...yup. :p
Some interesting things happening so far. Kinda bummed at some of the pairings since either - a. I wouldn't mind seeing either time go farther (Buffalo and Boston are a good example of this one) or... b. - I'd rather both teams got knocked out real quick. rofl. (I'll be nice and keep silent on this ;) ...mostly.)
I do get to see game 4 of Kings/Vancouver in person though. Uber late bday gift to the boy.
So far I think I'd love to see the Coyotes just go insane and take the West... but I'll settle for them knocking out Detroit. :lol Though not sure what'll happen there thanks to last night's game. Same goes for the Avalanche really.
mmm... Red Wings and Sharks knocked out in the first round... a girl can dream right? :3

I'm rooting for the Dallas Stars (to have a new owner by next season. And a new coach.)
Outside of that...a Chicago/Washington final would be cool.

I'm wondering why I picked a western conference team to support, since it means I have to stay up until 3am to watch any of their games, and 5am for some of these playoff matches.

I don't follow the NHL much during the regular season, but, as usual, now that the playoffs are on, I'll be watching whenever I'm able!
It's the same way with NCAA basketball for me. The regular season doesn't interest me at all, but the added intensity in the tournament makes it a must-see.
Obviously, I'll be pulling for the Penguins as hard as I can. :D

lol... oops?
I've been noticing Versus has been having some graphical errors throughout this entire thing. I actually had about a 3 second time span last night where they tossed up the big template that shows the "safe" zones for text and such. Laughed myself silly.

Apr 19th, 2010, 12:03:58 PM
Haha :D I get the impression that Versus kinda sucks?
I have been watching with ESPN Centre Ice, still hoping that some of the Nucks/Kings games will be Nucks feeds... so sick of Fox Sports West already.

I think because it's ESPN's Centre Ice your stuck with whoever the American feed is coming from.
Only other option is CBC for the 'nucks game and doubt that ESPN would be carrying that.

While I'll admit that the Nucks PK sucked after the first period (when we were totally dominating the Kings with some awesome physical play), I'm still ticked that they disallowed the goal that went in off Daniel Sedin's skate. Distinct kicking motion my ass.
Another really exciting game though. Here's hoping they even the series up tonight (...Sarah, give the Nucks a little cheer from me? :D)

Aha. I was hoping maybe they'd alternate, but I guess not. I watched one of the Versus feeds a couple of nights ago - is it just me, or do they seem to constantly have huge graphics obscuring parts of the game? Although I appreciate that they are trying to keep you up to date on other playoff matches, I can happily find out what's going on in those after the game I'm watching is over, instead of having a third of the ice underneath a giant Versus news ticker.

Philly with the 1st round upset.
Only an upset given the rankings... The Leafs would have had a chance at beating the Devils...
Marty's not the same Marty of a couple years ago, and their high priced forwards can't put the puck in the back of the net.
You have to wonder if it's time to change the philosophy in Jersey. The defensive game they play is not working any more.

I looked at the Devils as a team that was either gonna lose in the first round, or maybe make the Finals. Broduer actually had one of his better regular seasons this year. The Flyers were a bad matchup for them(as evidenced by their regular seasons dominace of the Devils as well). I'm sure they were crushed when they watched Philly win the shootout over the Rangers in the regular season finale.

Hey, I really don't give a crap about either the Avalanche or the Sharks. But I was starting to feel bad for SJ after all the early round losses they've had the last few years after great regular seasons. I mean they won the Presidents Trophy last year and were out in the first round.

If it wasn't for Heatley being on the Sharks I wouldn't care about them... but I have no time for guys who pull the shit he did on Ottawa (yes even if it was Ottawa), so just for him I hope they don't make it to the finals.
kinda hoping the 'yotes can knock of the red wings... 1) It's the wings... 2) I'd love to see what kind of reaction it gets. Been hearing some things in the sports media up here that some owners and GMs aren't too happy with the fact that a league run team went out and added salary at the deadline.
Personally I don't care... I think it's funny the lengths the NHL is going to save PHX... especially when there are at least 3 if not 5 other teams that are in as much trouble financially as PHX and it only being a matter of time before it becomes more widely known.

As for the teams over here in the West. Yeahhhhh... I can actually empathize with you over Crosby, since, for much of the American sports media, he is the only hockey player. I suspect it's as bad as the height of the Tom Brady worship, though not as bad as the Tony Romo worship, because at least Brady and Crosby have the credentials.
But, of course, I love the Pens and hate the Caps, so that's where my empathy ends. ;)

More than one of those penalties could have been avoided as well. That's what was frustrating me the most, when the other team is consistently scoring on the power play so what do we do... oh we give them a power play, or a 5-on-3 :headache

Good game overall...but seriously... the ending was just kinda... "Huh? Oh." Was odd when only Kane knew the goal was scored there for a bit. My roomie (who is a goalie) basically said The Flyer's goalie probably hated himself at that moment since the goal was pretty soft. Nice angle on Kane's part but the goalie should have had it.
Either way... Chicago gets its moment. Which I figured they had completely jinxed themselves when they painted a seriously ugly giant mural of Toews with the cup on the side of a building... before the playoffs even started.
I guess whitewashing the damn thing did the trick, though.
So... how many other cities will do ugly paintings of their team's captain with the cup and then cover them up before the playoffs start next year? :lol

As a Pens fan, I was naturally rooting against our hated division rivals. And, honestly, I was glad to see Marion Hossa finally win one! Yeah, I was hacked off that he left Pittsburgh for Detroit, but he got the best comeuppance a Pens fan could hope for, so I have no ill will toward him anymore, and if he'd lost his third Stanley Cup finals series in a row, people would start to say he's jinxed.
Both teams put on a great series, and that was a fantastic Game 7. Flyers fans should feel proud of their team. As for the final goal, it was a little bizarre in the delayed reaction, but I don't think it's any harder to swallow than any other overtime championship loss. I think the tension in hockey's brand of sudden death is higher than any other team sport. You can watch your goalie turn away fifty shots, your heart in your throat each time, and the one that goes in doesn't necessarily look any different until you see the puck in the back of the net. Football and basketball are games of seconds and inches; hockey is a game of nanoseconds and milimeters.
I can only imagine how heart-rending it must be to be cheering your team on in your home arena one moment and then suddenly seeing the other guys celebrating the next. The chant of "Let's go Flyers!" moments after the winning goal was a brilliant display of loyalty and gratitude, and it gave me a new level of respect for Flyers fans and for hockey fans worldwide.

Most Thrilling Playoffs In Recent Memory Unfortunately Happen In Hockey
PHILADELPHIA—The most riveting, nail-biting, and story-laden playoff series in the past several years of professional sports had the misfortune of reaching its amazing overtime finish in the sport of hockey Wednesday night, as the Blackhawks defeated the Flyers to win the NHL's championship series 4-2. "To see a team that was 14th out of 15 teams in its conference a few months ago not only make the playoffs, but advance to the final by coming back from three games down, was really a shame," said ESPN's Bill Simmons, who spent the evening preparing for Thursday's Lakers-Celtics game and did not watch the hockey finals. "And when the barnstorming Chicago team hoisted that trophy, ending its championship drought with an overtime win on the road, I felt sick to my stomach that it wasn't the Cubs and the World Series trophy." The NHL playoffs also saw Montreal goalie Jaroslav Halak stop 131 of 134 scoring attempts over three games in a superhuman defensive effort that was tragically not put forth by the Baltimore Ravens.
