Operation (we need a name)

The Empire demands complete control of resources near the frontlines for the war effort. (Politicians, and Military Leaders get involved)
First Wave: Imperials arrive to relieve current garrison and deploy troops to every platform planet wide to seize control. (Imperials wrestle control of the planet from Independent operators)
CC's current garrison of Imperials start to panic what with being corrupt and all. (ISB routes out traitors and stumbles upon documentation regarding Force-users. Inquisitors arrive.)
Imperial convoys arrive in system carrying equipment and resources to construct a Javin-type station (rename station type, same local manufacturers of actual Javin station)
Fresh academy FNG, long standing officers, and newly assembled ships of the line arrive to form the fleet which will conduct further operations in the area. (Absorbing the first wave of course)
The Empire gets a new centralized focus for PCs to interact. That about right?

I knew I should have tagged this NSP. To late now though. This thread or some such brief will eventually be placed in the hidden forum just to note

Okay...

The Winds of Change Campaign
- Operation Windstorm
(First Wave - The Taking of Cloud City)

- Operation Blowhard
(Instating Imperial Governance)

- Operation Thundercloud
(Dealing with any resistance to the building of an orbital station, and the Empire in general)

- Operation Sunray ***alternatively: Operation Funshine
(Finalizing the orbital station and new fleet arrivals)

...... and that's all I have to say about that.

Is it not worth just jumping in at the deep end, and starting out with the station "nearing completion", and that sort of thing? There's no enemy to fight; no battle to wage; we're just increasing the fortification of a planet that technically, we sort of control already.

Diving straight in will let us get to the meaty part of the storytelling; we can always tangle in the Inquisitorious part of things as well. Just... you know. Lets actually do this thing, rather than worrying about the preamble. From what we saw with the Wheel, this kind of set-up thing can really drag out if we're not careful.

Re the titles:

Since we're sort of in a nebula, perhaps "Operation Thundercloud" is a catch-all term for the policing stuff that's going on in the area, long-term, whereas "Operation Windstorm" is specifically the Bespin / Cloud City / building the station aspect of it?

Heck, we could even call the space station Windstorm Station, as a direct reference to that.

If the campaign of taking the city over is going to take very long at all, I suggest we move forward and set things up so we can start doing threads in and around the city during its occupation.

Ideally, I think we could do a thread on the order of Post Script: The Battle of Endor (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=12585). We have fleeters, pilots, and ground troops involved. Let's jump right into the action, and we can have a few concurrently-running storylines all moving toward the same established goals (what Travis has just outlined).

Above all, while I know there's interest in exploring the details of the takeover, I don't think we all need to wait for all those details to be RPed out before we start using Cloud City the way we've intended. Otherwise, the payoff's going to be delayed so long I'm afraid we'll lose the interest we've built, and the whole thing will dissolve.

EDIT: Captain ninja'd me...

I agree with Cap. Why not just have a load of PCs start roleplaying as if the brunt of the operation has passed, there's still potential for things to get a bit hairy from time to time, but soon enough absolutel Imperial control would be established - presumably coinciding with the completion of the station.

Edit: And now I need to think up a few spiffy Imp characters!

Just to clarify - for the sake of my own confusion - who is doing what:

Space Forces
The space forces are led by (Rear?) Admiral Travis North. They consist of a space station in orbit of Bespin, and around a dozen(?) Star Destroyers: including three commanded by Captain Tarrick Ragnus; and the Termagant, home of Shadow (and Hellfire?) Squadron(s).

Cloud City
The city is governed by the Baroness Administrator, Sanya Tagge. There is an garrison of Imperial Army troops based there, led by Captain Hurst Falco; and a small contingent of Inquisitors, who are investigating the city for clues about the Jedi that hid there. The Cululus Casino caters for the wealthy and civilized; meanwhile, Holiday Towers - and in particular the Ison Lounge - is run by Arriana Rezner, caters for individuals earning a more typical Imperial income, and is a popular haunt with infantry and starfighter pilots alike.

