've seen two dropped interceptions which could easily have been returned for TDs.

EDIT: Dang, how about Charlie Batch? Three TD passes and a 24-yard run on third down for the old man! Not bad for someone the Steelers were planning to cut after the preseason! :D

Hnnn, well TB came back from a 2 TD deficit to beat CLE the first week, let's see if they can come back from a 3 TD deficit to beat PIT this week in the second half.

Well the Bucs were a mirage like most of us thought. They did beat two very bad teams. The Chiefs are playing well defensively, they need to keep it up in the second half to beat the Niners.

86-yard INT return TD by Brett Kiesel! :crack

I am shocked at that Browns Score. The Chiefs are pouring it on the Niners. Cassel has 3 TDs and actually looks like a good QB what a shock.

The Ravens managed to wake up and put the Browns away. Meanwhile, the Bills have played the Patriots very close all day and managed to get the ball back with about three minutes left down by eight points, but a Ryan Fitzpatrick pick will give the Patriots the opportunity to kill the clock.

The Falcons-Saints game is probably the best of the early set - about to go into overtime after the Saints drove deep into Falcons territory for a tying field goal.

The 49ers... man. After last week I thought they were still front-runners for that lousy division. I guess they still could be, but they've just been absolutely dominated in both their road games. Granted, Qwest Field and Arrowhead Stadium are among the most hostile venues in the league, but you have to expect more out of your young talent than that. Giving up 457 yards on the road, over 200 on the ground? That's a disaster for a team that wants to build its identity around ball control and solid defense.

EDIT: The Saints miss a 29-yard FG try in OT! :eek

Superstition is reigning supreme in this household and Owen's Niners jersey has been ordered and damn the price because whatever team he wears wins and thats a fact. We got him into Ty's Jerry Rice jersey for a moment and the 9ers got a first down before he wiggled out of it.

And yesterday Arizona State got a touchdown before I got Owen into his Ducks jersey and then afterward the Ducks got two touchdowns in a row.

And we all know how the Saints did last year while Owen was wearing his Saints jersey.

:uhoh

...stupid Niners. :shakefist

And I'm hoping for Atlanta!!! Come on! Saints missed the field goal to win it in overtime so its all on the Falcons again.

I think you have to give the Chiefs credit. They have really turned that franchise around. I now think they could get in the playoffs with that defense and their running game.

The Giants are terrible; Caughlin gets fired at the end of the season if they miss the playoffs.

I'm amazed at how much Troy Polamalu means to Pittsburgh's defense. Without him, they are mediocre. With him, they are as close to elite as you'll find in today's NFL.

The Chiefs are better than I gave them credit for, and might contend in the AFC West, but San Francisco is on the verge of imploding. The 49ers are still the most talented team, overall, in the NFC West. But if they lose next week to Atlanta and drop to 0-4, the wheels might come off the bandwagon.

And down go the Saints.

Dragon
Sep 26th, 2010, 02:52:11 PM
Oh, I definitely give the Chiefs credit - first of all because your job is always to beat the team in front of you, and second because they never could have put up those kinds of numbers last year. It's still early in the season, but they've reclaimed the old pride in Arrowhead Stadium, and that's a great accomplishment for a young football team.

The difference is that the Chiefs are a surprise while everyone expected this to be the 49ers' breakout year. Not having seen the game, I can only go by the numbers, but it looks like the Chiefs were content to focus on the run (just 43 yards for Frank Gore) and let Alex Smith try to beat them (23/42 for 232 yards). There is no way Mike Singletary had Smith throwing 40 times in his gameplan.

I'm amazed at how much Troy Polamalu means to Pittsburgh's defense. Without him, they are mediocre. With him, they are as close to elite as you'll find in today's NFL.

Polamalu is a beast, without a doubt, but the second-most valuable player on that defense is Aaron Smith, the best darned run-stopping defensive end in the league. He's an automatic double-team and the key to the Steelers' dominance up-front. What absolutely killed them last year was losing both Polamalu and Smith - gutted their strength right up the middle of the field.

As a Chiefs fan I didn't think they be this good. If they were to win, I was thinking another ugly win for the Chiefs. They were dominating on defense, and the offense looks better especially when they got McCluster and Charles into the gameplan. I originally thought they win maybe 8 games at best but now I think they can win 10-11 and win the division.

As for this afternoon games, I don't think anybody thought the Seahawks and Rams could win their games. And Denver is giving the Colts more trouble then I thought. I think the Colts might not be as good as they were last year.

Dragon

Looking at their schedule, I'm wondering who could possibly beat them in Kansas City. Denver? Tennessee, if their defense shows up to play? Your other home games are Jacksonville, Buffalo, Arizona, and Oakland, which all have to be underdogs. I'd say odds are still long that they go undefeated at home, but the way they're playing, it could happen. With the win in Cleveland, that'd be nine of your ten wins right there. I think we still need to see a lot more out of Matt Cassel before we can say he's a franchise quarterback, though.

