Yes SW Fanboys are the worst kind of human beings when it comes to Fan Fiction... but I wouldn't want them any other way :D

Considering the huge Wiki pages we create for our own, fan-made characters... we can hardly complain :lol

The "Look sir, Droids!" guy has a backstory? :o

I think that even TK-421 has a back story... and if he doesn't, I'll create it.

Wow. Some of these are really hardcore, like the back story for Dengar.

The worst one is the ice cream maker guy. Does he really need a backstory?

Trust me, there's a whole bunch more shit I left out.

I'm sorry but that's all you need to know and the shit bit is exactly what it all is. All he should be is nameless ugly fuck in the back of shot but nooooooooo talentless hacks come up with some sort of literaty vomit that makes no sense.

Oooooh no, the worst is the droid. Trust me, R5-D4 is terrible beyond all description. It is so absurd, Wookieepedia deserves to be erased from existance just for that.

These are all stories from the books Tales of the Bounty Hunters and Tales from Jabba's Palace. Wookieepedia didn't make them up. :huh I don't see why it should be shot :p

Lucas print is on all their backstories. Fansboy aren't to blame this time.

I think Kenner gave Dengar his name when they shipped the action figure. Most of these entries came in those tales series. Not sure about a few like Ice Cream man and R5-D4.

Some of those are hysterical. But some of these guys were taken to be used in books, and why not? That's not fair to lump them in the same category of lame as Rebel and Imp grunts who happened to have a line of dialogue.

Hands down, the worst example of the burning need to create a back story where none was needed was "Skippy". I actually have the comic where that was published. So stupid in so many ways.

BTW, most of the sad examples in that top 20 were actually published somewhere in a book or website sanctioned by Lucas, not the result of fanfiction. So tragic.

Much of wookipedia was lifted from the ironically named "Essential" Guides. Is it really essential to know about every cantina extra? Apparently they thought it was.

Here we have examples of people making stories where there were none. I see nothing wrong with that. Plus I'm a complete sucker for backstories.

Except the backstories are illiterate crap.

I'm like Droo in that I love reading about backstories. To me it doesn't matter if they're bad or good.

You know Mark, I'm not entirely keen on rallying, but you don't see me acting like you are in this thread about it :|

You are quite free to - and I'd even understand. I'd be in agreement with a lot of what you would say too as I'm well aware how ... well... daft the sport actually is, how pointless to the outsider and how disruptive it can be to locals. Very few people would - or should - like barrelling down forest roads at immense speeds. It is fundamentally a waste of time, money and resources.

However it does serve a purpose in furthering the safety of vehicles via developments in components and a bunch of other things that frankly are boring and you dont want to hear about.

In this case, the issue isnt about a like or dislike but of quality control. The issue we have is that a) somethign should just remain blank (like the droid that blew up) b) You dotn need the details, droid that blew up is fine c) If there is a backstory then making it make sense would be a good idea. What you have here is someone - EU writer, wiki writer or Jorge has gone "Hmm yes this is a good idea" and then comitted it when the merest editorial sniff test would say nope this in fact is bad and makes no sense. And then you have the Wooikeepedia where THEIR editors should have looked at it objectively, said Nope this makes no sense and refused to repeat it.

So then you have some no name pilot gets this "long and glorious" history that is ridiculous, even for a fantasy setting or Boba Fett, the most feared bounty hunter has a domestic life?!?!? WHAT????

Fan fiction is quite different (which is us here), you can be silly and do absurd things - hell I did plenty of that. I found my entire RP archives and groaned how bad plenty of it was but it's fun and hey it's a friendship based thing. Sadly, the fan fiction made more sense and was more grounded in believeability than the offical backstories like the ones exampled and there SHOULD be a high degree of quality/relavence control.... which there isnt.

A long and extended backstory for Biggs should be relavent. Driod that exploded, no, it should be left alone.

I've no problem with you giving the sort of response you just did, and I do agree with much of what you said. It's the unpleasant one-liners that frustrate me.

It sums up what I really think - If I spent time with all the stupid things that get to me in the world I'd make my fingers bloodied stumps - so it's safer for my stress levels to take a shot and move onto something that doesnt make my eyes bleed

Plus, most of this is obviously bad in such a way that dismissing it probably isnt a bad thing.

I think you're missing my point. What I'm trying to say is that those one-liners generally sour a thread, and piss all over those who do happen to enjoy what is being talked about - whether the discussion goes from 'good about it' to 'bad about it'.
