B) The USSR is even more fragmented than before, with China owning the eastern half of what is currently the Russian Federation. Oh, and China additionally owns Taiwan as well. Along with most of SE Asia Mainland.

C) Either way, probably about 50 million more people would have died in the 20th century than historical from wars and conflicts.

It was too late three weeks ago. The oil you mention was known to exist, just deep down and that was as said, three weeks ago. Now add 50,000 barrels a day on top of that....

Even if the top kill works, there's an oil spill 15 times the size of Exxon Valdez that will take months to wash up. And that's the problem - oil spills are not an instant disaster, they take months or in the case of Exxon Valdez yars to fully unfold. The damage that is yet to happen was caused by oil spilled weeks ago so Lord knows what the additioanl crude is going to do.

93L has ramped up into Tropical Depression#1, which will probably be ramped up further into Tropical Storm Alex by 11PM tonight. Looking for some possible rapid intensification before this system hits the Yucatan Sunday morning. After that models predict it'll reform and head into the Central/Western Gulf by mid next week.

Invest 95L has now moved inland near Lake Charles, LA. There was a bit of controversy associated with the system, as it was well formed and sustained winds of Tropical Storm force were reported from the affected areas. Although it was written down now as going inland as a Tropical Wave, it is highly likely that in the season review, it will be upgraded to at least a Tropical Depression, if not an unnamed Tropical Storm.

In other hurricane news, Invest 96L is emerging from the Yucatan into the southern gulf. The system seems to be getting much better organized, so people in Texas and Mexico should be on the watch for this system.
