View Full Version : Droid question
Arya Ravenwing

Before the reset Arya had a protocol droid, called C-3PO, or Threepio for short. :mneh I had a lot of fun RPing Threepio and I wondered if I could do that again, or would that be considered a terrible breach of 'character useage' protocol?
Now, I would never say that Arya's Threepio is the same droid created by Anakin Skywalker, that would be lunacy, but I want a prissy protocol droid, and I want to call it Threepio or something very similar.
Objections? *braces herself for the uproar* :cry
edit: an example of some of the fun I used to have with the account http://sw-fans.net/archive/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35139

I honestly don't know. Ultimately, Threepio is only part of the name so there's nothing stopping you from having a droid character called D-3PO, for example, but if the character was a prissy protocol droid called C-3PO, I think it's a bit much. Even Charley's usage of the Jedi ghosts makes me a little uncomfortable, even though they're NPCs, to the extent that I couldn't bring myself to refer to them by their names in my own posts. So perhaps I'm somewhat oversensitive on the issue and not the best person to ask.
At the end of the day, there's all kinds of combinations of numbers and letters to choose from to make an interesting droid name. Consequently, I don't see any real reason to fall back on the name of a character that has appeared in all the of the Star Wars films.

Personally I try to screw with the naming conventions on droids. Half the fun of Star Wars fanfic is to pay homage to the movies with references and similar characters. I made up a wiseass astromech and called it R2-D9, which wasn't all that inspired, but I made sure to refer to him with the nickname Dee-nine just in case to make him at seem like less of a knockoff. :)
It might cause confusion if a new person were to come in and think that Threepio is around when the setting makes a big deal of establishing that all the movie characters are dead.

You might make him a different color and refer to that every so often, like a copper or silver protocol droid.
I have a black astromech named R2-6E (Are Too Sexy)

Don't forget that a near-identical protocol droid in Phantom Menace was called TC-14 - so there's extra flexibility in the name beyond just "?-3PO".

All right, fine, I'll change the name of the droid. But it won't have the same ring to it. :cry
T-2PO...? Sort of makes it sound like he could be a killer robot from the future. ;)

How about 9-T9R and call him something like Niner.

I made a security droid, J8-K33... Jake. Of course then again, in reference to TC-14, I called out to "TC" and two droids in the room responded to it. There are limitless possibilities.
I see 2PO, and I think Tucco? Tupac? :D

Tupac? I am fluent in over six million forms of communication, including Twi'lek lekku sign language and the songs of the great whales of Naboo, and I'm afraid I do not know what this word means.
Oh dear. Its time for an upgrade, isn't it?

"Tupio" works. That's how I'd pronounce that name, I mean. I like it, actually.

We walk a pretty fine line where canon is concerned, given the number of canon characters relatives/apprentices/etc that we have flying around the galaxy.
Twopio is fine by me.
