Ask me about:

Pierce Tondry
Hobgoblin
Redik
Marian Call

I know I haven't done much recently and have totally trailed off on posting to the threads I do have. There are good reasons for it, I promise.

When are any of your characters ever gonna come back? That would be cool.

I had high hopes for "You." tsk tsk ;)

Well, it's not technically dead. Just comatose.

I'm trying to put together a song and related video by this weekend (which will be difficult since I'm out of town tomorrow but still), but if I succeed then I will post something Sunday-ish.

Feel like Tondry should get married again?

Just kidding. But we had some good times. :) I hope you are able to get back to writing again, I think you're supremely gifted. I especially liked Redik, of your post-reset characters. :)

I don't know that I've even seen post-Reset Pierce! What's he doing these days? Where would you plug him in if you were playing him now? (If you are playing him now and I haven't noticed, my bad... :uhoh)

Well, between playing StarCraft II (which is a fantastic story and gives me awesome ideas on occasion) and learning guitar, my free time's been a little absorbed. I've also been dealing with some very serious problems, but hopefully I have a handle on solutions for them.

Also, I wouldn't mind doing a one-shot RP for old-times' sake. :) And by that, I mean something post-reset-ish where Tondry and De'Ville bump into each other.

Kale, post-reset Pierce is an Imperial defector. Previously was Imp Intel in a covert agent program called the Black Spectres. Pierce was the third Spectre initiated, and has since defected to the Alliance under cover of feigned death.

That would be cool, I hope the opportunity comes up. :)

If Teagan asked nicely, would Hob be her Maid of Honor at her wedding?

Also, I was never very clear on it, but what exactly is Hob? I couldn't ever figure out if he was an out and out goblin, one of Yoda's species, or something else ^_^;

Of course! He'd even gussy up with a nice new dress and some lipstick!

Waaaay back when I first conceived of Hob, he was more goblin/gremlin. After I decided to develop the character, though, I fleshed his backstory into one where he was born a deformed member of Yoda's race who was outcast as a result.

So do you have any plans of Hob at the Wheel?

Who was your first character on 'Fans? And if you still play them, how have they changed over the years? (Use this last question for the character that's been around the longest if 1st character doesn't exist anymore.)

I see what you did there.

Which has been your favorite character to write and why? I realize this can sort of be like asking which child you love the most so if that's the case, what in particular has made each character enjoyable enough for you to weave their story?

Hob is at loose ends in a way. Before my interests took me in other directions and life caught up with me, he was going to be teacher to one Alex Coal, as played by Hera. With my absence and now hers, I don't have any strict story ideas for Hob right now.

However, one thing about Hob's current incarnation is that he works really well in cameo roles. Take "You." for example. I wasn't genuinely planning on putting Hob in that story when I first conceived of the idea. Then I realized that I wanted to write that story from a certain perspective and write the perspectives a certain way. Because of that there wasn't a really good way to view the interaction between Pierce and Karen or get some exposition going without having someone else in the mix to act as an impartial lens. There weren't a ton of people leaping to get into a roleplay of mine at that time and the idea of including Hob occurred to me as a solution to my problems. As I wrote out his involvement, though, I found the mix of comedic and serious elements he brings to the table to be just perfect for filling any role I really needed. Others may disagree, but they're wrong.

So, if anyone finds themselves in need of a walk-on role from a Jedi munchkin, please let me know. :)

My first character was Pierce, actually. I guess if you really want to see how he's changed, you can go back through the archives. I can't say that I feel like Tondry has changed a ton, but then I've also been the guy who's fleshed him out and given him depth over the course of many years, so my perspective is skewed. I think I look at him from a "Tondry has always been what he is now" point of view even if that's not necessarily true because Tondry has always been a work to develop. He can't be a two-dimensional character because those are boring and I hate them, but he also needs to retain consistency in who he is and what he does or he's not really a person.

I see what you did there.

I know, right? I was really hoping someone would take the bait and ask. :)

The answer to this question depends on my mood at least in part. Certainly every character I've written, from Rigel Bismarck to Redik, borrows something from my own personality so if I am feeling particularly funny, that lends itself to enjoyment writing Hob. Conversely, if I find myself in a smirking, sarcastic, seductive demeanor, Redik is fun.

The flip side to this coin, though, is that I enjoy the ability to tell a breadth of stories around a given character. Part of the reason that I always felt very attached to both Pierce and Hob is that they always strove to be something more than what they were and it defined them. That endless quest offers so much in the way of material, I almost felt like I couldn't go wrong with a story idea using one of them. I think in my mind's eye, I'd still like to revisit the notion of Pierce as a husband and a dad and finding that suddenly, it matters if he dies in his quest to bring justice to a galaxy gone chaotic.

There's more answer to this question, but it requires me to analyze who each character is and I try not to do that for fear I lose the mystery about them. :)

Very kind of you to say. What is it you liked/thought about Redik? I always had a bit of a hard time putting myself in the position of seeing him from the outside in, so I never quite figured out what people perceived him as.

Awesome!! Definitely want in on that defection action. I miss reading your stuff, man. Get the hell back in here and write. :shootin