Is that everyone? Surely we had more people weighing in than that... or were they all Shadow Squadron pilots in disguise? :huh

Jakys Sei'trem
Jul 16th, 2010, 08:35:32 PM
There is an Inquisitorial outpost there as well. Normally it was just a squad or two of soldiers, a few desk-lackeys with an agent overseeing the operation. Of course with discovering Serena there one of the younger Inquisitors may be posted there to investigate.

Captain Kellison of the Termagant is the one who disbanded the Shadows. Though has the Termagant been absorbed into Ragnus's battle group? That would be some nice schadenfreude for the Shadows (admittedly directed toward a character who is no longer being played).

As awesome as having both squadrons aboard the Admonisher would be, I don't think it would work out to well. The Shadows would probably out class them in every engagement and the nugs would probably get in the way, or even learn less than if they were flying under Bette alone. That said I'm not the players.

I was wanting to keep the Termagant around because it's an icon of the Empire, and an ImpStar Duece... It never hurts to have them around. Plus I uh kinda scooped it under my command along with Captain Ragnus' forces anyway.

I think it depends on how the squadrons break down on said Impstar, and how those fighters get used.

Just looking at the Defender: when you've got it flying head-on at an enemy squadron, it looses most of its advantages. Speed doesn't matter. Rebel ships usually have shields and missiles too. It becomes a game of missile barrage vs. missile barrage, which is not only tactically problematic, but relatively boring to write.

Throw in the rest of the TIE's fighter wing first however, and it becomes a different story. Sure, you may loose a some of those initial fighters, but they'll break up the enemy formation. Once that happens, the superior speed and abilities come into play, and they can chase those Rebel ships until destruction.

Having the Hellfires performing that "interceptor" type role gives them a part to play that requires less responsibility and skill (they're cannon fodder, basically), but also benefits the Shadows. And, it gives the Shadows and Hellfires two very different roles to perform, which could provide more interest if anyone is writing both a Shadow and a Hellfire; not to mention more variety in the posts we'll all be reading / writing. :)

A few things just to note:

The Admonisher group, Ragnus and the Pilots, should be the first to arrive. They'll have already received Travis' orders to proceed there from Kuat and begin to claim the assets at Bespin.

Shortly afterwards Travis' fleet from Sluis Van will begin to arrive escorting the first batch of heavy freighters carrying station building kit.

The unfortunate problem with coloured text is that, with everyone viewing on a different forum skin, it's hard to know which colours will show up best against what background. That green at the moment is reasonably clear against the Galactic Empire one, but a bit difficult on the Coruscant Night one, for example. To make your life easier picking the colour, would it be easier to move it to the Cloud City boards? At least that way, you've only got one background colour to contend with? :huh

Thanks for the easy-to-understand "one year after" timeline though - makes it easy for me to work out how long it's been for Ceto, too. :lol

It's open, Sanya can make her move any time. I'm just presenting the military side of things as they unfold.

I guess the timeline is gonna be pretty fluid for this - spread out over several weeks, rather than happening close together, etc?

Ceto's arrival is an indeterminate lump of time after Sanya and Falco arrive; if their arrivals are included or referenced over the course of the thread, and you wanna include / reference / etc Ceto's arrival from the start of this (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21044) post, that's fine by me.

For pilots it boils down to shooting down any cloud speeder, freighter, or other vessel that doesn't yield to Imperial authority. Pretty well the Imperial variant of that level from the original Rogue Squadron game.

Da Plan

Admonisher Task Force arrives in the Bespin System
Fighter Squadrons are deployed to intercept any ship attempting to leave the system.
Fighters disable any freighter carrying illicit goods and Tibanna Gas. The disabled freighters will be boarded by strormtrooper transports and piloted to the staging area in Bespin's orbit.
Admonisher enters close orbit over Cloud City
Fighters re-arm and re-fit before being deployed into the atmoshpere to escort more transports which are to secure the Tibanna gas platforms.
During the escort any hostile targets are to be forced into surrendering or be destroyed.
As the take over of Bespin is underway Travis' fleet arrives and the base construction of the massive Imperial station begins.
Pilots return to Admonisher and are given temporary leave to explore a Cloud City under martial law.
Sanya takes over the administration.
Travis meets with Captain Tarrick Ragnus aboard the Admonisher to discuss further orders.
