View Full Version : topic tags made for fun

I know we use the Bounty and Imp and Reb tags in the RPing forum for certain threads... I thought maybe if we had faction specific open/cls/complete tags it might be cool.
Fully aware no one asked me to do this and they won't be used. But maybe they could be. :)
edit: as I think about it, the bounty thread tag is hardly used so those really aren't necessary, but the imp and rebel ones might be useful...

Eh, I guess I don't understand why what's used in the group forum can't be used on the main rp forum then.

These are cool, but I do have to ask (not just yourself, but others) ... is there a demand from posters for open/closed/complete icons specifically for rebel/imperial threads in the main rping forum?

Eh, I guess I don't understand why what's used in the group forum can't be used on the main rp forum then.
They certainly could be.
Like I said, I just made them for fun :(
edit: and I would use the imp or rebel ones - I already use the imp and rebel tags to tag my threads in the main forum and if they could be also marked open or closed I think that's a plus.

I've certainly been using Rebel and Imp tags in the main area, and have half wondered if open / closed versions of them might be useful. I've been using Rebel tags for Dorn Force stuff, and I did for that Reputation to Maintain thread, for example; and there are a few Imperial ones there as well.
That said, I do like the existing Imp / Rebel tags, and it'd be a shame to replace them; most of the existing tags are square too, rather than having rounded corners. What if they were like the Shadows of the Republic tag, with the Open / Closed in tiny red writing in the bottom corner? That'd keep the existing designs there, but add in the versatility that we're lacking.
I do really like the Bounty / Mando ones, though. Maybe they could go in the Black Sun forums, now that we're sharing?

I'm happy to add new tags into rotation, and clear out any that aren't really being used anymore, but I would like to get a general consensus on what people want first. We already have a total of 172 topic tags accesible to posters, through various forums and user groups, and it seems hard to believe that those aren't enough.
The existing Rebel/Empire tags have... an iconic look about them. You can tell what they are at a glance. Personally I'd be sad to see them go but I do like Nen's idea of potentially modifying those to include some indicator of whether a thread is open or closed.

I'm all for phasing out the old ones to include the "open and closed" versions. It's nicer looking than having to state as such in the thread title or an ooc note at the top of the thread. :)

Well, modding the existing tags is easy enough. Like Jenny, I'm very partial to the Imp/Reb tags that we've got, but it's not hard to take the base and fiddle with the open/closed deal. Though, it would be good to also keep in mind the amount that we have already at this point in time. Last thing we need to do is clutter everything up.

I think we can probably get away with adding Open / Closed versions of the Rebel and Imperial ones - it makes sense, and it's certainly something that I think we'd use. And describing them as "iconic" is exactly the right word; exactly the one I was trying to think of.
That said, there probably are quite a few that we don't use anymore. I'm not entirely sure what "Syndicate" and "Place" are meant to reprisent, for example. Given how few "Pirates" there are, we don't see that one used much at the moment, either. And a lot of the Mixed Topic tags are only really getting used when someone feels the urge to use a silly tag for novelty reasons.
We've got "Art", "Cartoon", "Image", "Photos", "Photography", "Photoshopping", and "Sketching" which are all more or less in the same ballpark, and could potentially be reduced down a little. We've got game console ones that probably haven't been used in years...
There are some of that 172 that we could likely get used to not having, I'd think.

Keep 'Art', 'Sketching', 'Photography', and 'Image'.
Anyone adverse to changing 'Photoshop' to 'Digital'?

I don't know that Digital makes any sense unless its got another word for it to qualify.

'Digital Art' then?

Just out of curiosity Christin, why those four in particular?
I don't do much of the art stuff myself, so I'm not in much of a position to comment... but as best I can tell, all of the art / images / etc go under either "Art", "Signature", or "Image". Heck, our picture request thread, which is full of photos, uses an Image tag and not a Photography / Photo / etc tag.
Is there a specific reason you feel those are the necessary ones?
Like I say, just curious. :)

Right now it's the rping icons that make up the bulk of the excess. We should look at cutting those down primarily, if we're going to be cutting out / streamlining.

You women - you want all the weight to go from the fat bits, don't you? :rolleyes
Since you've got access to the full list, Jen (the rest of us can only see the groups we're members of, if we happen to be looking in the right forum, etc)... which RP ones would you suggest removing? :)
Edit:
Just poking around absently, and pondering... were there any unique icons for the Nar Shaddaa things that are still hanging around now the boards are gone? And maybe we could expand those sexy Imperial ones that Christin did to cover Cloud City as well?
Lilaena De'Ville

Yeah the bounty hunter forum tags can go away, and the Cloud City ones could probably go too. Of course then all the threads tagged with them would have no tags.

My suggestions would be:
General Icons - keep all of these, except 'Image'
Staff Icons - fine as is
Mixed Topic Tags - fine as is
Roleplaying tags - remove the VS icons, Syndicate, Place, Black Nebula and Bounty
Supporter icons - fine as is
WoD icons - trim down everything except the main tag, open and closed
Jedi icons - fine as is
Imperial icons - fine as is
KA icons - fine as is
Black Sun/Nebula icons - remove Black Nebula and potentially all planet icons
X-Men icons - fine as is
Cloud City icons - remove docks, illegal, legal, smuggling, the 411, ooc, rebels and roleplay
Myth - fine as is
Apocalypse Now - fine as is
Justice - fine as is
Nar Shaddaa - delete entire category

As far as Black Sun - its fine to delete the planet tags.

If no one else has anything to say about this, I will go ahead and do what I proposed above.

I think we should keep the VS tags. And the Bounty one, although I think the Nar Shaddaa tags have a better looking one that we could use instead.

Keeping the bounty one makes sense for OOC purposes - since there's no board for bounty type discussions, having a tag to draw attention to those sorts of things in the roleplay discussion could be useful.
If we're so desperately overwhelmed with tags though, I'm sure there's more than just "Image" that we could lose from the general stuff. Heck, it's one of the few that is actually being used on a thread at the moment. :\

Art - general art type stuff, such as mixed media that some might want to show off.
Sketching - I know I have used this before, as it pertains to sketchbook work and unfinished pieces.
Photography - For folks that like to take pictures.
Digital Art - For work done in photoshop such as signatures and photo manipulations.
Image - I imagine this would be more for the General Discussion area.
The four up top would more than likely be used in SAA, as they help to break down the mediums members work in. I hope this answers your question, Cap.

Fair enough - I just haven't seen many of those used in quite a while, is all, and it seemed that we were pushing to get rid of the ones that weren't being used. :)
Same with the Playstation / Xbox / Wii tags, since all of our game discussions seem to just use "Game", etc.