EDIT: Oof, that's the second time the Broncos have gone for it on fourth down in the red zone and been turned away by the Colts. Josh McDaniels, you have a kicker for a reason. There was still over nine minutes in this game, and you'd be in a much better position down by one than down by seven. Heck, you'd be better off down by four and kicking off right now, because it means you could take the lead the next time you touch the ball. Going for it there only makes sense if you don't think you'll get another chance.

those home game are all winnable. They also play at Seattle and St. Louis which they could win and throw in the other Oakland game. I think they could do it. They need to play Charles like today. I agree with you about Cassel I am not convinced yet although he doesn't need to be great just not turn the ball over and play adaquet.
I am shocked that Seattle is still beating the Chargers. Never thought that would happen. Every game but the Eagle game is close. The Jags look horrible and considering their stadium problems wouldn't be shocked to see them move in the next few years.

Another suckalicious week for me so far. I think I'll be damn lucky it I manage to pull off a 3rd straight 8-8 week. :grumble

Niners are done for the year. I'm starting to wonder if Mike Singletary might be out of a job at the end of the season, if not sooner.

What's strange to me is that it seems that there's less consistency this season. There's always flukes, lucky plays, and whatnot, but it just seems like things are less predictable than usual so far this season. A team can play really great or really lousy one week, but then turn a 180 the following week. It's making it even harder to pick. At least for me. :\

Right now I'm just working on an ulcer, hoping the Chargers can come back. I've never liked the Seahawks anyway, but now that Pete Carroll is their coach, I hate them with a red-hot passion. :shootin

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 26th, 2010, 05:16:04 PM
The Chargers just tied the game up. I am surprised the game is this close, I thought for sure this would be a blowout.

Edit
Wow after saying that the Seahawks get another return for a TD. 14 points of their offense have come from Special teams.

Rutabaga
Sep 26th, 2010, 05:21:05 PM
Dan Fouts is correct. The Chargers CANNOT cover kickoff returns. To allow 2 kickoffs to be run back for TDs is inexcusable.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 26th, 2010, 05:23:07 PM
This happened to them with the Chiefs but I thought that was because the Chiefs had great returners (which they do) but it looks like they are having a lot of problems covering kicks. The Raider coach made a dumb move kicking a 60 yard field goal, giving Arizona great field position to run the clock out.

Edit Oakland misses two FGS in the last 5 minutes of the game, unbelievable. Janowski has lost it. SD is going to get the ball back and still has a chance to tie the game.

Rivers threw an INT to give Seattle the win. Hard to believe but the Chiefs have a 2 game lead in the AFC West.

In the end, it doesn't matter all that much because the Chargers special teams players lost the game for them. Take away the 2 runbacks and the Chargers win the game.

But it gave me horrible flashbacks to a couple years ago with Ed Hochuli's bad call. It seemed to ruin the whole season for them, they never seemed to recover from it.

EDIT: Just checked my tally for the day, I'm down 7 games so far. So come on, Miami and Green Bay. Keep me from completely embarrassing myself again this week. :o

Ugh. I have 6... Yes it's only week 3, but I do believe my chance at repeating is pretty low.

As for Singletary losing his job. It wouldn't surprise me, but I think those rumblings about issues with the Offensive Coordinator have to have more to do with it. Usually with stuff like that, where there's smoke there's fire. I'd be surprised if the OC wasn't canned sooner rather then later. Whether Singletary goes too is another question. I'd be 50/50 on it. Though probably at the end of the season if I had to guess.

Looks like a close one in MIA right now, with a 4 point lead by the NYJ. I'll miss the second half of this one by being at work, unless I decide to follow it on my mobile. Either way, we'll see in the morning. Technically Tuesday morning for how the week turned out. ;)

My 49ers are killing me this season. What is going on in Frisco? Gore's #s are down, and the defense is looking very inconsistent. They gave the Champs a run for their money last week, but just hadn't the defensive effort or offensive consistency this week.

It's looking like a long, long, looooong season ahead of us...

It really is depressing to realize that, after 3 games, the Niners' season is over. I also think it's probable that the Chargers' season is over as well. I know they were 1-2 at this point last year and then went on an 11-game winning streak, but I don't see that happening again this year. So I already don't have a lot left to root for. :(

I was ready to throw things at my TV after the multiple stupid fouls on GB that lead to Chicago's score. That was inexcusable. It seems like so many losses that happened this weekend were not necessarily because the winning team played better, it was because the losing team shot themselves in the foot.

I suck. 7-9, I believe. Argh. :cry

Frustrating, no? I dropped two games because kickers couldn't make chipshot field goals with the whole game riding on them (New Orleans and Oakland). The Chargers had to let in two kickoff return touchdowns to lose. The Packers had to tie a franchise-record 17 penalties. The Dolphins came down to the last play in a very excellent game. The Giants, 49ers, Texans, and Redskins, however, simply sucked. :lol

I know it's a heartbreaking start for a lot of teams, and it looks like the pits of the league are as low as they've ever been, but it also seems like there's more parity at this early stage than usual, too. We've got emergent competition in the AFC West (Chiefs), the NFC North (rising Bears and falling Vikes), AFC East (Jets and Dolphins), and even in the AFC South (Colts are still the standard-barers, but that's a bad division to be in with a weak run defense!). Meanwhile, we've got a resurgent Michael Vick in Philadelphia and an elite defense playing with pride in Pittsburgh. Even though there's still a lot of uncertainty throughout the league, this has been an exciting first three weeks!

Shutting up now, giving weekly tally:
