So yeah, this is me attempting a race. I know most people cringe at the mention of Vong, so I wanted to create something along those lines, yet try to keep it fairly original and interesting. Basically, this is just stuff in the works...but all comments, critics and suggestions are welcome. I intend to play a character of this race, once this is approved and done.

Also, bear with me about the technicalities. If you don't understanding my tech babble, please ask.

Thanks in advance

Here goes nothing....

The Crux

Q:Who are The Crux?

A:The easiest way to put it – Crux are a sentient species from another universe.

Q:Where do The Crux come from?

A:Crux come from an almost fully expanded universe. As a universe ages, it expands, also cooling down in the process. Matter and energy dilute over enormous distances, leaving an empty, lifeless void. In Crux’s universe, almost all stars have died out, turning into supernovas or black holes, with most planets tidally locked with the remaining faint suns(which essentially means that most planets have one side facing the sun, this side being hot, while the dark side of the planet remains frozen). Billions years ago, the Crux had a home planet, but it was eventually destroyed when another wandering planet crashed into it. By that time, the Crux had conquered a great deal of their and neighboring galaxies, easily finding a new home. However, they are very much alone in their universe. During their explorations, they encountered a number of alien life forms, but none of them more advanced than bacteria. They also found fossils of creatures who lived long before Crux evolved, with some of the beings thought of as sentient, but long extinct when Crux reached their planets.

Q: How did The Crux appear in SW galaxy?

A: By dimensional folding, or so called “metaphysics origami”. A trial and error process, it allows the Crux to travel through dimensions at different levels – if they wish to fold from third to fourth, they travel from one place to another in their own universe. If they fold from fourth to fifth, they switch between different timelines and hence, futures. Folding from ninth to tenth dimension would make them able to travel between different universes. However, this is not so simple – the chances of a successful folding diminish exponentially as dimensions increase. Also, keep in mind there are an infinite number of different universes to switch to – the key is to find a relatively habitable one. Like the one we roleplay in. 

Q:So, this is all mind-boggling… What kind of technology do the Crux have to make this all possible?
A:The Crux have evolved in a universe where energy is very scarce. In this sense, they are probably the most energy efficient organisms. Their technology(and their body for that matter) is based on the concept of perpetuum mobile – machines and engines that produce more work then the energy they consume. Hence, their technological solutions are far above anything that could be imagined.

Q:How do the Crux look like?
A:Since they come from a somewhat different universe, The Crux have no eyes, face or anything resembling anything seen in other SW races. In order to keep themselves alive, they wear protective armors that acts as energy collectors, drawing in energy from their surroundings. Their bodies are not entirely physical; they can morph as well as retain a solid shape within the armor. Evolution made them virtually independent of food, water and air, since both is ingested to produce energy – they can eat, but they don’t have to. They usually ingest organic and inorganic matter to build up some tissue on the inside of their armors, sustaining the leftovers of their once completely physical appearance.

Q: How long does an average Crux live?
A: There really isn’t such a thing as an average Crux, as there is only eight of them left. Given the conditions of physical reality in their universe and near maximal entropy, time lapses really slowly. Coupled with low energy needs, the Crux can virtually live for millions of years.

Q:Wow, that’s a shitload! How does it feel to be nearly immortal?
A: Crux can be killed, so they are far from immortal. Such longevity usually has forgetfulness as a consequence; generally, Crux only retain fraction of their memories, while the rest is stored in a form of collective consciousness which represents the essence of the Crux.

To be continued...

Q: Why are there only eight Crux left alive?

A:When they eventually realized the chances of finding a new habitable universe were close to zero, Crux stopped procreating, turning into a slowly dying race. All the memories, thoughts and knowledge is downloaded into the collective consciousness, thus being preserved as a Crux leaves their mortal coil. Current seven members that are still alive have a mission of transferring the consciousness into a habitable place with plenty of energy so that their essence is preserved. The eighth one also wants for them personally to transcend into another universe. His idea is rebellious and looked upon with unanimous disapproval.

Q: So, Crux have this advanced technology that would make any faction at Fans invincible. Isn’t that godmoding?

A:Their technology might be very advanced, but it cannot be used by anybody apart from them. Think of the following analogy; you give a laptop to a caveman and tell him to program something. Not gonna happen, even in a million years. Thus, technology cannot be replicated without an actual Crux showing them how stuff works, as everything is based on different logic. Also, their understanding of physical reality goes above anything current SW science can begin to grasp.
The only way to gain their technology is either by threatening a Crux to kill them or asking them nicely to give it away. Neither works, as one can always fold into from one dimension to other and see what this does in the future. Since they don't want to interfere with the current timeline, their strategy is to lay low and just look for a peaceful place with enough energy to sustain them for another few hundred billion years.
Also, Crux don't use weapons.

Q: How was their society organized?

A: When they did live in a society, it was a meritocracy. In this way, their society mimicked evolution; over time, the Crux became a static society where there was no tendency to change. Most apt individuals were decision makers, while everybody had the same rights.

Q: What’s the Crux culture like? Do they have art, science, politics?

A:Yes, they had all of those things and even more. Still have it, inside the conciousness.

Q: Are they xenophobic?
A:On the contrary, they respect and enjoy all life, having developed in a universe void of other sentient life-forms.

Aside from dimensional bending and such, I don't think the stuff you give the Crux seems like some giant leap, and even then, that seems just to be the plot effect that allows them to travel here. So unless there's something more bizarre than that, I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed.

Now, what kind of plans do you have for them?

For now, there would be only one member in our universe - the character I would play.

Upon finding a suitable universe, he explored it a bit to get the general idea of how stuff functions here. Also, he was really happy to see abundance of life. So, he created a face for the Crux, something that would make them fit in. He then travelled back to his universe to bring the rest of them. However, their ship never made it though the fold. And now, he's marooned here. Since there was a random miscalculation, there is no way for him to go back for them.

The problem is - he is no longer alone in the universe. Abundance of life means less resources per one being. Concept of scarcity is something he is unfamiliar with.
I guess, given his technology, he would represent an asset to Alliance, Empire, Independents and even the Jedi. Just imagine what human greed would do with such tech...

What does the entire race want? Just a quiet place under the sun. And to enjoy living in a populated universe for once.

I still want to do this! Any objections?

Can I least start a test thread to see if I can actually RP this god-like creature? :lol

I don't have any problems with the notion in and of itself, however I have questions about the idea because I don't perceive a lot of depth to it.

1) The notion of a handful of survivors from a particular species has been covered before in literature. Aside from that and the tech/physiology, what defines this species that takes them beyond the fairly two-dimensional description you've given so far?

2) Is this character intended to be anything other than a passive observer? If so, what role do you expect it to play in galactic events?

3) There are no clear and present limitations on the character that I can see. If this character were to decide it was in line with their morals to take over the 'Fans universe, what would stop them?
