View Full Version : Ask/Tell me about my characters

A blatant rip off of Christin's thread, but we were talking about the idea on AIM so I'd say it was both of our idea at the same time.

Ask me about my characters, past and present, or even future plans (I may not tell you the answers regarding the future, but you can ask!). Anything confusing you that I've written or need clarifying?

Also feel free to tell me stuff about my writing and characters as well.

Asking/Telling not limited to Star Wars characters. An incomplete list is below:

Lilaena De'Ville
James Prent
Serena Laran
Bette Davis
Sasseeri Reeouurraa
A'na Eldhil
Jane Starborn

edit: and because some people didn't know I played them until recently -

What exactly is Jane's rank, apart from Agent? I'm always cautious to speculate on that.

I'm curious how much of Sasseeri's younger years you've got mapped out in your head. What kind of synopsis do you have for her formative years in the Pride?

Jane Starborn

Jane is a Senior Operative, as per the rank Jenny gave her in the list of Intel agents. I believe that comes down to 'no official military rank' as she is not in the military, she is working for Intelligence. Like people who work for the CIA aren't lieutenants or ensigns or seamen, they are operatives or agents.

Unless they are, in which case I retract that part of my answer. :ohno

Senior Operative Jane Starborn - not to be confused with Operative Dashiel Starborn, her cousin.

Sasseeri Reeouurra

I don't have much fleshed out about Sasseeri, which is probably a bad thing. What I do have:

Born to a human servant serving the Meorrrei household, fathered by Laanidaarro Meorrrei during one of his yearly kree-arr, and was given his family name of Reeouurra
Is the biological half-sister of Taataani
Was kept on in the household but mostly lived in the servants area and did not take part in normal family stuff with the other kids. She was not One Of Them, she was the servant's kid and a halfbreed.
I figure the other Meorrrei children made fun of her and bullied her quite a bit.
She went to school where again, more bullying and meanness happened to her, but it made her strong and determined to get out of the Cluster
Which she did when she was of age, and never looked back.
Sass worked her way up in the casino business, determined to make it big and 'show them' back at home that a halfbreed could have a good nose for business and make tons of money and be successful
and she turned to Black Sun to further her career and was good at it and so here we are.:cat

Any plans on a James & Sanis tearful reunion? ;)

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 20th, 2010, 12:35:58 AM
Tearful? :lol If its with James, these days it seems she's always crying, so yes? Except she'd probably punch him in the face, too.

I can see a reunion with Saa holding a gun on them both though, complete with villain monologue and crazy eyes. >D But no, no plans as of right now, as you well now. :p

Actually, save that thought for later. It might be awesome!

Especially if Byl gets all crazy at having James captured and gets a touch of his old ruthless self in getting her (and Sanis I guess) back.

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 20th, 2010, 12:55:28 AM
:lol Byl is like "oh I GUESS you can come along too but you better keep up" to Sanis, and secretly hopes he falls behind.

Yeah, this was just me making stuff up since I couldn't find a conclusive answer on Wookieepedia ;) So the hiarchy goes Operative, Senior Operative, Sub-Director, Director.

I'm bit confused on how LD took the mantel of Mand'alor? By old Mandalorian tradition the title was passed down to those who posed the mask of Mandolore the Indomitable. However sometime after Revan stole the mask the title went by succession. In order to take leadership you had to be a member of one of the many groups. Also from what I can remember most mandalorians respected a Jedi/siths fighting but where never allowed into the groups because of Exar Kun until Boba Fett allowed Jana Solo to be apart of his new Mandalorians in EU.

So what I'm wondering is she Mandalorian or did she retrieve the mask because it would still be significant Mandos?

By old Mandalorian tradition = was not written when I first conceived of LD becoming Mandalore on Onderon. In fact, pre-reset there were no Mandalorians, because we thought they were all dead.

The short story is, however, the Mandalorians living on Onderon are cut off from the rest of the galaxy and have been for thousands of years (since being stranded on Dxun around the time of Freedon Nadd's death and subsequently migrating down to the planet which is my idea and where we diverge from 'canon'). Therefore they have their own culture which is separate from any other groups of Mandalorians.

LD defeated their Mandalore, and took his helmet and became the new Mandalore of the ones on Onderon.

Something I wrote pre-reset that explains the Mandalorians on Onderon pretty well (from Mortal Gods:The Demon Moon):

Death. That is what this place was, above all things. Onderon was death. Whether it was the death of another or your own, death was a constant facet of life, ironically.

