Cord Avery

She stood at attention eye's straight forward as the Sergeant paced around her. Her eye's had no flicker of emotion and her facial expression didn't change as the Sergeant came up in front of her. He stood there for moment his facial expressions giving away that he was trying to choose his words carefully.

"Do you know why you have been brought before me?"

"No, sur."

The Sergeant looked over at the two men that had brought the woman before him.

"You didn't tell her?"

The two men didn't say anything knowing that if they answered they would be in more trouble than they already where.

"Tell me your name and rank."

"Muh nam is co' Avery, sur. Muh rank is privute furst class, sur!"

"Well P.F.C Avery..." The Sergeant began to pace back and forth. "This is a training camp; do you know what that is?"

"Yus, sur!"

The Sergeant got up in her face that moment. "You are mistaken because you seem to think this is your own personal fighting arena!" Spit came from his mouth as he yelled landing in Avery's face, her expression did not change. "With how many men I have in the infirmary because of you, how the hell do you expect the rebellion to win this war?"

"If ya uxpect these men tuh foyght a wuh, then ya bettah uxpect tuh have injuries evun cusualties, sur!" There was no sympathy or remorse on her face for her actions.

"I did not say you could speak P.F.C Avery!" Cord noted the man’s lip curled up slightly when he became angry. "The war is not here it is out there!" The Sergeant pointed up at the sky. "Here you will do your best not to injure my men or I will injure you, do you understand?"

"Ya can try, sur!"

"What was that Avery?"

"Yus, sur!"

"Dismissed I hope I don't have to see you in my tent again."

The look on the Sergeants face was bordering on rage but it didn't even seem to bother the white haired woman. Her silver eyes were still dead not showing an ounce of fear. She spun on her heels and marched out of the Sergeant Command tent.

She continued on her way to the mess, a few people said there hello or good day's as they passed by her, she said nothing. When she reached the mess tent she marched to the front of line pushing the man in front out of her way, he yelled something at her but she wasn't listening. She grabbed her rations and then went to sit down at the nearest empty table.

No one said anything to her as she found an empty table. By now most of the people in the camp knew just how cold she was. She was every bit the loner always sitting by herself, only speaking when spoken too. Even then she only answered half the time unless you where a superior.

She looked down at her rations which supported all the basic food groups. Like always she would eat them one at time in order from most important food group to least. She would not take a drink until the food was finished. Anyone who took notice she would not deviate from this pattern it was always the same.

A tray clattered onto the table opposite Cord Avery, as someone sat down with all the grace of a sack of potatoes. Sergeant Barrakis did not acknowledge the private, did not offer any greetings, but instead began shovelling forkfuls of some colourless, tasteless paste into his mouth. Since arriving at the training camp, which was based on the plains of Bothawui, far from the busy streets of Drev'starn, Titus had uttered few words that were not commands. He was visiting on behalf of the Fighting Fifth's 1<sup>st</sup> Regiment, in search of young military talent that could be moulded into the image of the famed SpaceOps Marines. So far the trip was largely a washout, but he was determined to go back to Colonel Starborn with at least one candidate.

“A table's a table,” Titus grunted, his eyes briefly flicking up to the blonde before returning to some nondescript point on the table itself. He had no desire for conversation. He had chosen the table purely on the basis that there was an empty seat and that the only other person occupying said table looked about as inhospitable as the Dune Sea. She wouldn't talk, and he didn't want to talk, so the arrangement should have been working well.

Cord said nothing after that point going back to her food. She began eating in the order she had left off from until it was all gone. It only took a few minutes for her to eat it all. After it was all finished she picked up her water and downed it all. Never deviating from he pattern of don't take a drink until the food was gone.

She was used to the imperial training regiment of only have ten minutes to eat ones food. Never any longer then that, she had a hard time understanding why some of these rebels thought it was best to slow down and hold conversation. What was even worse was allot of them in this camp barely knew anything. A lot of them green in the tactics of war, it was no wonder the rebel's where making barely any head way.

She got up from the table quickly dispensing of her tray and glass. As she stepped out of the mess tent she looked up at the sun for moment. Time to head to targeting range hopefully today she wouldn't have tell someone that there weapon wasn't malfunctioning, they just needed to turn the safety off.
