So yeah, this is me attempting a race. I know most people cringe at the mention of Vong, so I wanted to create something along those lines, yet try to keep it fairly original and interesting. Basically, this is just stuff in the works...but all comments, critics and suggestions are welcome. I intend to play a character of this race, once this is approved and done.
Also, bear with me about the technicalities. If you don't understanding my tech babble, please ask.
Thanks in advance
Here goes nothing....
The Crux
Q:Who are The Crux?
A:The easiest way to put it – Crux are a sentient species from another universe.
Q:Where do The Crux come from?
A:Crux come from an almost fully expanded universe. As a universe ages, it expands, also cooling down in the process. Matter and energy dilute over enormous distances, leaving an empty, lifeless void. In Crux’s universe, almost all stars have died out, turning into supernovas or black holes, with most planets tidally locked with the remaining faint suns(which essentially means that most planets have one side facing the sun, this side being hot, while the dark side of the planet remains frozen). Billions years ago, the Crux had a home planet, but it was eventually destroyed when another wandering planet crashed into it. By that time, the Crux had conquered a great deal of their and neighboring galaxies, easily finding a new home. However, they are very much alone in their universe. During their explorations, they encountered a number of alien life forms, but none of them more advanced than bacteria. They also found fossils of creatures who lived long before Crux evolved, with some of the beings thought of as sentient, but long extinct when Crux reached their planets.
Q: How did The Crux appear in SW galaxy?
A: By dimensional folding, or so called “metaphysics origami”. A trial and error process, it allows the Crux to travel through dimensions at different levels – if they wish to fold from third to fourth, they travel from one place to another in their own universe. If they fold from fourth to fifth, they switch between different timelines and hence, futures. Folding from ninth to tenth dimension would make them able to travel between different universes. However, this is not so simple – the chances of a successful folding diminish exponentially as dimensions increase. Also, keep in mind there are an infinite number of different universes to switch to – the key is to find a relatively habitable one. Like the one we roleplay in.
Q:So, this is all mind-boggling… What kind of technology do the Crux have to make this all possible?
A:The Crux have evolved in a universe where energy is very scarce. In this sense, they are probably the most energy efficient organisms. Their technology(and their body for that matter) is based on the concept of perpetuum mobile – machines and engines that produce more work then the energy they consume. Hence, their technological solutions are far above anything that could be imagined.
Q:How do the Crux look like?
A:Since they come from a somewhat different universe, The Crux have no eyes, face or anything resembling anything seen in other SW races. In order to keep themselves alive, they wear protective armors that acts as energy collectors, drawing in energy from their surroundings. Their bodies are not entirely physical; they can morph as well as retain a solid shape within the armor. Evolution made them virtually independent of food, water and air, since both is ingested to produce energy – they can eat, but they don’t have to. They usually ingest organic and inorganic matter to build up some tissue on the inside of their armors, sustaining the leftovers of their once completely physical appearance.
Q: How long does an average Crux live?
A: There really isn’t such a thing as an average Crux, as there is only eight of them left. Given the conditions of physical reality in their universe and near maximal entropy, time lapses really slowly. Coupled with low energy needs, the Crux can virtually live for millions of years.
Q:Wow, that’s a shitload! How does it feel to be nearly immortal?
A: Crux can be killed, so they are far from immortal. Such longevity usually has forgetfulness as a consequence; generally, Crux only retain fraction of their memories, while the rest is stored in a form of collective consciousness which represents the essence of the Crux.
To be continued...