It had been millennia since the Great Defeat. Never before had the Mandalorians tasted such bitter wine. Never again, either. With defeat came eternal consequence. Banishment. The last vestiges of Mandalore's followers had their ranks broken by the guardians of the Jedi Order...and they were thrown to circumstance on the planet of beasts. Onderon was the quintessential Tantalus nightmare. To the zenith of the night sky came the beasts of the Demon Moon. Every night for thousands of years, the followers of Mandalore fought pitched battles against the beastly hordes. Every night, they endured. On the surface and to the north, the walled city of Iziz taunted the followers of Mandalore, like an apple perched on a high branch, beyond the grasp of a starving man. Eternally, it seemed the Mandalorians were doomed to be tormented. Yet, so often history is changed by slow and inexorable things.

Aexar stood alone, in the darkness...away from his brothers-in-arms.

Now, he was more than Aexar. He was now Mandalore. It had happened all too suddenly. On the eve of their greatest victory in recent memory, Aexar and the former Mandalore had reached an impasse over strategy. Mandalore had risen to the crest of the wave of blood by brute strength. Aexar, Mandalore's General, was perhaps lesser in steel, but far greater in wit. Indeed, he had long decided that the old Mandalore's successes against the barbarians of Iziz was due entirely to his cunning alone. Mandalore had ascended to the apex by the tip of a sword, but so often such warriors die by such a sword.

Aexar...Mandalore smiled. He did not hate his dead master. He was simply weaker, and in the end, fate had shown his fate to all. There was no quarrel made upon the old Mandalore's death. In the end, it was the way things had been since memory could serve him. Only the hardest iron survived the forge...and the fire was most fierce at the tip of the spear. No doubt there were many amongst the Mandalorians who eyed him even now, awaiting the day to best him and claim leadership.

But that day would not be today, and his leadership was paramount.

In the darkness, the new Mandalore contemplated his decisions. Soon, his ranks would be prepared for yet another assault against the walls of Iziz, as they had done for hundreds of years. Though the walls remained steadfast, the Mandalorians did not relent. Indeed, each cadre of warriors seemed poised to stand upon the shoulders of their ancestors, and eclipse the very concept of greatness. Though he never turned his back on any of them, Mandalore trusted their skills inherently. Perhaps Jedi steel was harder than Mandalorian 4000 years ago. Now...it seemed absurd to think of such things.

As Mandalore contemplated such things, a bright light in the sky caught his eye, streaking down from the heavens.

Offworlders.

Mandalore scowled. They were fodder. If the beasts did not devour them, if his brothers did not destroy them...then perhaps they were sturdy enough stock to become slaves. Maybe in generations, their progeny could even don the armor of a Mandalorian, though this was an utmost rarity. In the end, every offworlder that Mandalore had seen...had perished.

The warrior donned his helmet, turned away from the spectacle, and blasted off across the sky, his rocket pack creating a trail of afterglow as he accelerated toward his brothers' camp.

An extension on Blade's question -

Given the isolated nature of the Onderon Mandalorians, how are they going to react once Tear and the Imperials start fighting over Mandalore? It sounds like there's going to be a rallying call to Mandalorians across the galaxy: is LDV the kind of person who would respond to that, or is she only concerned with her own Mandalorians?

Would she try and declare herself Mandalore of Mandalore as well... or would she have no desire to enter into their politics?

How did LD get her eye tattoos? What is their significance to her as a character (other than marking her as badass)?

Do you have plans of bringing James to the Wheel?

Who would win in a fight: Serena or LD?

If they hear of it (which they probably won't because of their isolation) the younger ones may want to go off and adventure, because that's what young people want to do. But the whole point of there actually being a group of isolated old school Mando'a on Onderon is that they're stuck there. No way to get off (ha, that's what she said!). Right now though LD left her lieutenant/s in charge of her people as she is off fighting in the Rebellion.

At some point, however, it would be cool to round them up into an ISD or maybe something a little smaller, and go off to fight the Empire. I mean, that's what LD has always wanted to do with them.

So, no, she's not concerned with the other Mandalorians, and hates politics. She would not try to declare herself Mandalore of Mandalore the planet either, unless she thought there was a good chance she'd win out somehow and then get to use them to pound the Empire to death. Everything she has learned of the Mand'oa has been from her 'outdated' clan on Onderon, and I'm not sure what sort of learning curve there is for more recent stuff.

How did LD get her eye tattoos? What is their significance to her as a character (other than marking her as badass)?
They aren't tattoos, its face paint. She wears it when she's feeling especially badass, like when she's being evil and destroying things. Actually post reset she just wears the paint on one side of her face - it covers an old scar that bisects her eye (but didn't blind her or actually damage the eye).

It has to be painted on, because having to cover tattoos every time you want to be discrete is a pain in the ass. ;)

Do you have plans of bringing James to the Wheel?
Not right now. She had a horrible vision of Lok being evil, and now she's afraid to be around Jedi.

Who would win in a fight: Serena or LD?

LD, hands down. Serena is not a slouch when it comes to lightsaber fighting, but LD basically lives and breathes it. I'm sure Serena could find a way to even the playing field, perhaps, but in a straight lightsaber duel, LD wins.

Since Arya grew up on Ryloth, what were some of her favorite things to do (in terms of happy memories)?

Arya Ravenwing
Aug 20th, 2010, 04:57:01 PM
Arya liked to horse around with the other kids in her neighborhood, and was an avid climber. So her happiest memories would be when she was out of her house - the worst ones would be from inside her house with her slowly going crazeeeee momma.

General Question - how do you pick your characters' names?

Tarrick Ragnus
Aug 20th, 2010, 05:36:38 PM
Does Bette Davis really have Betty Davis eyes?

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 20th, 2010, 05:48:48 PM
I don't know how I pick my character names. >_< They are part sudden inspiration, part suggestions of others (LD's last name for example), and a few were handed to me from others who came up with the characters and were leaving (Sasseeri and Saarrreeaa).

Sometimes a name comes first and that forms the character, other times I have a character in mind and then I have to come up with a name to fit them. Its all very fluid and nothing super special.

And to be honest, Bette Davis... In my head I generally pronounce her name Bet, not Betty. :lol I know its Bett-E but I got into the habit while internally reading and now its how I think of her. >_<

Xavier Synik
Aug 20th, 2010, 06:59:16 PM
I always pronouced it Bet, probably because to me Betty should be Betty :p

Okay blame this question on me not reading a lot of threads sometimes, but wasn't De'Ville a force user? Or is she still and now just joining the Rebellion? If it's been RPed I'd love to read it just show me where.

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 20th, 2010, 07:01:47 PM
Lilaena is a former Jedi padawan who was trained by a Dark Jedi, and is now herself a Dark Jedi. Her current master is Darth Callidus, and she is infiltrating the Rebellion to gain insights for her master.

Yes, she is still a Force User, and no, the Rebellion is not going to become aware of the extent of her abilities, just that she is an adept who does not wish to be involved with the Jedi. So, she won't be heading to the Wheel any time soon, if ever. :)

Alternate history time! Imagine Lilaena had been with Serena instead of An'a at the time of the Purge, and give us a short synopsis of what happens to the present.

Serena Laran

Well, if Lilaena had been with Serena, she probably would have been asking Serena a question at a critical moment in history. Distracted, Serena would have been killed by the clone troopers, and so would have Lilaena.

What's the deal with Sassy and Tear? Now that she's back being all Black Sun leader again, are there any lingering "loyalties" to Tear? Does Tear hold any sway of influence over her, or was that just a one-time only thing?

Rev Solomon

What will Serena think about Solomon's faith?

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 21st, 2010, 11:10:54 AM
She'd be accepting. She lived with a people who thought the Force was a god, so Sol's faith in a higher power than the Force would be a refreshing change.

I say she'd be accepting, and she would, eventually. But I think they'd have to talk about it a lot. Many.... late night conversations.

Which of your threads are you most proud of? Which of your threads are you the least proud of? Why on both counts.

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 21st, 2010, 07:02:35 PM
The thread I'm most proud of is probably Destinies: Convergence (http://sw-fans.net/archive/forum/showthread.php?threadid=37125), because its the culmination of a TON of RP work over such a long time. Working with James Prent through all her visions of a terrible future and her figuring out her lineage and past with the help of other awesome RPers like Figrin and Aaron Belargic.... and LD being so damned single minded in her pursuit of getting her son back... the whole Destinies arc was a ton of work and got great contributions from a lot of other good RPers, and I feel really blessed to have been able to push it along as close to completion as I did.

In a way that same RP is my biggest failure too, because it was never finished. In the end, though, there were so many moving parts with the Sith Order showing up, and Pierce and Figrin... it lost inertia and died. So, that's my biggest disappointment in my RP career, never getting to finish that thread.

edit: strangely enough it looks like *I* am the one who let it die too, which is just sad. I think it happened at the same time as the whole Reset thing. Sometimes I wish we didn't reset. :(

I'm not sure there's any RP I'm actually ashamed of. Although maybe I've just blissfully forgotten it.
